The real problem is neither of the so called vets have stepped up and took the job. That should tell people all you need to know.

Brilliant analysis. It tells people all they need to know, so right now, at this moment what the scrimmage told people is that the two veterans performed at a much higher level than the freshmens. Is that what you meant?
I want Perry to win the job. Richt, I believe, wants Perry to win the job. Simply put: the closer Perry gets to his ceiling, the better chance we have of winning big.
But wishing doesn't change what happens on the field. Richt can't just hand him the job if he's not ready. The main thing that is going to accelerate the process is reps. When Kaaya won the job as a true freshman, it was a two-man battle. This has been a four-man race.
So I hope this competition gets cut to two players this week. Richt already alluded to this in his post-scrimmage presser. We've seen enough from Rosier and Shirreffs for Richt to have a preference. They are what they are and any improvements will be incremental. Pick one (without an announcement) and give the first team reps to that guy and Perry.

All of this is a bad idea if Richt is gonna hand Perry a place in the battle that he hasn't earned. It would be him ignoring his years of coaching and acting like you and others who are operating under the assumption that all Perry needs is reps and time. As if it is a foregone conclusion that Perry will be good. Perry wouldn't be the first highly touted QB to just not be any good in college. And that is with all the caveats of, "he's only a freshman", "he's only been practicing for two weeks", blah, blah. I get it.
He shouldn't be given a free pass to #2 . If he's been one of the top 2? Fine. Just a horrible message to the team otherwise.
Maybe Kaaya was just more ready to play than Perry.

Dmoney, you do great things for this site, but were singing the praises of Kirby freeman 10 years ago --calling him the next great thing, from the practice reports, so I am not buying your QB evals right now. He might get there, but I KNOW that kid is not there right now...it will go against decades of what we have seen in CFB. It's insane to think otherwise, especially since he wasn't an EE
Malik has a better arm and is a better fit in the type of offense we're becoming.

Some people have bad memories. I never called Kirby "the next great thing" or anything close. I said he was beating out Kyle Wright in practice. That turned out to be correct. And then the real games started. Incidentally, Rosier's skillset reminds me the most of Kirby. Mobile but not dynamic, inaccurate, can hit big plays deep. To his credit, though, Rosier didn't get the shakes when he actually played.
As the years have gone on, I've learned to put less stock in non-contact practice for QBs. Kaaya and Morris had everyone in the program excited but turned out to be merely above-average in real games. The main thing practices can show you is skillset. And Perry's skillset is in a different universe.
I want Perry to get as many reps as possible against the weak part of our schedule because I expect him to start at some point this season. As someone on the team said, "If we want to be the team we need to be, Perry has to become the guy."
It would be a shame to waste the first two games and the opportunity for Perry to run the offense for 8 quarters. If the plan is to make him the QB eventually, don't pussyfoot around and let Rosier or Shirreffs steal snaps that will stunt Perry's growth.

IF Perry isn't ready force feeding him snap stunts the growth of the team. Particularly when you have two guys who have little to no experience themselves. Far too many people are operating like Perry is destined to be good. Like all he needs are the snaps. There are plenty of 4-star QBs who never get on the field because the hype isn't real.
You don't chase the results. If he proves himself ready give him snaps. His training ground shouldn't be live action against opponents that may take away from a player who needs the snaps as well because they are the better option.
