So.. I have friends that are very familiar with Alabama

Given the recruiting landscape and where we’ve been, I’m convinced that the best way for us to get there is through highly competent coaching. Then either the recruits come or we put ourselves in a position to hire someone as a Phase II guy to get us to that next level.
If the last 20 years has proven anything to our dopey fans it should be that we need better coaching to rise above the morass we’ve languished in forever. All this “just get better players” rhetoric is nonsense. We’ve had good enough players to dominate the Coastal, yet we’ve won it once.

Until we can get coaches who can build positive sustained momentum over the course of 4 or 5 straight years (regular 10 win seasons and Coastal titles), we will continue to be trash because the environment around the program is too fragile due to all the losing. Start a season like we have, and things go toxic immediately because fans are so used to spotting bullshyt coaching and underachieving.

We’re not going to sit back for 3 years and get kicked are by crappy teams while we hear “Shanny just needs time to fix the culture” or “Shanny just needs time to teach these kids how to win.”

Miami fans are filled to the brim with that **** and needed something more than what we’ve been given in order to really buy in. You can’t take a team loaded with 4 and 5 stars and go out there and nearly lose to a horrific cmu team full of sloppy trash. You just don’t have that luxury here given what’s transpired for so long with deficient coaching.

I said before the season that Shanny didn’t have the luxury of a ****** season. He had to come in and win 10 and the Coastal at the very least. Build momentum. HE didn’t have to go undefeated or beat Ufayg, but he had to improve the team dramatically from the garbage we saw last year.

What does he do? He hires all his buddies and a completely green defensive staff. Then he lets Enos hire all his loser MAC buddies. We hired a staff full of losers and washouts.

What did Shanny expect to happen when he’s taking a WR coach from Air Force whose been fired everywhere and his next step was out of football entirely? That was a theme not the exception with his hires.

Exactly. We’ve had enough talent to dominate the Coarstal annually yet we’ve only won it one time in 15+ years while other schools in our Division are doing more with less. That’s all coaching. All this “we need better players” crying is irrelevant for step 1 - owning the Coarstal.

What Alabaga and Sabag do is irrelevant here. They’re on a completely different level and have their pick of paid 5 stars every year. We should be more concerned with trying to catch second tier programs like Wisconsin right now.

P. S. LOL at “bowed well.”

Spot on. And it's also quite questionable to believe the Sabag "methods" (even the legal ones) are remotely universally applicable across college football.

If these coaching mantras were transferable then you'd see the Belichick tree coaches not suck in the NFL- a much more even playing field not tied to geography or recruiting/cheating.

Was watching a replay of the Clemson game from 15'...defensively, we were either more or as talented than those MF'ers across the board.

Offensively, I'd say it was a push.

Clemson basically smoked and mirrored us to death

Our second team should win the coastal if we are being honest. When it comes to quality of players.

Recruiting and the coaches expectations of incoming freshman. Saben believes that week’s five and six will tell you everything you need to know about a freshman and his team overall. They recruit with the number one question on their list “can he start by week five” if that freshman has to. Well boys we’re here at home for week five. This week should be the real canary in the coal mine. If these 15 starting underclassman and this team looks great this week, it should bode* well for the rest of this season. If we look lost, I guess we’ll all start planning for 2020, because this season is a wrap. “According to the Nick Saben school of football prognosticating.”
I don’t know much about a “5 Game reckoning” but I have stated ad infinitum, we simply are a bad team.

We are poorly coached and may not have the players we think we have.

Great another Alabama saban thread.
Can he start by game 5 if he had to?
Well if he “has to” then he’s starting regardless if he’s ready or not. Also, you won’t really know if he was ready until after the game anyway.
Plenty of dudes playing on Sunday who weren’t ready to start as a freshman. A lot easier to start as a freshman when the rest if your squad is packed to the **** with blue chip players. Also, you may be ready for game 5 against an fcs school but not ready for a top 10 team.
