Been saying it. It's weird, because I've said on record he will have more sacks than Bain, but he's nowhere near as good of a player overall.

This is a terrible way to do this, but Bain had 30 tackles and 24 assists last year.
Wilson had 9 tackles and 14 assists.
The year before, at UGA, he had 13 tackles and 9 assists.

Now, he had 9 sacks last season in the SEC. That was 3rd in the league, only Colin Simmons and Cashius Howell had more. Dude can get after the passer. But he's rather uninterested in capturing souls in the run game, which is what Bain prided himself on. They're markedly different players.

Can Wilson get double-digit sacks here this year and receive all kinds of national recognition? Absolutely, and I actually think he will. Will he be as effective in the run game as 3 and 4 were on a down to down basis? No. And it's Hetherman and JT's job to 1) Get as much out of him as humanly possible and 2) Understand his limitations and mitigate them. Whether that be schematically or rotationally.

Blount is my guy this year. He won't have the flashy stats that Wilson or Lightfoot will, but he's going to be an impact dude.
You are 100% right with this but my hang up is that you had this as the #1 issue coming outr of spring and it just isnt for me. I think it a concern in relation to us competing for a chip which is the plan but its a secondary concern. To me the top concerns are the OL and the the LBs, which funny enough are linked to your Edge concern. If our OL gives Mensah adequate time, he will light the nation up with our weapons. If thats the case, our DEs will be rushing the pass more often than not as the other team will be playing catch up. In terms of the LBs its time for them to deliver, 3 and 4 certainly covered up warts last year with their stellar play in the run game. This year its up to the LBs to pick up some of that slack. Just as we trust Mario and Mirabal with a new OL, I trust Hetherman to get the LBs right.

I get what you’re saying and saying he’s “nowhere near” Bain isn’t even a slight against Wilson. He can wreck plays as well. Rewatching 3 and 4 from last year it was just superhuman at times, especially since they rarely left the field

With guys like Blount/Wilson…was hoping Lowe etc JT is clearly an incredible coach. So I gotta add that to the mix. Wilson, Blount, Lowe were all right on the same level of Bain when it comes to recruits and maybe even a tick higher

All that said it’s really just trying to find things because now we are talking #6. It’s NIL and every team has big question marks (even the vaunted Notre Dame team fans are dry humping at the moment) I still see us as a team to beat

The reason I personally have it as my #1 concern is because if you can’t stop the run, teams can slow games down and keep your offense off the field. And secondly, because we have Mario and Alex. I’ll be beyond shocked if they don’t put a well above-average product on the field this fall. That’s why it’s below the edge kids for me.

And before anyone comes at me because they think I’m minimizing JT and Hetherman, chill. I’m not. They’re excellent coaches too, but the OL has the body types you need to replicate what you had last year. I can coach Jackson Cantwell to do exactly what Markel Bell did. Doesn’t guarantee it happens right away, but the blueprint is there. I cannot coach Marquise Lightfoot to do what Bain did.

OL, DL, and TEs are my concern. Concern as in how will those units compare to last season. I don’t think they will be alarmingly bad though.
I think we should only be comparing our roster to the rest of college football this year, not how it compares to last year's team

The investment has already been made & this is his last year so you save nothing "getting rid of him" . We should take advantage of every minute he is healthy, because when he is, he's our best db.
The injury that keeps coming back up doesn't have a good track record with a lot of athletes. Everyone should definitely be doing a lot more praying than critiquing here. I feel really bad for the kid

Since it is all sunshine and National Champs around here for the most part, I will post on this one last time until Fall Camp.
You can have the credentialed media focus on how far ahead Cantwell and Congden are for TR FR every single day. They want to keep their credentials. I get it, you can't mention injuries or Lowe's situation. They don't want that text or email about their coverage. Pass blocking across the board is not close to where it needs to be to be a playoff team. On repeat, it's the biggest concern on this team by far. Again, run blocking is really good. You aren't going to hear Mario try to motivate the OL or TE room through the media like he is LB's for a reason. They have all season to become a playoff pass blocking group. Center has to be the biggest focus on this team. I already don't trust RR's pass blocking, but he is not alone by a long shot, to be fair. Now, his backup, Houston we have a problem. That is worse than a 5 alarm fire, by the way.
This is a NC contender everywhere if pass blocking is developed and backup C is critical with a injury prone starter. Critical!

i've been saying this for a long time, in fact since the first day i saw him at physical therapy clinic a few years ago. he is TOO weak and will require a guard to help him

Agree to disagree.

So Mario and co started him over Carpenter in 24 for no reason? Didn't Brockermeyer also need guard help to start the year, and eventually figured it out?

he started the first game v Florida IMO as a reward for a good fall camp.

but you are right, mario and mirabal know more than me and hopefully will figure it out.
I know portal changes things but after 2023 we landed a lot of “trust Mario and Mirabal” OL recruits until we got Cantwell.

Do I trust them? Of course. Just not too sure what it’s going to look like. We’ve had really good luck with injuries on the OL last few years and some of these guys we need this year have been the ones with issues

If I’m putting concerns in tier categories:

S Tier
None

A Tier
Edge Depth

B Tier
Edge Pressure & Containment
OL Depth

C Tier
QB Depth
Run Blocking

D Tier
Special Teams

Edge performance will regress. You have lost potentially 2 first rounders and a nickel who kept a lot of people honest with his ability to blitz and close. OBM has laid it out effectively; it’s not a criticism of who is here, it’s an acknowledgment of the extremely high talent who isn’t.

Watching today’s live show: Meriweather played this spring? Pete and dmoney are saying he participated at some point.

I wasn’t aware of that. Thought he was out all spring

Couple things:

Don't think you start a guy at UF as a 'reward' for being a hard worker; maybe Bethune Cookman, but not at UF (certainly didn't know going in it would be a blowout). I'll trust Mirabal & Mario. 🤞 he stays healthy.

No scoop, but based on history in regard to these type of matters - any thing we get from Lowe, if he's here, would be gravy. Interestingly, one of the potentially rotational DE's, Scroggins, got media run last week.
