JT's one of those kids who probably had one of the higher SAT/ACT scores on the team. You'll come across them, especially if you've ever worked in the school system. He never had an issue with a getting a qualifying score.
His struggles have stemmed largely from lack of attendance and apathy, and it has nothing to do with his tough upbringing in St. Louis or being dealt a crappy hand. It has more to do with the fact that he pretty clearly has some undiagnosed mental issues.
Much like Perry (who also made the honor roll to many people's shock), interviews and behavior can be deceptive.
