Stop ******* around. We all know Lane is the guy.

Saw this... although he points out UF at the end, he summarizes the Lane dilemma pretty nicely...

Josh is usually pretty thorough in his pre-season breakdowns... but he lost me last night saying Mario won't come to Miami and Oregon is the better job because they have private jets.

When you have to fly several hours to even be in the vicinity of a D1 player - solid argument. I'm not sure why having a fleet of private jets is even needed at Miami. Get the man a chopper to drop down on the 50 at MNW, Booker T, Miami Central, and STA and he's set for life.

I don't know what UM has against Lane. He loves the fishing down here and would come. I watched firsthand him and his strength coach Wilson Love come from Alabama and transform FAU. He brought in a totally new S&C program. Then all of a sudden FAU breaks out a tough stretch that lasted years. Now he took Wilson Love with him to Ole Miss and they're in the top 10. You got to get a successful S&C coach.

Coeds. Weed. If it's an open secret in Palm Beach County, you seriously think that people at UM haven't heard? And you think we will overlook that and hire him anyhow?

In theory, it could happen, but it will require a level of "looking the other way" that UM has been unwilling to indulge for coaches. We are not in the SEC.

Folks, let me add some realism here:
  • Manny and staff buyouts = $5M approx.
  • Mario minimum salary = $7M appor.
  • Mario buyout = $10M
  • New staff salaries = $8-10M
Do you think Miami is going to dish out $30M+ like that? I dont. But I hope I am wrong. I think Kiffin Stoops or similar are more likely.

Please stop.

We were always going to have to pay for bullet points 2 and 4, regardless of Manny's performance, that's not. I'm tired of people adding up all the money as if it is some sort of a one-time "extra expenditure". ****, at this point, if Richt had stayed, we would be paying him close to $7 M, so who ******* cares what Mario's salary would be.

The only "new money" part that you cite is bullet point 3. And that is the new normal in college. Nobody wants to plan to fail, but in this current climate, you certainly need to budget for bullet points 1 and 3.

And Miami is not poor. We have the money. Now we need the will to spend it.

Is Mario really that much of a done deal?

It is not SOLELY based on Mario being a "done deal". But it's shocking that we have so many dopey porsters who do not want to acknowledge SERIOUS red flags with certain coaching candidates. Red flags that are pretty darn close to "disqualifying" (unless Miami joins the SEC next week).

I don’t know anything about Lane personally, just his coaching career. The one red flag I would know of is him supposedly ******* Saban’s daughter lol.

Weed? I knew about the coeds trust me. There's even a photo of him with 2. But I'm really not sure about weed. I can't imagine that could be verified. But seriously, he's a brilliant offensive mind. With Mario you're trying to hit home runs on OC and DC hires. Sounds awfully familiar.

2021 and we are willing to disqualify a person for smoking weed????

Might need to be said about a million more times. We have some real hard-heads on this board.

But you have a have credible poster on this forum saying that Kiffin is an option and some of the decision makers are fans of him and want him. So who do you listen to? People will believe and go with the route that they want personally lol, simple as that.

Exactly!!

I've read everyone's theories on what kind of job they think the UM HC is and I come back to the things you're alluding to regarding local talent.

As long as the school is paying a professional amount to the HC and his staff AND making sure that our student athletes have reasonable facilities, etc., there is no school in the country that can compete with the talent potential that Miami has sitting an easy car ride away from campus.

The more I've thought about this, I truly believe that as long as the UM administration is serious about rebuilding our athletic department (they seem to be), this is a premiere job and worthy of an elite coach.

A good-to-elite coach will have us in the ACCCHGM within 2 years (could be one) and positioned as a serious playoff contender within 3 years. The Coastal and all of the talent down here....? This is a career and empire building job for some HC who is smart enough to see it.

Sure. You can hang onto whatever shred of hope you want. There's a SMALL group of people who would consider him due to his current record. Doesn't mean he will ever get an actual job offer.

Again, I have said it is a very remote possibility, but it will require a "look the other way" decision that I'm not sure will survive a 100-member BOT vote.

I don't give a **** whether some people are "fans of him and want him". When the floor is open for debate...Lane has a lot of red flags. And whether UM can get to the point of sending him a contract...again, I have MAJOR doubts, and the Lane Train Passengers who just want to ignore all of that...well, you do that at your own peril.

But I have to admit, I laughed out loud at the porster who suggested a Background Check Dream (Nightmare?) Team of Kiffin, Briles, and Orgeron.

On the topic - a a litmus test, would Freeze similarly not pass the 100 BOT's vote or is that a different matter?
