Apparently, Richt said today there isn't a timetable on the decision. If so, I'm very excited he's taken that approach. Let this situation unfold. No reason to get up or down so long as we choose the dude most likely to be effective for us this season. We have a ton of options as to how this can be approached and work guys in based on merit.
Yep, that's good to hear.
Another interesting thing he said was that he will be carrying the competition into the season.
I had Perry winning the job in camp, but we may be looking at a Deshaun Watson/Lamar Jackson situation where he takes over midseason.
The bolded is what I've been repeating since Saturday. It's totally fine and, really, should be expected
either way. It's just not sensical to put an arbitrary deadline on the situation. Perry just got here. The older guys are still improving.
The situation is fluid and some are calling for a fixed response. If Perry's as talented as we all hope, there are ways to find out if he's more effective without playing the dangerous game of losing our best chance to win, the team or hurting Perry himself.
For example, as I've already mentioned, let's say one of the older guys wins the job. Let's say Perry still runs 2nd or 3rd. Perhaps the starter is limited on certain aspects. Perhaps Perry can be brought along with specific packages. There is a ton of precedent for this approach. Sure, there are also risks, but they are far less significant to the critical priorities: winning and developing the team for meaningful games.
