While I do think that the big money guys (Miller, Dimare, etc) will get who they want in the end, I also think that Blake wants to give them a chance to officially say "No" to him if a guy like Herman or Strong says they are very interested. Cant do that until first week of December. He wants to make sure he isnt the "fall guy" in this. (which he will be anyway) He knows everyone wants Butch. But at least lets make it interesting.

(I have said I personally think Herman is flattered but is not at all interested. Wasnt there a rumor that UofH is getting ready to offer him a new deal he wont be able to refuse? And as far as Strong, as much as he might want to leave UT, I dont think he will come here for 2-3M less then he is making at UT. Wouldnt make sense. Esp if he believes in his heart that he can really turn it around next year.)

Actually, the more I read and the longer this goes, the less I think it's Butch. Good news is, the less I think it's Mario too...

I wouldn't rule out Butch just yet, although I really don't think it's going to be him. It would be pretty dumb, to waste about 5 weeks when Butch could have already been working, but you can't expect anything else out of UM at this point. We wasted at least a year and a half by not firing Golden. They want it to look like they did their job, looking at every candidate. I do think Butch is there in the end in the last 3-4, but as for Mario, all these better qualified candidates will push him out.

Charlie Strong, Mark Richt, and Greg Schiano would all be great fits. I would be happy with either one of them.

Strong is about to get fired for failing at UT. Failing at UT is almost as bad as failing at THE U-- there is no excuse for it.

Mark is old Cane and nice guy but if we what a guy to lose that one game he must win, then Butch is better choice -- 100 times the recruiter Mark is.

Greg, well what can I say-- he coached at PSU -- I never, ever want another coach who has even driven by PSU. Al forever tainted that pool.

It's worse than failing at Miami. You literally have every built in advantage a college coach could want. Miami is lacking in several of those areas. People will be amazed if a coach can get this program back up on it's feet and competing for titles. Miami has one thing to offer at this point and it's the location of the school as it relates to recruiting. It' biggest selling point (to recruits) is gone. This is going to be a monumental task for whatever coach takes the job. How many coaches out there (worth taking) are really interested in working that hard at Miami? There are more negatives at Miami than just about any other big time program.

I don't disagree except that given the large number of coaches who have taken THE U to NCs, I kind of have to go with Miami is the one place failure means you just suck completely and might never get another D1 HC job. If you fish for largemouth bass in TN, you might never catch one over 10lbs and still be considered a good fisherman. If you fish in FL, you better have one on the wall or say you don't really take bass fishing serious. Texas has a lot of talent in a huge state, but Dade and Broward county have just as much squeezed into one nice little compact area. UM - 5 NCs: UFelon - 3 NCs: Criminoles 3 NCs. State of Florida 11 NCs in 35 years. State of Texas has who many?

Still, if you can't win at UT you do not deserve a shot at THE U.

I'm happy to read that James wants someone who's had success in college, especially at a big time program.

I'm not happy to see Strong and Schiano mentioned in the next sentence.

Rutgers and Louisville are chump change when we've potentially got candidates who've won at UGA, LSU, Miss St, and Okie St.

nothing more disappointing than the thought of ending up with strong, richt, or schiano. do we need to see that richt can never really get over the hump? Schiano .. meh... and let's not even discuss what strong has "accomplished" at texas.

it feels like the media is trying to counter anything the fans are doing as far as butch davis.

It would be so Canesy if this firm that's made some pretty **** good hires happen made us end up with Cristobal.

I have never seen a bigger push by ALL the media, against a specific candidate at a school (Butch) and a bigger push for a specific candidate at that school (Mario). Ish is infuriating.

I would rather take Butch and take the risk of probation than hire Wario.

After all we have been in a worse wasteland than probation over the last 10 years!!

Not looking good for butch.

### After reviewing circumstances that led to Butch Davis’ dismissal at North Carolina, some inside UM have concerns, even though Davis wasn’t implicated by the NCAA.

Though one person on UM’s advisory search committee (Jonathan Vilma) was recruited by Davis, played for him and likes him, the committee excluded a couple of deep-pocketed donors/Board of Trustee members who strongly support Davis.

Davis remains a fallback option; one UM person said athletic director Blake James knows he has Davis if all else fails.

### We reported last week that the UM administration is under the impression that Texas coach Charlie Strong has interest in the Miami job, and Fox’s Bruce Feldman reported Tuesday that Strong (37-15 at Louisville but just 10-13 at Texas) is indeed interested.

An associate of James said UM prefers to hire someone who has had success as a head coach in college (even better if it’s at a major program) or with an NFL team.

Strong, Georgia’s Mark Richt and Greg Schiano would qualify, as would others whose names are swirling in coaching rumors, such as Arizona’s Rich Rodriguez, Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen or North Carolina’s Larry Fedora. And none of us should be surprised if the search firm hired uncovers a successful active coach that nobody has mentioned, but who has interest in coming here.

UM also is expected to consider Mario Cristobal and Rob Chudzinski because of UM ties and other strengths they bring to the table. Colts coach Chuck Pagano would hold some appeal to UM, but he might not be available until January, long after the search concludes.

Do these ***** do anything right? Butch Davis or Tom Herman. There are no other options. You want the old bull or The hot up n' comer. Make A ******* CHOICE ALREADY!!!!!

That committee and the stuff they're leaking is becoming a really funny dance with core fans.

I will say, if I'm throwing money around and Patterson won't bite, Mullen is my guy all the way.

Do you feel like the committee is leaking info on "big names" to hide the fact they're really going after Butch/Mario, or are they leaking info on Butch/Mario to hide the fact they're going after big names???

...I need a scotch.

This is a bit doom and gloom, but I swear, it would be just like this program to take several months on this search only to strike out on all of our primary targets (whoever they may be) and then turn around to find Butch got tired of waiting and being a "back-up plan" and accepted any one of the many open jobs out there.

I don't understand why Mullin gets no love. The guy has done nothing but over achieve at a perennial SEC door mat and all around **** hole. His offense is innovative and he runs an aggressive defense. He's a bit of a jagoff personally but I'd take him.

As this hiring search drags on. I have less and less confidence that they are going to get it right. Now UM has hired the services of a search firm who to stole money and recommended Brady Hoke to Michigan. Instead of speaking to Butch Davis already they are sending "Do you like me? Yes or No?" notes to Mullen, Strong and Tubberville. I hope DiMare and Miller are tightening the screws to get Butch back but I just have this feeling that UM Is going to fawk this up.
I am preparing myself for five more years of shiddy football. How quickly they forget about the NCAA mess that they handed Butch yet are worried about Butch's possible indiscretions which he has already been cleared. If anyone should understand what it is like to be falsely persecuted by allegedly NCAA wrongdoings it should be UM. I hate this false sense of elitism and entitlement that this administration has yet have contributed nothing to improve the program. Three shiddy hires in a row and they have learned nothing.
