Whenever I start to get disappointed in one of our young linemen, I remind myself that we are playing the long game with many of them and that there are only 5 guys who really get snaps on the OL. If we didn't have Cici at RT and Markel the freak at LT, I would be incredibly disappointed in Honcho. I think both Cici and Bell get drafted in the first 3 rounds, maybe higher. Cici of course first round material.Yeah I am. I still think most OL take years to develop and money isn’t changing that. That’s just physical attributes from 18 to 21. I still think it’s fair criticism with the money involved but there’s just reality. If teams invest that kind of money in an OL up front, it’s a massive gamble. Same with QBs. So we have to be determined to pay big money with no returns for years and with a lot of risk. I think he could still be called an interim bust after this year if he doesn’t develop but his story won’t be written in stone until closer to the end of his time in college. I’m also disappointed in Kinsler but the money makes it seem different
I think the real issue is sorting out the compensation for the high school recruits....and good luck with that. However if there was some sort of deferred compensation where they have to hit certain milestones to get paid, maybe it would make a difference, but I also realize that now we are entering contract/lawyer stuff and that is 100% out of my wheelhouse. Had we not overpaid for Honcho, someone else would have.
