Some national views on the Canes

I always like to look at these national rankings to compare our perception in this Canes bubble versus the national view. These guys are Michigan fans who do a good job with national coverage on their YouTube channel. Of course, the real story will be told on the field:

Well, done list, the only issue I have with it is, UFs offensive line isn’t very good. I’m not really sure how they have them ranked in the top 10 but other than that it’s a good list.

Florida at # 4 offensive line units and # 8 RB duo? I realize their o-line wasn’t as dog **** bad as we originally thought, but #4 best? Am I missing something?
I don’t see it either. Seems because they weren’t as dog **** as everyone predicted last season they’re gonna be world beater this year. I’m no arguing Lagway isn’t really good but the hype train took off with this kid and I’m not sure he’s earned it yet.

Lagway is very talented (I said he was way better than Mertz in Spring 24); however, he isn’t doing **** with a messed up throwing shoulder that needs surgery when the season is over. There are rumors that maybe he had the surgery earlier this year (it’s an injury he’s had since HS), and that’s why he missed the spring and still isn’t throwing, but I’m skeptical about that.

If their OL isn’t lights out this season, I am legit scared for him. He’s a good kid and deserves better.

I just don’t see the accuracy with Lagway. Rocket arm and RB talent, not sure he’s a legit QB. Honestly reminds me of a rich man’s DJU. I got it wrong with Jordan Travis though, who was a lot better than I thought. So I certainly could be wrong. But even if healthy (big if) there’s a non zero chance the kid greatly underperforms expectations.

So sounds like we should have no problem winning the ACC!

Hard to be accurate when your throwing shoulder is injured.

I was extremely impressed with him during UF’s spring practices and spring game (again, in 2024, prior to last season). He showed real promise. But then he reinjured his shoulder and was playing through it because he was forced to. He also apparently had a core injury and a hamstring injury, which Billy has been evasive about.

That’s why I feel for the kid. He absolutely may underperform expectations, but it won’t be due to talent. He just shouldn’t have gone to UF, where there was a terrible OL, and the coaches have been terrible at development, and there was no depth at QB so once Mertz went down he went in before he was ready instead of redshirting.
