Soccer stadium

I'll share some info here because I saw someone make a mistake in another thread.

A poster shared this table as reason that a smaller, soccer-sized stadium would not be feasible for UM's attendance numbers

These numbers are, in fact, "attendance numbers." However, these numbers are different from what is called "butts in seats." Attendance numbers include all tickets sold (regardless of whether or not the fan shows up), workers for the stadium, all staff for both teams, and all players for the event. Basically, attendance refers to every single person involved with the event. Butts in seats refers to the actual number of fans that enter the stadium and watch the game from their seats. Basically, butts in seats refers to the number of actual fans in the stands.

Furthermore, schools and organizations often oversell events. The goal for many ticketing offices is to oversell by a certain percentage (the percentage reflecting the normal amount of fans to not actually show up to games for whatever reason). Yes, schools can oversell tickets to an event. In fact, it isn't uncommon for programs/organizations to oversell. It's pretty normal for a thriving event.

I'm not saying that a soccer stadium would or would not work for us, but I'm just sharing the info because it seems many people don't understand how the system works.

I'll throw this in, too: Blake started out in ticket sales before working his way up.

He has more than enough background in working with seating numbers to make this work if it's possible.

Don't forget "tickets distributed". That includes the frequent "buy one for $3 and bring 2 invisible friend" promotions.

UM reported attendance of 66,160 for Wake Forest. Below is a picture with 6:26 remaining in the 1Q. You be the judge of what attendance figures really mean.

Correct, the "buy one, get two" would still count towards the ticket number.

This Wake Forest game was employee appreciation day. Employees got tickets (which counted towards the total ticket number), but didn't show up. The attendance was still technically 66,160 (if your number was correct-- I didn't double check), but butts in seats was a whole different story.

50 55 is the right number for miami. Play huge games at sunlife when extra capacity is needed.

And if we are planning on playing FSU/Notre Dame type games at Sun Life, then I think even a 40k stadium works. We don't need any more than that for the UVA's of the world.

Honestly, ***** that. Forget the bigger attendance games. The only thing we would do in that case is open it up for more opposing fans to come. If we get a 50-55K seat stadium, give the opponent their little block of 5,000 and let them live with that.

I hope you realize that the Strikers (NASL) which plays in Lockheart stadium in Ft. Lauderdale has an average attendance of 4,000 mind you this is basically the minor leagues.

"Mario: How we gonna get in there? I got two words for you: Im-possible.
Luigi: Nothing's impossible, Mario. Improbable, Unlikely, but never impossible.
Mario: I hope you're right."

If the Beck thinks it's possible, why shouldn't we??

Would be cool for a smaller crowd (lol, whatever that even means), random exhibition games.. Like others said maybe vs. Duke or somebody similar. Gotta think it would help foster the whole state-of-Miami vibe.

Embarrassing. This hurts us more than the "cloud."

If I remember correctly that was like a 16 play drive or something ridiculous such as that.

It really is amazing how far you are away from the action on the sidelines.

Very strange alternate sites to the Port. It's like they're just saying there's a place with 2 free acres here or here's another site with 6 open acres. Not very encouraging for our cause if they're only looking at alternatives smaller than some backyards in West Kendall.

Almost sounds like a fake search process where they have already settled on PortMiami as the site....

Has anyone every been to Bobby Dodd Stadium for a UM/G-Tech game? Bobby Dodd is in the heart of downtown Atlanta and seats 50k. On game day, it feels packed and the energy is great. 45-50k would be a great size... even for big games. Limited supplies leads to increased demand. The FSU tix would go for over $250 and be sold out 5-6 months in advance. That's what any self-respecting university would want.
