Soccer stadium

Don't forget "tickets distributed". That includes the frequent "buy one for $3 and bring 2 invisible friend" promotions.

UM reported attendance of 66,160 for Wake Forest. Below is a picture with 6:26 remaining in the 1Q. You be the judge of what attendance figures really mean.

hey i can see myself in my seat in that one

the attendance for that game was horrible, and we where ranked 7th in the nation and undefeated, but that wasnt worse than the bethune game in 2012, i literally spotted my friend perfectly from across the field

Would be the best thing to happen to this program since the '01 championship.

Please dear Lord get us out of that piece of crap stadium.

some more info on the soccer stadium and miami having preliminary discussions with Beckham Group

I am surprised that there isn't more talk of the tropical park location. Also can't the build a Stadium with retractable seating? Either for the endzones or along the baseline.

I'm sure both of those options will be discussed since it's now pretty likely that the university and the Beckham group are talking.

Ethics commission investigating Beckham Miami soccer team deal

http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2014/...investigating-beckham-miami-soccer-team-deal/

The Miami Herald reports the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust is specifically investigating the propriety of Beckham having dined with Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez without having first registered as a lobbyist before pitching the politician on a proposal that would require official action.

First time in my life I'm pulling for soccer! Interesting that we'd take a 40000 seat venue and that the Port site is seemingly the most conducive of their options to the larger venue. Obviously still a long shot but more than just wishful thinking. I'll take it! First person to whine about traffic should get punched in the throat if it happens. I'd kill to be stuck on an offramp trying to get to the OB again.

Haha. Punch directly to the adam's apple!

Best thing about a venue that size- Can you say "minimal away team ticket allotment?". Not to mention that it'd probably be at least partially roofed and loud. Oh well, when you wish upon a washed up English fútboller!

I'll share some info here because I saw someone make a mistake in another thread.

A poster shared this table as reason that a smaller, soccer-sized stadium would not be feasible for UM's attendance numbers

These numbers are, in fact, "attendance numbers." However, these numbers are different from what is called "butts in seats." Attendance numbers include all tickets sold (regardless of whether or not the fan shows up), workers for the stadium, all staff for both teams, and all players for the event. Basically, attendance refers to every single person involved with the event. Butts in seats refers to the actual number of fans that enter the stadium and watch the game from their seats. Basically, butts in seats refers to the number of actual fans in the stands.

Furthermore, schools and organizations often oversell events. The goal for many ticketing offices is to oversell by a certain percentage (the percentage reflecting the normal amount of fans to not actually show up to games for whatever reason). Yes, schools can oversell tickets to an event. In fact, it isn't uncommon for programs/organizations to oversell. It's pretty normal for a thriving event.

I'm not saying that a soccer stadium would or would not work for us, but I'm just sharing the info because it seems many people don't understand how the system works.

:stormwarning:

This is incorrect. Read NCAA Bylaw 20.9.9.3.1. You clearly do not understand how "the system" works.

Traffic shouldn't be issue in my opinion. Park anywhere along the Metrorail/Metromover route and drops you off right in the area . The Port of Miami tunnel takes you straight into the port avoiding city traffic. There's going be water taxis. Plus, the games are Saturday, avoiding the work week traffic. This is a fantastic opportunity for the "U" Need to email DS and Blake show support !

AKA, "why the **** didn't we start getting kickbacks once this whole thing started!?"

and lulz at the "Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust", seriously???

Ohhhh, traffic would be an issue at that site as Saturdays are huge cruise days. That said, people can deal with it like any other major downtown does. Problem with us is we have too many too quick to point out potential flaws when what they really should be saying is "I live in Broward or Palm Beach and SLS is convenient for the one game I attend each year.". And I say this as a guy that lives in downtown Lauderdale and can easily get to SLS in 20 mins. I'd gladly have to park miles away or show up before anyone else 7 times a year to have a better venue closer to campus that provides a real homefield advantage again.

Interesting. Isn't 40k a little light though? 50 would be perfect IMO. Maybe we could still have one game annually at SLS, such as FSU or a major OOC opponent. Thereby keeping SLS somewhat happy.

I haven't read the whole thread but if this hasn't been said already it should:

Winning produces fans. Fans are what produce atmosphere in the stadium, for the most part.

I would rather spend the money that we would have to spend on a buyout and new lease, on a coaching staff who will win. SLS is not the best stadium by any means. BUT, anyone who has been there for the few big games we have had (09 OU, '10 FSU, '13 UF) knows that when it gets packed, it isn't all that bad. Our problem right now is winning. Not the stadium. We averaged nearly 70k in 2002 after coming off a title. Win and people will come and our atmosphere "problem" is largely solved.

Want to make UM look more like a small-time program? Play in a stadium that holds 40,000 people. No one gives a crap about how state of the art the stadium is. Have you been to the Swamp? That place is hardly state of the art but holds nearly 90,000 fans. Kids want to play in front of 90,000 fans...has nothing to do with how many TVs and amenities the stadium has in it.

I believe most of the "cruise" traffic is on Friday and Monday.
