So we finally offer Treon Harris as a QB.

So it is better to not have offered him at all?

That's the only legitimate question. And, given it's Treon Harris (which means more than an ordinary QB with the potential to be a star at another position), you make an early decision to play it a certain way and you stick by it. Otherwise, it may expand existing negative chatter. That's not a risk I roll with at this point. If you think it's just people on this board who react to the offer like "oh really, now?" then I'm not sure what to say. This is a reality we have to deal with and the coaches should be aware of (I think they are, which makes the rumored move more puzzling).

I think this offer has everything to do with Al trying to get some names into the fold like JC, Lane and maybe solidifying Chad

This, this and some more of this.

And as for all this BS about "Playing the game", maybe that's ALL this is. Anyone considered that? That maybe they have NO desire to take him at QB, but there were grumblings within the community that we are disprespecting him, and so we threw him the offer so he can say we offered him at QB, and smooth out any bad blood, but we did so knowing FULL well that he's gone and we have zero chance. We basically gave him a token offer knowing we have zero chance, to smooth out any negative stuff going on about "the hometown team not offering him". Its either THAT, or we have developed a problem that makes them feel they NOW need to take a 3rd QB.

Yeah, that would be an absolutely brilliant move.

Holy ****.

They arent going to say it like that dude. For Gawd's sakes man. Im sure they will spin it "hey man, we were tight on scholies and not sure what our numbers would be because of the looming sanctions, we already had guys on board, we had too many QBs on the roster, etc..etc..etc.... ". They arent going to say "Hey, we dont want your family ****ed at us, and locals thinking that we stiffed you and were going to offer you just so people dont think we are @ssholes, even though we know there is zero chance you come here".

Personally, they offered him for political reasons, knowing he would never come here, but to smooth things out, but waited until they knew there was no chance he would actually accept, OR, we suddenly feel we need a new QB, and that's why we offered.

I mean SMDH at people acting like the staff didnt know who Treon is.

Hearing Giovanni Bernard also received his UM offer today

Bernard was a top-notch back that made it very clear that he wanted to get out of the state. Harris is a project QB who has been insisting on being a QB even though it's highly unlikely he'll make it as one in any major college program.

Stop lying, Al Jr. Harris has never insisted on anything other than getting a "shot" to play QB. He was actually very open to the possibility that he might get moved at some point. He just wanted a shot.

Some of you Alpologists love to spread lies to try to excuse away the decisions that are so crazy that it looks like one of AlFAILfa's pillars fell and hit him in the head.

Y'all are hilarious.

1) Offering him as a QB does not mean we want him as a QB. It means we offer him what he wants and need be change him later, just like FSU was gonna do.

2) It isn't just "our staff", so cut the bull****. Florida and Auburn also offered him as a QB, which to me says there have to be rumblings of his commitment to FSU.

3) This offer ain't got **** to do with Kaaya, Rosier, or Olsen until it does. Until then, no sense in poopin your panties. Tito said yall fake.

Agree. Not sure why people are making such a big deal out of this. We had particular needs that we focused on. It's quite possible the coaches reevaluated the incoming class, how many slots may still be left, and then decided there would be enough room to go ahead and offer him as what he is, a project. Everyone keeps whining about how the staff keeps taking projects, but then whined about not offering Harris. He is the poster boy of projects when it comes to being a QB, and he had previously said he didn't want to play any other position. Many players get offers later in the recruiting cycle after the staff has determined that there would be room for them.
then, clearly you don't understand how recruiting works. You had every opportunity to see his game and visit with him. You had every opportunity to offer him which may have helped bring in some other big names, yet you wait until its way too late, after the team he has committed to wins the NC and after he has recruited some studs to join him. Then you suddenly decide to play the game?

Absolutely reeks of amateur hour.

No, clearly you have no idea how it works. We determined that there may be a spare spot, so we offer someone who is without a doubt a PROJECT QB that has little likelihood of being one yet insists on it. Basically, there may be room so we decided, sure, we'll give this project a shot. He's not someone you waste a spot on early on as you are still focusing on the targets that are actually expected to fill needs.

lol, wow. I'm sure its completely based on a free spot we suddenly have. New around here?

No, it's not "suddenly", it is now well into the recruiting process and we have most of our core class set up. This is when you make offers that are just gambles on some kid that is a project but maybe could turn into something if you have the room. Bottom line is Treon is NOT a big time QB prospect no matter how much he or his dad want to pretend he is. He is a big time athlete, but he stated he wants to play QB.

My Personal thoughts: This offer was due to Harris in the summer, not a month before signing day. As you guys have mentioned, it's rather comical that Miami waits until Florida State wins a national championship to offer one of their QB commits.

Pretty much

Since no one around here can seem to pull their heads out of their @sses long enough to THINK clearly without foaming at the mouth to b*tch about how stupid AG and the staff is, LETS THINK ABOUT THIS.

Treon is in our backyard. We have had the opportunity to offer him at QB this WHOLE time, but didnt. So what changed????

WHO was suspended for the bowl game and has had a LOT of bad rumors floating around him most of the season?

This isnt about the staff suddenly deciding they love Treon as a QB. This is about Olsen IMO. They think he's flaking out, or maybe even likely to bail, and now we may be looking at taking a 3rd QB in this class because things have CHANGED.

We didnt just suddenly decide that Treon is a great QB, either we struck out with other options and they have an offer and he was next on the board, OR, MORE LIKELY, one of the QBs on our roster is flaking out, and they have decided to try to bring in 3.

The majority of your posts are about how everyone else has their heads up their own asses. Get it together.

It's likely that hardly anyone thinks that this is about the staff "deciding they love Treon as a QB." This is about the staff seeming like they are chasing their own tails (whether true or not). Whether or not it has anything to do with Olsen is irrelevant to what this looks and feels like to the local crew. If you're not going to offer someone like Treon (QB or not) it's because you feel strongly about the situation. If you feel strongly about the situation, you don't alter that stance because there is "some movement" on the roster. This is bigger than the evaluation of a QB.

here's the problem. Golden is deciding to play the game, only way too late. An offer at this point is almost an after-thought and almost offensive to Ice. We didn't think enough of you to offer until you convinced all your friends to follow you to FSU, the most recent National champs.

Yikes

I don't see how we can reach those conclusions without knowing more. Barrow may have been in a good spot with Ice and Treon, having told them that an opportunity is not there now (and we don't want to mislead you by pretending to offer you at QB and never really give you a shot) but, if one develops, we expect to offer you as a QB.

Frankly, given who UM is dealing with here--and I mean that as Ice being someone with respect in the local football community who has had other children come through the program and worked there himself and will have bigtime kids we're recruiting in the future--I'm expecting that the staff would not just carelessly throw out an offer and risk what people on here are assuming. When you add in the Kirkland situation from last year, the staff must have walked on egg shells here.

Until proven otherwise, I'm more inclined to think that these guys thought this one through and had reasons to make the offer knowing that it would not be viewed or received negatively where it counts.

So it is better to not have offered him at all?

Yes, or offer him early like everyone else on the planet that foresaw he might be better suited at DB.

Let's not make it seem like Miami did not foresee that he may be better suited at DB.

Golden's approval rating is at an all time low.

- the straw already broke the camel's back

IMO - If Treon, offered now as QB, comes to Miami, the risk was worth the reward. If he says **** off latecomer, then the I hate Golden crew in the community has gained 1 more point to laugh at. Treon is not the coin on the other side of the scale tilting Golden's fate.

So let me see if I get this straight. It would have been better to NEVER offer him, than to offer him a month before signing day, if this was just politics to keep the locals happy and not to seem like we were disrespecting the kid? KEEPING IN MIND, that they obviously didnt seem to want him at QB very much to begin with.

I look forward to Treon faxing our staff a blank letter of intent on signing day with nothing but a giant smear of **** on it.

Yes.

/unless he commits

I've heard it said that Treon will ONLY take an offer as a QB...correct?

Do we honestly think that the defending National Champions are serious about Treon Harris being a legit starter for a team with annual National Championship aspirations? Have you considered that FSU's offer was probably just a gesture in the first place and that maybe Treon knows it? Maybe FSU can no longer afford the gesture? Something more is up....

What have you been on lately. You used to be a somewhat reasonable poster. You've become a raving nutcase lately.

I'm also hearing Quincy Wilslon will be getting an offer sometime in the next two months.

What do you think are the likely effects of this offer?
