Steele, Strong, and our LBS

I’d put him at Mike LB. Too short and stubby to come off the edge. You’ve got to have length these days with spacing and the size of offensive tackles.

Get him off the ball and I think he’d be a stud. Already strong enough to take on blocks in the trenches and shed and make plays. Not sure how far back his injury set him in speed and agility though
I like Davis and initially thought the same thing when we were recruiting him. They did have him playing LB to start his senior season but unfortunately he didn't look good when moved there in my opinion. Ended up moving back to end if I am not mistaken and thats where most if his impact came from. I will say, for an undersized end he anchored against the run very well.

Hoping he just needs to get coached up because I like his motor and physical traits outside of length.

I know some are hopeful, as I am, but we just have to have minimal expectations. ****, I’m hoping Ivey can improve as well (I know, I know, but I hope all the current players improve with a real staff in place 😅).

We can’t get mad at the player too much, they didn’t play themselves. Hoping and trusting the staff gets a portal LB or two, but regardless, for the most part, we have to use who we have and pray they can be serviceable.

There’s some promising talent at linebacker but it’s a huge question mark at MLB. Chase Smith is that guy at WLB. Keontra Smith is best suited for the nickel linebacker spot. I would not be surprised if Wes Bisanthe is our starter by the end of the year. Really depends on if we can find anyone in the portal but I’m not holding out on getting anything more than a short term stop-gap. The rest of the linebackers are a combination of injury prone, poor instincts, or lack of athletic ability. I would prefer to keep Thomas Davis as a reserve pass rush specialist role. Moving him to an off the ball position just takes away what he does best and makes him do a lot of stuff he’s not good at.

All these guys you all think aren't good enough, are too slow, undersized, bad tacklers, and can't read a play must've had really good coaching last year to make such strong statements about their abilities.

Wait a second, that's not true, the coaching sucked. That's why those coaches were not retained.

Looking at a Diaz defense, you should come away with one thing. It was a chaotic mess with players asked to do absurd things. It was a collegiate version of sandlot football.

Guys upfront were asked to just get up the field, create havoc, and **** gap integrity or setting the edge. Do you have any clue how difficult that makes a linebackers job when there's literally holes all over the place for linemen to get down field on a backer or a back to shoot through all those holes.

It was a mess all of it. I'm not writing anyone off because you know what, we don't know what we've got with anyone. You'll see a technically sound team with this staff where people have responsibilities leaving fewer gaps to be exploited. Players won't be free styling out there, but will have places they need to be on every play.

I'm looking forward to it. I've said it before, but a lot of you will be surprised by some of these players. They'll all look better and of they can't play their assignments, they won't play.
You’re talking to like a combined 20 people who know anything about football man

Maybe Flagg sucks, but he led the team in solo and total tackles, was 3rd in sacks (3), and 2nd on the team in picks (1). If he's that bad, it's an indictment of the whole defense.
They just want to bash him man let it go. No he’s not a superstar but he got more stats than the guys they love, with ****ed up coaching. And they think a kid of his cloth is going to get run off.. it’s crazy cause they’re the same hypocrites who say Thad Franklin is any good and Cody brown is gonna get run off but if I remember correctly thads entire recruitment he was afraid of comp and wanted snaps handed to him. And now the rooms even more crowded. They’re just partial to Florida guys or whoever they like here.. is Flagg a world beater? No. But geez pick all the targets not just him

Too many negative ulterior motives to see things realistically and clearly.

He's that bad, and yes it's an indictment of the Diaz Wefense. ... no knock on the kid himself, he's just a G5 not top P5 athlete. Seems like a great person.

There are a ton of holes. The failures on defense last season and the season before were not on Flagg or Jennings alone. They were just the most obvious because of how Shaq managed the middle before them.

I know you're loyal to Texas but you have to admit Flagg would be better off at Houston than Miami. It's not about him per se, it's about him being a starter and expected to lay at a high level against Clemson.

You can just as easily say that about our DEs and our CBs other than Stevenson. It's not about the person but how that person plays the position,

Correct. His film at end was far superior to LB. The fanbase simply projects him at LB due to pur desperation for talent at that position.

I think everyone can admit that UM had a poor scheme and corching under Diazster

But we also need an upgrade in our LB room

both can be true
I honestly don't know. The position was poorly coached and favorites were being played. We will know more after the Spring game based on who plays and how they play. Strong and Steele know what good LB play looks like.

If you see guys leaving to and coming from the Portal at LB, then you know the staff doesn't think we have enough talent at the position.

How football has changed. Mario can look over his roster after the Spring game and then look to the Portal for free agents where he deems necessary.

This is cap because his name is the only one who comes up. Yes he belongs at houston but he’s a running joke on this board and I stand up for my people. That’s what houston does, and I’m not for that bs.. you cannot bs me.

I believe qp is saying what another great yellow thinker, charlie chan, once said:

"Deception is bad game for amateurs."
