So we want major success at a major program.

But then list Cholly Weak and Monkeyboy? I didn't realize going 4-8 in your second season at Texas was considered a job well done......

YES to Dan Mullen, could be Jimmy Pt two. Killer conference, tired of being little brother in the state. Solid record, championship pedigree.
I haven't studied Mullen closely because I've never been that impressed with his results at MSU. I know his OOC schedule every year is beyond horrible, and that's usually how he gets bowl eligible.

Do you have a list of his impressive wins there? I saw them get absolutely excoriated by GT in the bowl game with at least equal, and arguably better, talent. Seems like every time he plays a good team he loses.

Jeremy Foley, who should have very intimate knowledge of Mullen, passed on him and went with McEltooth.

Hopefully, this is just the idiot media taking actual information given to them "UM is looking for a HC with past success" and then using their own pea brains to conjure up the usual list of unsuccessful *****. I doubt anyone from UM is handing out names of actual candidates.

2014 they did beat LSU, A&M, and Auburn to go along with Arky, Kentucky and some directional crap schools. Then lost by 5 to Bammer, beat up Vandy, and then the 2-game skid losing to Ole Miss and GT.

Butch as a fall back option if all else fails? If thats the case, these ****'s better be going after Bellicheck, Saban, Meyer or somebody.

Thanks. I don't think LSU, AM, or Auburn were very good last year. But those are OK wins. Then he had those bad losses. I'm wondering why Foley passed on him after all the success he had as Urb's OC.

Maybe he didn't want Urb's offense anymore? That's essentially what Mullen runs.

They also played GT without their DC ... He'd already accepted the Florida job.

Rumor is, Foley wanted Mullen to be more humble, and that's hard for Mullen to do.

We have to understand that they are doing a full and extensive search and that nothing will be decided for at least a few weeks. (Possibly up to a month)

They are going to send out feelers for anyone interested and then once they have a list of candidates interested in the position, the committee and Korn will narrow it down to finalists and then the finalists will probably be interviewed secretly.

This all takes time and is hard to do in the middle of the season. I appreciate them doing an extensive search... who knows? Maybe a coach at a big time program somewhere has hit a ceiling at their current institution and is intrigued about the potential the program at Miami has.

You never know. If we strike out and dont find any candidates that are high caliber and a good fit for the program then we always have good ole Butch foaming at the mouth to bring the U back to prominence.

This process is a win-win imo because at the worst (which is not bad at all) we "settle" for Butch Davis. But for now, we have to do our due diligence to make sure we arent missing out on an unhappy Les Miles, Mike Gundy or Gary Patterson that would be willing to listen to what we have to offer.

Why did we hire the firm so late after the firing?

I honestly think it was to give coaches time to offer their services. And if we had someone pursue the job who was an automatic yes, they wouldn't even be wasting the money with the search firm.

It suggest to me that none of the names thrown out as being interested are preferred, and they have some specific guys they'll direct the search firm to engage.

That loss to GT you can throw out the window. They had the final four on their mind and then ended the regular season with the loss to Ole Miss, which is a huge rival. They weren't coming out swinging during the bowl game. Those type of losses happen all the time in bowl games when teams have huge let downs.

No thanks on Dan Mullen. Another "Lightening in a bottle" candidate. Has had 1.5 good seasons in 7 years at MSU. I will give it to him that he is basically making something out of nothing with this MSU team this year though.

That committee and the stuff they're leaking is becoming a really funny dance with core fans.

Do you feel like the committee is leaking info on "big names" to hide the fact they're really going after Butch/Mario, or are they leaking info on Butch/Mario to hide the fact they're going after big names???

...I need a scotch.

I wonder if all the Mario stuff is to scare us all so $hitless, that we're happy with whomever they end up hiring, as long as it's not him.

Also, no mention of Herman or Fuente whatsoever. Hmm.

Don't hate Mullen, but he's a meh-candidate. Basically requires a Tim Tebow to produce. His resume is padded with OOC crap. Only twice in his tenure at MSU have they played a P5 opponent OOC, lost both. (Don't feel like delving into the SEC portion, as that is an argument for another time, not necessarily about his performance, but the conference as a whole).

Maybe he could do something with Kaaya, as he has a reputation for being good with QBs, though I'm not 100% sold on that.

Definitely better than any of the crap that is being trotted out so far (Wario, Dud, Strong, Schiano), but below the fan favorites (Fuente, Herman, Butch).

IMO

Nobody knows sh*t at this stage of the game. Typical lets-keep-the fans-glued to computer screen kind of writing.
