Something we may see this week

A QB competition based on a few weeks of practice and two scrimmages is never going to be resolved in a quantifiable way, or at least one that is statistically relevant. At the end of the day Richt is going to trust his eyes and his gut. He knows what he has in Rosier at this point. If he doesn't feel comfortable with Rosier as the starter, it's not going to matter if he completed a few more passes than Perry (or Shirreffs) in practice.

True dat.

He didn't say that. Rosier said he didn't watch film before he had to start against Duke in 2015. It is still a horrendous quote but you are changing the quote.

I was not attempting to quote or else I would have used these " " but still doesn't detract from my point.

He wasn't preparing correctly two seasons ago and in that same quote he told everyone that he is now looking at film of the defense he sees in practice all the time and the film of future opponents.

Does that apparent change in preparation detract from the point?

No. I find it problematic that he didn't want to get better at his craft and was resigned to his spot on the depth chart until forced by necessity to study film. He never thought one day he might be starter, or was he expecting to just be handed the position based on seniority?

So correcting a mistake isn't important. He made the mistake and should be forever judged by it even if he learned from it. Ok, I see where you stand.

Forever? Stop being so melodramatic. At this point he clearly has not been able to separate himself from his main competition who has been there half the time he has who has been doing the prepping and film study Malik should have been doing at the same point in his college career.

Richt has more 10 win seasons under his belt than everyone on this board combined. He's coached numerous all Americans and award winners. He knows how to manage the emotions and egos of college athletes this isn't his first rodeo. If he decides that Perry is good enough to be the #2 QB it's for good reason.

... and if he decides Rosier and Shirreffs are 1 & 2 (any order), you'll be seeing a lot of delusional howling and bellyaching.

He'll go from being a master QB whisperer to those who think he already anointed Perry six months ago, to an out-of-touch, can't-win-the-big-one mediocre coach.

Some people are so invested in one guy they can't think straight.

Personally, I think he's going to pick the guy he thinks will give him the best chance to win the most games, and I'm good with that.

Funmy how a lot of people that swore Perry would be the day 1 starter are back pedaling now. I think Perry is the truth, but being the most physically gifted QB on the roster doesn't make you the best option right now.

Once again for the record. I'm not backpedaling.

I fully expect Perry to be the starter. Like Brooklyndee, this is based on info I got from separate conversations with people who have more insider access than either D$ or Lil Petey.

Now for the record I have been wrong before. And I'd rather the best/most effective player start.

I'm in the camp of wanting Perry to start. Having said that, I'm against starting Perry if he doesn't outright beat Sherieffs and Rosier, though.

The latter two don't have a higher ceiling than Perry, but I'm starting the QB who gives me the best chance to win right now, particularly on September 16th.

As has been mentioned on here, handing over the keys to the freshman who hasn't beaten out the two upper classmen is dangerous. You create possible dissension and division amongst the team. You also create an entitlement attitude that QBs like Jacory and Kaaya developed.

D$'s analysis of Richt's comments are spot on. Perry's growth will likely far exceed Sherieff's and Rosier's given that he's still getting acclimated to this level of play.

Perry seem to already be well liked by the team leaders and older guys like walton and chad. So I'm not sure there will be dessision on the team. Especially since these guys know how talented perry is in fact they saw it all summer and in camp.
This was before camp, "• Freshman N’Kosi Perry has displayed such tantalizing physical gifts in informal player-run workouts that one veteran UM starter at another position said he would give Perry the edge in the quarterback competition. That veteran, who does not want to be identified, noted Perry’s impressive athleticism and accuracy in throwing on the move.

Tyler St. Louis was raving about perry, mcintosh was raving about perry when he apparently juked a db before camp in summer workouts, berrios had glowing remarks in a Barry Jackson article, Richards and the list goes on so yeah I doubt there will be a rift, this isn't anything like the kaaya situation in 2014 whatsoever

From everything that you've seen D, who is the best QB on the squad & not just who you expect but based on everything you've witnessed.

Perry is just so much more talented than the upperclassmen. He has the best arm, the best release, he spins it the best, he's the most accurate, he has the most touch and he's the most athletic. It's night and day.

In terms of consistent performance, Evan has had the best camp from what I've seen and heard. Both he and Malik have improved from spring. It's a tough call between those two. Evan is taller, more consistent and doesn't throw stupid picks. Malik has a better arm and is a better fit in the type of offense we're becoming.

That doesn't mean Perry is the better choice right now. There's so much more that goes into playing QB than just having the better arm or better legs.

Rosier and Sherrifs were far better in the scrimmage and actually give us a chance vs FSU. Starting Perry vs FSU would be the equivalent of handing a forfeit note to the ref.

You're right though, this should be a 2-man race. Between Rosier and Sherrifs
Why would you cut the race down to the two QBs that give about the same chance of winning and probably have very similar ceilings. You take one and put him up against the kid with the higher ceiling. Giving the ones and two to the upperclassmen makes no sense when they essentially give you the same thing.

The smart move is to pick malik or evan and give Perry the other reps. This shouldn't be just about earning the second string job. This is also about setting the team up for the future. Get Perry as many reps as possible and if he's ready this season great, if not then he will be far ahead of the curve come next year.

For the record, I'm not preferring any specific individual.

I fully expect the best QB to be the starter. Like Brooklyndee & Cane Dynasty this is also based on info I got from conversations with people who have insider access. You have insider sources, I have insider sources, everybody has insider sources.

Also for the record I have never been wrong before. And I would also rather the best and most effective player start.

Shirreffs does NOT have a noodle arm. He's not Dan Marino, but I'd bet his arm is stronger than Ken Dorsey or Steve Walsh. He has plenty of arm to play at this level.

Wow. Never once in your life even?

You should start a religion.

The way that I see it is if the offense is going to become what Richt envisions (and quite frankly what many people on this board envision)... ....a faster paced, more dynamic offense with Zone reads, rollouts, QB designed runs, and keeping the opposing defense on their toes with a strong arm and elusive play making ability then he knows that there'a a certain player who can run that offense.

Not to say that we can't win with certain other players who put up decent stats in the scrimmage but he may be looking at the bigger picture.

I trust what Dmoney and Pete are saying and their observations.
But this thing is very fluid and things can change so I am keeping an open mind.

I think he starts too but yes we may be wrong but we sticking to our guns fuq it

If Malik Rosier plays in a big game this year for us we are in a for a world of hurt. He's not a staring qb. Period. Rick giving perry every chance to win the job should tell you all you need to know about how much he trusts Rosier. Just because he's been a "top performer" in camp doesn't mean he's any good.

People parroting that line tells me all I need to know about them. Richt said when Kaaya declared that Perry would get to compete. 8 months later people are still reading into something he told them from the jump.

Rick telling us the QB competition would be open to all the scholarship QBs somehow morphed into Rick is dying to give the job to Perry.

This is simple. At this point Richt should know which QB between Rosier and Shireffs he'd choose as the starter. The only unknown Remaining is if Perry, who is clearly the most talented, is ready to start. Therefore the battle should be narrowed to Perry and Shireffs (or Perry).

This isn't complicated in any way. Perry gives us the best chance to win big. If he's not ready it comes down to one of the other two

You're right. It is simple. It's simple to think you should eliminate one of the top 2 performers from a 3 way battle after a week of practice because you want to get the third place guy more reps because that's the guy the fans like.

I'm rooting for Evan to win the job. Unless Perry is the best guy now I don't think he should get the job because he'll be the best guy at some undisclosed future time.

If that's the case I'd make Shirreffs and Perry my top two, Rosier has had plenty of time to get better and he hasn't. Gotta find a #1 soon.

as soon as I read that Rosier never bothered to watch film before Richt got here was enough to know he is not the qb you want managing your offense. I doubt the prior coaches were locking the film room so Rosier couldn't get in.

He didn't say that. Rosier said he didn't watch film before he had to start against Duke in 2015. It is still a horrendous quote but you are changing the quote.

Rosier must be punished for being honest about how unprepared he was as a freshmans under the worst staff in UM history.

I would prefer one of the older guys step up and perform. However, I get it. If anybody but Perry is the QB then we'll have this same distraction next season. If you get Perry in the "QB competition" is over.
