Surgery for Mali

Well there goes the season. Anyone saying different is just coping.
I’ve seen this offense without Toney and it is not very good.
Add in this crappy pass defense and it’s a wrap.
Hopefully we get a decent QB and make a run next year.

I know ND will be a bigger challenge than UNC, but UNC’s defense isn’t terrible and:

9 plays 75 yards, TD — Mali wasn’t targeted once
8 plays, 67 yards, FG - 1 target for Mali, 0 catches
8 plays 80 yards, TD - Mali had 0 catches (1 run for 11)
6 plays 37 yards, TD - Mali had 1 catch, a 9 yard TD

So it’s not like this team is incapable of scoring points unless he scores them. Nobody is saying the offense is as good, that’s absurd. But we scored 24 points on UNC and in those 4 scoring drives, Mali caught 1 pass and had 1 run.

We can still score points on these dudes. If I’m Ash, I’m loading the box and making Mensah beat me without Mali. And if I’m Dawson, I’m looking at that and smiling. Get the backs involved in the throw game. Maybe this is a Pringle game where we can get him on linebackers. Get Lofton more involved on misdirection and get him slipped into the flats. Put Spafford and Jacobs on the field at the same time and run some verticals and see if they can run by somebody. We got plenty of playmakers and an experienced, poised, accurate QB who can get them the ball.

Your a bright guy😉💪🏾👊🏾
This is a Pringle game 2 back sets
He’s tailor made for this week now with Mali out…

I’m expecting big thangs from Mr.Pringle in the screen game until Mali comes back….big things

Yea no way he comes back this year at all . How he plays and cuts don’t wanna risk longterm injury .

Assuming it’s a traditional tightrope and nothing extra is going on, and we make the playoffs, I’d be shocked if he doesn’t play. Shocked shocked. Again, assuming this thing is clean, if we’re playing football in late January, he will be out there.

Yes but on all those drives that Toney didn’t have a catch, he was still occupying 2 defenders. I’m afraid our WR’s won’t be as “open” without Toney on the field and our RB’s will face an extra man in the box.

Let’s all accept the facts that no college team is nearly as good without its best player. Can UM still win, sure. Have the odds dramatically changed, yes.

2 years from now with the recruits Mario is bringing in and a loss like this maybe less impactful. But we aren’t replacing Toney this season with a 5 star. Think of the Pitt game. Does anyone other WR on this roster break the tackles on the screen and score? No. Does any other WR throw the 2 point conversion to Barkate against FSU? No.

UM is still very good, but it is also a far less talented team without Toney. And our defense does not seem capable of picking up the slack considering the injuries on that side. We need more talent to absorb these losses and we don’t have it right now.

Now all of a sudden Wingo, Spafford,, Upshaw, and Barkate are trash but when they all signed you ****** tried to convince the world that we got dawgs and dudes.

I’m surprised D$ doesn’t have bipolar meds as a CIS sponsor
I’m curious to see how they incorporate Wingo , that kid is super talented

I get the point of this post but him being out there on the field as a REAL threat(not that wake forest decoy bs) opens up the field for other players to thrive because the opposing D has to pay so much attention to where he is on the field. It will be a challenge but aside from ND I think we have enough talent in the room to hold fort, win the ACC, and have him back healthy for a playoff run ..we can lean back n the run game more with Mallory and Fletch and get creative w/ Lofton the talent is there.

I’m thinking 6 weeks worst case scenario. Pete Thamel says 4 ( he has good sources and people don’t know how to shut their mouth so don’t be surprised if this source is close to situation), based on some research and speculation I think he’s having a procedure that could be 6 in a worst case scenario but usually 4. EVEN IF 6 that puts Toney back by first round CFP if we don’t get bye. So let’s try to escape Saturday and take care of ACC business. We have luxury of being undefeated and some wiggle room.

Are we sure this ND offense is that good? Who is their best win this year? UNC or Wisc? ****, they lost to the only 2 real teams they played last year (Miami & aTm), which is why they missed the playoffs. Then they lost to byu this year. They are untested.

Last year, it was a lack of playmakers on the outside. Who have they played this year that makes you think those same guys are any good? Can they take advantage of our secondary? Maybe. But maybe not.

All you guys saying the season is over need to man the **** up. There is dudes on our roster. Miami is 100% capable of winning this game.

Mensah Heisman coming out party this weekend.

Kinda sounds like if he could theoretically take the week off and then play the remainder of the season at less than 100%, but it would carry the risk of a much more serious injury. And even if he doesn’t hurt it again , he will still be playing through pain.

This is more preventive maintenance. Have the procedure now, come back with a fully healed ankle potentially for the ACC championship game. Miami isn’t going to make a deep run in the playoffs with Toney playing on one good leg. When Toney is at 100% the offense is unstoppable. I think surgery is a good decision to set up a run to the national championship. Now the rest of the roster has to step up to buy him time to heal.
