Spring Practice 4/19 - Early Portion Notes

Another alternative is to move Gauthier permanently to RT - he apparently performed the best out of all of them.

LT - St Louis, Scaife
LG - Jones, Boulware
C - Mahoney, Gaynor
RG - Donaldson, Hillery
RT - Gauthier, Campbell

Was HErbert shoulder issues a much bigger problem than first reported when he was still a recruit?

Donaldson needs to lose weight, period. Even at guard he's a good drive blocker but watching him on sweeps, his footwork and ability to get out in front of the play is limited. Too much talk about his potential, if he wants to fulfill it he will quit blowing up like a balloon.

RIcht said that Donaldson was happy about the move to RT. It's up to him to change his body and become what he's destined to be at 6'6.
Of course he's happy about the move to RT. It's a more glamorous position than G. More potential NFL money there too.

I was expecting to here something from Dykstra this spring...hopefully he isn’t a jag, guess time will tell.

Just a few quick hitters today from the early part of the last day of spring practice with the final scrimmage set for Saturday:

**Cade Weldon returned from his eye infection today. Was throwing with the third team ahead of Jarren Williams.

**Trajan Bandy was ahead of Jhavonte Dean at corner with the 1's along with Mike Jackson.

**OL 1st team: LT St Louis LG Jones C Gauthier RG Mahoney RT Donaldson

**OL 2nd team: LT Brown LG Scaife C Gaynor RG Hillery RT Campbell

**OL 3rd team: Herbert Milo Dykstra

Milo still on the **** team?!? What a waste of a scholly...4* my ****....

Herbert on transfer watch.

Edit: To be clear this isn't any "inside info", but just a recognition that 4* guys that take a shirt and then fail to contribute in year 2 often look for easier paths elsewhere. 3rd team tackle on a team desperate for tackles is not a good place to be.

Offensive linemen take time to physically mature and adapt to the speed/strength of the college game - and most need to learn fundamentals they didn't have in HS.

There's absolutely no reason for a kid to transfer after 2 years at that position.

I'm concerned with Gaynors arm length. Its very important for OLineman to have long arms. Not as important if they're interior, but it's still important. It looks like Gaynors got super short arms.

In the NFL yes, but not in college. Just like in college short CBs can still be studs.

Very rarely do these guys go up against elite talent game after game. Even then, guys with short arms have excelled with good feet or great technique. Billy Price has 32" arms and was great at OSU. Will Hernandez and Braden Smith are both less than 32.5", Mason Cole is 32.25 and Will Clapp from LSU has 31.25, which is really short (got that from Walter so not sure the accuracy). McDermott played tackled for us last year with 32.5"

Last year, Forrest Lamp had incredibly short arms (<31.5), but was viewed as the top guard in the draft.
