Official Spring PractiSe #4: Tuesday, March 21

Glass half full says we dramatically underperformed last season (plus TVD was injured) and have upgraded this off-season with more to come from the portal in the next 2 -3 months. Not expecting to be natty champs. But can we find a way to get to 8+ wins? That would be a good start.
I'm hoping we can upset either UNC, Texas A&M or NC State to get 8 wins. Even still with that, I think we would have to be lucky with the injury bug this year and get atleast 2 or 3 more impact players in the portal.

I'm right there with you. And the crazy thing is Mauigoa is the more plug-and-play player right now. ... I'm not saying they won't start. Just saying I expect Nelson and Rivers to hold them off in 2023. Or at least I expected that. But if Ghandi is saying Rivers is already being overtaken, then I see that as a very good sign. To surpass a kid whom I believe will play in the NFL and has been a decent producer at Miami when healthy, as true freshman, that's impressive.

@Ghandi thanks for the intel. ... All I want is competition everywhere. Seantrel, Flowers and Donaldson just walked into starting roles as TFs. They performed "okay", but they didn't really deserve to start. It was a lesson that kids need to earn their spot. They need to beat out good players. Rivers and Nelson are good players. So if Maiugoa and Samson beat them out, then they're legit ready.
Pretty sure McCoy got hurt week 1.

You and me both want competing across the position groups.

That way Miami has the best the team can offer on the field.

Can someone point me to the dominant games that Rivers has had at LG? I’ll even take a stretch of series against higher level opponents. People keep posting that he’s elite and he’s not. Cooper has flashes of elite on field production.

FM and Rivers are not the same player.
I do agree that FM is a better overall prospect for sure. Rivers plays like a 4 star maybe the word elite I shouldn't have used. Hes a good guard

Last year he was the best amongst a group of absolute ****. Maybe he could be elite with a better supporting cast but he fit in more than he stood out last year.

Imagine if one came on here between 2003 and 2021 and used 8 wins and good in the same sentence…

Infinitely more resources = lower expectations

🤔….

U know what’s interesting about those who say half full or half empty? Both r right & wrong at the same time; the only answer that is right, is the tangible aspect of that view…that water is in the glass. I don’t care if some thinks it’s half full & others thinks it’s half empty. The only thing I see is water is in the glass; that’s undeniable.

So saying last yr’s team underperformed is undeniable, but I can also say that’s not a glass half full statement. The fact is, pick a year from 2003 (a team that produced the most 1st round picks in a single draft) - present, & find me a Miami team that hasn’t underperformed. U can literally say that about every single team for 20 yrs based upon personnel.

TVD was healthy for the first 6 games, & we were 3-3, including 1-3 against P5 schools. Could it possibly be the reason we’ve been underperforming for the past 20 yrs is b/c that grind, zeal, want has waned? I’m all for kids having a break, but it’s a difference when a program has been established at the heights of dominance, semblance, w/ a winning culture vs. trying to get there. Like, I’m not sure why JJ was brought up when we were thee team in the 80’s, & the culture was well established.

Imo, I would’ve liked for our players to fall back to get extra rep, work time, & study to push for that next level.

Gonna be real hard to convince someone to transfer here to be a backup. Most guys are in the portal for playing time. Same goes for running back.
This is the part most of these guys arent factoring in.
Gutys will be transferring in for a guaranteed spot or a young guy who had issues at his previous place or not starting there maybe wanting to come back home...to south florida.

Ill definately take another OL...but guaranteeing you arent getting a Sogapalu again in the portal at this juncture or after spring is tough...Maybe if they look to the IVY league schools for a transfer depth guy?.

I spose the sell could be that, especially at OL, you're one twisted ankle away from grabbing a starting spot and then it's up to you to keep it. Get em on campus and let them fight for it.
