Some tidbits from practice

Still a little uncomfortable/shocking to be so excited about the DL when we just lost the best DE duo that’s ever played here
But that's how it used to be. We lost a ludicrous amount of talent in '87 and everyone assumed we'd take a step back. The '88 team was nearly every bit as good, and got screwed on a bad call. From 2000 to 2001 we lost Santanama Moss and Reggie Wayne and the offense got *better.*

It’s been **** near 25 years since this happened

Give me a moment

The DL is FREAKISH though

Lightfoot reminds me of Jason Taylor. They play stronger than their size predicts. If you go back and watch Lightfoot’s tape, he is a force on the field. His production in the number of snaps he had was impressive. He is only going to get stronger even if his weight doesn’t go up a ton. I hope he keeps his agility. I expect he will have a breakout season this year.
I keep saying, he maybe not ideal in certain situations but until a team actually proves and exploits that narrative, he is just too talented not to have on the field at all times.

Yea those 98, 99 and 00 teams were filled with guys who you looked at and said, "well, that's the best we're ever gonna do at that position". Then 2001 hits.

Edge turns into Portis
Bubba Franks turns into Shockey
Blades turns into Reed
Moss and Wayne turn into Johnson
Morgan turns into Vilma

You just never know whose gonna become a star and how good they can be.

I just don’t see another team with a better overall roster than us. Of course the Oregons and OSU/Texas/ND rosters are always stacked but this is by far the best team on paper in 20+ years

Can’t. *******. Wait.
The only potential holes I see are depth/experience on the OL, a proven weapon at TE, and our LBs while good are missing a future NFL star type unless someone emerges. But there's enough everywhere else to beat anyone in the country.

It’s an interesting dilemma, in mirabal recent interview he says mccoy is in a big leadership role now…If cantwell is the lt, max is the rg, what if mccoy’s transition to a new position doesn’t go well

Does he not start? He has the most experience in the room so maybe they shuffle things around so he does but mirabal motto is play the best 5
I dont see a world where McCoy doesnt start... Maybe they like Samson at G much more but I also feel like if Samson can win at RT (assuming Max at rg and Cantwell at lt as you mentioned) then McCoy goes back to LG where I thought he played alright last year. Not a wow player but I dont think he was a full on liability. I know most think some of his weaknesses will be covered up more at T instead of G but we shall see.

And what do those teams have in common?

At least one Cristobal on the roster and/or coaching staff...

OL is our biggest weakness for sure but we can balance that by having some of, if not, the best coaching and development in college

Margins are razor thin these days for everyone with NIL for sure

I recently went back and watched the first 3 playoff games (no Indiana game yet)
I couldn't believe how much they used LF all over the field. They had him lined up over the center, W9, stacked. I noticed that he started to use his bend and power more efficiently. At times, his power looked like it surprised him!
Obvious passing downs are going to be a nightmare for opposing teams. I expect a lot more blitzing from Mo and Chase too.
I think we'll still use the nickel but Scott was a 1 of 1 when it came to pursuit and his ability to move through blocks. More A gap pressure and a ton on picks this year.

Lightfoot with more good weight and a rush plan bro..He flashed some insane bend and strength with elite agility and motor already

Dunnigan at safety is the right move for his early development, i think he’s similar to jakobe

I jumped out of my seat during the championship when Lightfoot absolutely bulldozed their RB 5 yards into Mendoza like it was nothing. He is much stronger than his frame would suggest.
