Stanton to the Yanks Last Straw for Marlins fans?

They even fired Rich Waltz. Jeter thinks he knows what he's doing. He's clueless. And I'm someone who was OK with trading Stanton. That was a bad contract. But as bad a relationship as the Marlins have had with the fans down here, Jeter has to be wiser than he has been, making a bad looking trade with his old team, and getting rid of a very popular broadcast crew. And trading Ozuna now is just dumb. They can pare payroll down and still try to field a competitive team. I think this will be the end of baseball in South Florida at some point. If they think attendance was bad before wait til the 2018 season starts.

Completely agree with this considering Stanton did have to be traded. We got some very average prospects in return as well. Also Starlin Castro will probably be traded.

This team is going to look nothing like that "rebuilding" team of a rookie Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, Mike Jacobs etc...

Had to get rid of that contract. Previous owner was clown with that contract. Would loved to have kept Stanton but once he signed that deal, there was no way he was staying in Miami. With that said the Marlins will never be a contender. Might as well move to Vegas and let the Canes rebuild the OB.

Never thought I'd say this - I'm good where we play.

No kidding. 5 years ago I'd have loved the idea of building a football stadium at the old OB site. Now, we have the nicest stadium in college football. I'm in no hurry to leave.

It’s absolutely sad that we got more for Dee Gordon than for Giancarlo....at least we got the Mariners 2nd and 7th best prospects.

Yeah I agree. If you make a trade like that to offload Stanton, then you either: A) Make the Yankees take the entire contract without giving up $30,000,000 and get that crap return or B) chip in $30,000,000 to $50,000,000 and get Gleybar Torres and Chance Adams and/or Justus Sheffield. Remarkably awful and reeks of Jeter looking out for his old club. He's just a ball player and not a boss. As a businessman, what I can't seem to figure out is, why Bruce Sherman has allowed a novice like Jeter who has only a minimal investment in the club to call the shots with regards to the business aspect of the organization. Just puzzling....

Cashman would have told Jeter to go ****himself if he wanted those players. Only real team who would take the contract. Marlins fans should be happy that Stanton is gone now you keep Yelich and can trade Osuna for real prospects.

You'd think a MLB team in south Florida would have an easy time. Not sure why all pro sports teams are such disasters

This is South Florida, man. You gots to win if you want us to come out to the game, but make no mistake, the people are rabid about their teams and just as knowledgeable as any of the other beacon sports towns. It just it takes a lot for us to brave traffic and pay outrageous parking fees to go see a team live. If we're gonna do that, you better be putting on a show.

If you're stinking up the joint, we can go to the beach and listen to the game, or to one of the many fine gentlemen club establishments down here and watch it. Other cities don't have the plethora of entertainment options that Miami does.

You are right. Many, like NYC, LA, Vegas, SF, etc. have more and better!

I'd disagree about SF.

NYC and Vegas definitely.

LA is a wash imo (and like the song, I LOVE LA).

Jeter isnt the bad guy here its the previous people are to blame look at all the bad deals that they made.
He cleared alot of money for the Marlins and he wants to get the farm system right he will do goo d things for them for sure just wait.
This guy gets it. Loria gave Stanton that unsustainable contract knowing full well that he was going to stick the next owner with the tab. If you're the Marlins you can't allocate 25% of your payroll to one guy and expect to field a competitive team. Jeter did the right thing by getting that contract off the books.

I don't think any sensible Marlins fan thought that the team could afford Stanton after hemorrhaging money for years. Most accepted that he was going to be traded. The problem is, they basically got nothing for the reigning NL MVP AND gave up $30,000,000 on top of that to move him. They're going to move Starlin Castro as well and those two prospects are throw away pieces. Maybe they don't get Gleybar Torres but you **** well better get Chance Adams and/or Justus Sheffield. Total incompetence by Jeter and company. They're not gonna make any money as owners and they are already broke, hence them begging for additional investors. The purchase of the Marlins by the broke and incompetent Jeter group should have never been allowed by MLB.
The problem is that the Marlins had no leverage. Stanton would only waive his NTC for a few teams and the Yankees were the only team willing to take on that much salary. The Dodgers wanted the Marlins to take back $75 million in bad contracts. Plus if Stanton opts out, the Marlins are off the hook for the $30 million.

Very true the NTC handcuffed the fish badly

I still say Jeter panicked. I would have Inquired with the Cubs and the others on his list. I'm just disgusted with the whole thing. Yankees have one of the best farm systems in the bigs and you walk away with low to mid level prospects. I still don't get why you purchase the team knowing that Stanton and his big contract is there and you have no means of paying for it. Further, Jeter and his clowns need to improve communication. I would have gone to Stanton first and got the list and then tried to craft a deal to my advantage as opposed to getting a tentative deal then having him veto it and now you're scrambling to take the first deal that's offered. Total incompetence.

Yeli is supposed to get the big haul. Asking for 2-3 top tier prospects

They won’t get it.

Yes they will. You’re talking about a 20-20 guy who’s going to hit for .300 and give gold glove caliber Defense who’s under control in a team friendly contract until he’s in his 30’s. Btw he can possibly to into a 25-30 homer guy outside of marlins ballpark...he hit 21 and 18 the last 2 years

Definitely thankful for Ozuna for my Cards.

You’re not going to like who we took from you in 4 years though...

All we got was two decent pitching prospects, and what I consider an over-rated outfield prospect. The other pitcher was a throw in. Not a great haul IMHO. I don't like the outfield prospect at all. Don't care what he was ranked. When a guy hits .290 in the minors and only averages about 30 steals with no power, he isn't a great prospect. The ceiling is Emilio Bonafacio. If either Alcantarra or the pitcher from Chapel Hill end up as number 2 or 3 starters I'll be proven wrong, but that's not a high % bet. Jeter should have held out for better quality for Marcel.

Alcantarra projects as a top of the rotation guy...and Sierra is supposedly a elite defender. You’re looking at a Denard Soan more than a Bonifacio. The guy batted .317 as a September call up

I’m actually surprised they didn’t ask for Johan Oviedo over Gallon in the Ozuna trade. Don’t know how you say no to a 6’6 19 y/o from the Dominican who projects to be in the bigs by 21. You got 2 guys who can play in the lineup/rotation tomorrow in Alcantarra and Sierra, why not take a bit of a risk on that kid instead of a kid like Gallon who at best is going to be an Andrew Cashner-esque pitcher.

I don't pay a ton of attention to numbers from a quick call up. The kid hasn't been elite in term of speed or hitting for average in the minors and has no power. Maybe a plus contact hitter, but without speed or power you have to be a .330 hitter to get me excited. As for Alcantarra, he PROJECTS as a top of the rotation guy. Only 1 in 3 or 4 of those projections work out. Andrew Miller projected as a top of the rotation guy. Now he's the butt of a bad Marlins trade joke. I'm not encouraged by what I see in these trades. But they are re-stocking their farm system. I'm starting to get excited about the Jupiter Hammerheads 2018 season!
