Can we put the D back in "Coach D"?

It certainly ain't pretty at times but right now he is getting more and more out of these guys every week. With such a rough roster I think that's about all we could ask for.

2nd half shutout in the biggest game we played since they have been here.

He's playing more man to man and it's showing.

I saw Howard & Gunter press a few WRs at the LOS tonight.

He's taken a ton of **** and plenty of it is fair but a good coach should get his guys (especially a lot of new guys) and get better as the year goes on.

I said a few times I was worried about the punishment of the season getting to these young guys but they seem to be playing with more and more confidence each week.

I was fed up with D, but the D has steadily improved.

I ain't even mad no mo' at him.

They're showing improvement, that's what I wanted to see most. Secondly, he's being more aggressive with his blitzes and while they haven't got the QB it's certainely had an effect. The young guys are getting better and playing harder each week. McCord had a sack, not sure how that was an incomplete pass, and with Porter back the DL looked markedly better. Not great but better.

He finally has his top defensive lineman back in action - Curtis Porter. He can finally call plays that he could not before. Same folks that hated on him should also recognize his success.

Not quite yet but he is getting there. Show me these next three games and he can have it. Fisch on the other hand, Corching the **** out that offense.

I think it's two fold. The young guys are getting more experience and learning to play the defense better.

I also think because of how young the team was he didn't really know what he had. As this year has progressed he has learned more about what the young guys are good at and what they aren't and put them in better positions to succeed.

The defense is still bad...and there are still gaffes by all...but...you can't hate on the fight they've shown in the last three games. That is all you can ask for. The defense has been put in a lot of compromising positions this year and they still keep fighting and its paying off despite a lot of things. A lot of those kids are going to look back at this point in their collegiate careers and be proud of what they are doing...it shows a lot.

Defense was better then "bad" last night. Other then the long TD run in which DP inexplicably vacated the middle, they played well. You can start to see an identity on D much like an Alabama team. We are playing hard nosed football. Even when Thomas made some nice runs he paid for it at the end. Wide receivers were getting slammed to the ground. VT running backs were running out of bounds rather then get hammered. This young team may miss some assignments but they are laying the wood and imposing fear in the other team. For a defense that was on the field for 90 plays they never tired and matched the intensity of VT. Tell me one defense that plays that long and still wins the battle at the LOS at the end. This is Utough developing in front of us.

Key series of the game - VT down by 8 in the fourth and their OC rallies the troops on the sidelines. VT players are hyped, dancing around, and Thomas is in their face telling them they are going to win. If I saw that in the past I would be worried about Miami matching the intensity. How did the young Miami defense respond? They absolutely beat down the VT offense in 3 plays. On the second play that should have been a sack McCord tried to kill Thomas. You see a team respond like that you have to be excited.

The defense is still scares the **** out of me, but they have shown improvement. They also have been showing lots of fight, and have been laying the wood to people the last few games. I'd say Dorito has moved his way up from corch to coarch.

If the offense can actually sustain a few drives, and keep time of possession close for a change, the D might come away with some pretty decent numbers over the next three games.

Ball flies up and the running back catches it and then gets drilled for a 2-3 yard loss. Big play right there

Yeah man this is exactly what I'm getting at. We are still a defense that's going to give up 200 yards rushing and struggle to get pressure to the QB. That's what we have to work with and that's not changing until these guys improve and we get some new blood in there. But what we are doing is squeezing more and more positives out of the group as we go along and games like this only help these guys going forward.

You can tell he trusts the young guys a lot more and their experience is showing. It's not always pretty but it's been pretty effective the last 3 games. He shows a lot of different looks and I imagine they will be better disguised as theses young guys get even more experienced

Totally agree, the offense left the defense out to dry last night, and the defense kept bending but didn't break.

All I have asked for this year is to see improvement and more aggression, we are starting to see both and I am more excited about the future, rather than petrified about it.

I agree with this.
