Social media’s impact on football coaches

That would be true if the primary users of social media and the loudest voices reflected the majority of opinions. In this case they may or may not, but for your argument to work it would have to reflect the larger base as capitalism is supposed to. When market forces are driven by a select few with the loudest voices it’s not capitalism it’s an oligarchy.
 
Among other poor decisions made, the hiring of his unqualified son was a colossal mistake. Right away credibility is questioned and after the performance of the QBs over the last 12 months, the decision has been validated and social media has just amplified the validation.

So that’s where this all started. Actually in year one the offensive problems were obvious too. So it’s been simmering for 3 seasons...

When is the last time you saw a coach make a coaching change during a 15 game winning streak? Offense was humming for the second half of year one, then the streak continued through 10 games of year two. We took the terrible loss at Pitt, then the blowout against a far superior Clemson, and a competitive game where Rosier's TOs killed us against Wisconsin. Then the LSU Rosier-Feagles fiasco, followed by five straight wins.

This is the offseason for change. We will see what he does. Gut says he won't do anything and he will ride or die with what he believes next year.

We'll see how it works out for him.
 
He still has this offseason to make changes. I'm not sure there's much he could do this year. Hand over play calling duties? To who? Thomas Brown?. It's not like you can hire new coaches mid season and just install a new offense. It's clear that what he's doing isn't working but he still has an opportunity to make some changes.

I actually tend to think Jimmy would have been buried on social media too. The situation with him and the leftover coaches in 1984 was the very definition of toxic. And then in 1985, losing to the Gators opening day and getting blown out by Tennessee in a major bowl game. And then the original Fiasco Bowl in the 1986 season. I think social media may have dragged JJ down to the point where we wouldn't have won a title in 1987, had it existed at the time.

I also do think that in general, we are some of the worst fans on social media, and tend to play a real part in creating that air of toxicity around our own program. It would help somewhat if a preponderance of our fans weren't such ****s on social media. IMO.

I think the evidence is piling up and we are indeed the worst fan base in college football.

The primary users of social media do reflect the majority of opinions - of social media. Just like the primary owners of cars are car owners. It's true that market forces that are driven by a select few are not free market forces. The corollary to that in a social media context is censureship.

Hahaha. "Goo guzzling" made me choke on my early afternoon martini but all this is spot on.

The funny (not really) part is this same media would do everything Chise described here but then would bring down the full cot**** weight of their entire newspaper if the occasional opportunity to completely destroy the program arose- but that's a different discussion.

And nothing would have come out of it.....not with a coach at the helm of a program that lost 31 scholarships in a state that was dominated by two rival football programs playing for national championships.
Those clowns didn't speak for the majority of UM fans either.
 
Worst fan base in America doesn't even begin to describe it. I mean just look at these animals.

Now, the minute a coach is revealed as a fraud it’s broadcast all over the world, and recruits are hammered with what a disaster the HC is. The program immediately becomes toxic, and recruiting goes in the tank. It’s a very palpable phenomenon.

Our first hardcore social media age HC was Folden. Look at the way the program became toxic as soon as he was revealed as a fraud. We went from beating Alabaga for a bunch of recruits to stealing guys like Bobyonce’ Knowles and Terrance Henley from FIU. Same pattern is now underway with Rick.

I tend to think that once our program reaches this level of social media toxicity I don’t think the current HC can turn it around. It’ll take a miracle OC hire who instantly transforms the offense into a top 5 deal. Otherwise, it’s a wrap. It can’t be slow progress that us vultures could immediately poke holes in. It would have to an immediate and very noticeable turnaround.

If Booch David did what he did here during this same social media age he never would have made it past year 3 or 4. The standard here at the time was infinitely higher than it is now, and he would have been buried by the fans in today’s social media world.

#truth as should be, he **** the bed on an 11-1 type of squad. His doing.

Look at what happened to Brian Kelly in 2016. He had a 4-8 season. He self evaluated and realized he had to change things up. Overhauled the staff, and 2 years later, he's in the college football playoff. The reason people are tired of Richt is he's shown a propensity for not wanting to change things up and wants to stay comfortable with what he knows.

It's inconceivable to me that these coaches who get paid multi millions of dollars would do anything BUT this in response to a poor season.

Again the kids that are making decisions to go to school are not stupid, their advisors know just like we do. Expect the recruiting class to suffer.
