So we finally offer Treon Harris as a QB.

My Personal thoughts: This offer was due to Harris in the summer, not a month before signing day. As you guys have mentioned, it's rather comical that Miami waits until Florida State wins a national championship to offer one of their QB commits.

Why was it due in summer? During the summer we were still trying to build a core class of recruits that would fill needs. Treon is a project that you offer if you have space.

Since no one around here can seem to pull their heads out of their @sses long enough to THINK clearly without foaming at the mouth to b*tch about how stupid AG and the staff is, LETS THINK ABOUT THIS.

Treon is in our backyard. We have had the opportunity to offer him at QB this WHOLE time, but didnt. So what changed????

WHO was suspended for the bowl game and has had a LOT of bad rumors floating around him most of the season?

This isnt about the staff suddenly deciding they love Treon as a QB. This is about Olsen IMO. They think he's flaking out, or maybe even likely to bail, and now we may be looking at taking a 3rd QB in this class because things have CHANGED.

We didnt just suddenly decide that Treon is a great QB, either we struck out with other options and they have an offer and he was next on the board, OR, MORE LIKELY, one of the QBs on our roster is flaking out, and they have decided to try to bring in 3.

The majority of your posts are about how everyone else has their heads up their own asses. Get it together.

It's likely that hardly anyone thinks that this is about the staff "deciding they love Treon as a QB." This is about the staff seeming like they are chasing their own tails (whether true or not). Whether or not it has anything to do with Olsen is irrelevant to what this looks and feels like to the local crew. If you're not going to offer someone like Treon (QB or not) it's because you feel strongly about the situation. If you feel strongly about the situation, you don't alter that stance because there is "some movement" on the roster. This is bigger than the evaluation of a QB.

here's the problem. Golden is deciding to play the game, only way too late. An offer at this point is almost an after-thought and almost offensive to Ice. We didn't think enough of you to offer until you convinced all your friends to follow you to FSU, the most recent National champs.

Yikes

I don't see how we can reach those conclusions without knowing more. Barrow may have been in a good spot with Ice and Treon, having told them that an opportunity is not there now (and we don't want to mislead you by pretending to offer you at QB and never really give you a shot) but, if one develops, we expect to offer you as a QB.

Frankly, given who UM is dealing with here--and I mean that as Ice being someone with respect in the local football community who has had other children come through the program and worked there himself and will have bigtime kids we're recruiting in the future--I'm expecting that the staff would not just carelessly throw out an offer and risk what people on here are assuming. When you add in the Kirkland situation from last year, the staff must have walked on egg shells here.

Until proven otherwise, I'm more inclined to think that these guys thought this one through and had reasons to make the offer knowing that it would not be viewed or received negatively where it counts.

Of course they thought this through. Its plain as day they did. You dont do this NOW, unless you have put some thought into it. Barrow knows the deal down here. He knows ICe Harris. Coley has been working this area and knows the territory well too. These guys didnt just wake up drunk and decided to do this ham handed. They are either doing this now to smooth things over, with the knowledge that he will never take the offer, which is actually what they hope (that he wont), OR, there is an issue on the roster with one of our QBs, most likely Olsen, and they now feel they need a 3rd QB, and they offered Treon first because he was next on the board.

Rational, logical, and makes a lot of sense...but not as fun as ranting and raving and turning everything into an anti-Golden post.

Here's yet ANOTHER thought for you, stemming from the "we may need a 3rd QB" theory.

We are going to take a 3rd QB now. They KNOW, if they offer another QB at this juncture, and DONT offer Treon, it would be the ultimate slap in the face. So they HAD to offer him first, before offering another 3rd QB, so it doesnt look like we totally think the kid is @ss at QB. I mean if you go out and offer a 3rd QB now, and STILL ignore Treon, that would be pretty insulting, if there is bad blood in the community about it as it is.

And as for all this BS about "Playing the game", maybe that's ALL this is. Anyone considered that? That maybe they have NO desire to take him at QB, but there were grumblings within the community that we are disprespecting him, and so we threw him the offer so he can say we offered him at QB, and smooth out any bad blood, but we did so knowing FULL well that he's gone and we have zero chance. We basically gave him a token offer knowing we have zero chance, to smooth out any negative stuff going on about "the hometown team not offering him". Its either THAT, or we have developed a problem that makes them feel they NOW need to take a 3rd QB.

Yeah, that would be an absolutely brilliant move.

Holy ****.

cane4life has been in full ****** mode for a while now

I do agree with you C4L, and maybe it's just me being completely naive, but a staff containing James Coley and Mike Barrow wouldn't be dumb enough to just float some **** out there.

I mean, I hope. Coley would be his main recruiter if it was a QB thing so part of me wants to defer to him.

So it is better to not have offered him at all?

That's the only legitimate question. And, given it's Treon Harris (which means more than an ordinary QB with the potential to be a star at another position), you make an early decision to play it a certain way and you stick by it. Otherwise, it may expand existing negative chatter. That's not a risk I roll with at this point. If you think it's just people on this board who react to the offer like "oh really, now?" then I'm not sure what to say. This is a reality we have to deal with and the coaches should be aware of (I think they are, which makes the rumored move more puzzling).

So, what if the early decision was to tell the kid that we could not offer him an opportunity at QB at the time, but will make that offer if the opportunity develops? What if the staff is sticking to its early decision on how to play it and is playing it exactly as it was communicated to Treon? Everyone here assumes that an offer at this point will be received negatively, but it might just be viewed as the staff having acted honestly and proceeded when the opportunity arose and exactly as everyone involved understood might be a possibility.

I'm not defending the staff because I don't know if it dropped the ball or did not, but I don't see criticizing based upon assumptions as making any sense either.

So let me see if I get this straight. It would have been better to NEVER offer him, than to offer him a month before signing day, if this was just politics to keep the locals happy and not to seem like we were disrespecting the kid? KEEPING IN MIND, that they obviously didnt seem to want him at QB very much to begin with.

What do you think are the likely effects of this offer?

Zippo. Nada. He's going to FSU, Im sure he will politely decline. They will laugh and be like "Oh Finally" Lulz... but at least he got it. Think about THIS. What happens if we go out and offer a 3rd QB NOW, and its NOT Treon??? What do you think the likely effects of THAT would be? You think anyone butthurt about us not offering him at QB wont be SEETHING if we offered a 3rd QB from somewhere else, and STILL didnt offer Treon?

At this point, IF we are going to offer a 3rd QB, we had to offer Treon FIRST, and wait for him to pass, then go after someone else, or it would have looked like a real slap in the face.

With how tight we are on numbers, if we are offering Treon, someone is not coming. Doesn't have to be another QB, but someone that this staff originally thought was coming isn't coming and they know it.

Well well well

Hate to say I told you so but I told you so.

This coach is terrible and in way over his head

As usual too late by this staff.

In your eyes, who else was offered late by this staff? We're not getting them all, but I recall of good amount of kids saying UM was one of their first offers. (under this current staff)

Hearing Giovanni Bernard also received his UM offer today

Bernard was a top-notch back that made it very clear that he wanted to get out of the state. Harris is a project QB who has been insisting on being a QB even though it's highly unlikely he'll make it as one in any major college program.

Stop lying, Al Jr. Harris has never insisted on anything other than getting a "shot" to play QB. He was actually very open to the possibility that he might get moved at some point. He just wanted a shot.

Some of you Alpologists love to spread lies to try to excuse away the decisions that are so crazy that it looks like one of AlFAILfa's pillars fell and hit him in the head.

What have you been on lately. You used to be a somewhat reasonable poster. You've become a raving nutcase lately.

Nice response, dumb ****.

OH absolutely. FULL ******.

Because Ive listed THREE reasons why it made sense to do this now from a strategic perspective. But the alternative I should get with is "Golden is a moron and an amateur". Because that makes much more sense. A guy that has been for years acknowledged as a HIGHLY organized recruiter with detailed plans on everything, a guy with great recruiters l ike Coley on staff, and people that KNOW the territory well like Hurlie, Barrow and Coley, and they are going to totally be alseep at the wheel and not think about how or when to offer Treon. As if Treon was playing at "Dark Side of the Moon High School", and not at the same school as several of our other recruits.

I mean GOOD GAWD, if **** is the absence of all reason, this place has really hit the mark.

Or they feel we are losing a QB on the Roster and need to take a 3rd. And Im pretty sure its not Gray Crow they are sweating about.

Stop it. Only blind speculation, crystal balls, over-reaction, and venom toward Miami football are allowed here. There's no place for logic 'round these parts. GTFOH

Because the current staff cannot do anything right, including the ones recognized as competent or great recruiters, it is clear that the only real answer is that Golden is going to Penn State, Butch is the new coach, and he in fact offered Treon at quarterback.

Or

That IOU was correct in saying Miami got their best talent, which in code was translated to Treon.
