SJ Alofaituli- season stats, other interesting stats. Mensah is saving the line

Sad to think coaches are obviously sending out what they deem to be the best OL. So doesn’t say much about the alternatives.
Can scheme around shortcomings in secondary & LB, plus hopefully will get pieces back in the secondary. Not as much up along OL. If we can see bonehead play & missed assignment, then opposing coach are licking their chops.

I hate how slow we are to adjust. Why cant play on the field dictate your PT? You watch the film as a team and theres no accountability? I thought we were building depth? I thought we preach competition. Seems to me like someone was promised a starting job and no matter how they perform, they continue to get the nod. Frustrating.

Pickett, Cantwell, Ervin, Campbell, Wilkerson, Minaya? Nobody is worthy enough to at least challenge SJ? I don't understand how you run a multi million dollar operation, and you are so slow to make any adjustments. Low standards.
We just played for a national title and had one of the best (if not the best) OL in the country in doing so.

I think any rational fan expected a YoY drop off, but to go from elite line play to THIS is truly dumbfounding.

How in the world can supposed OL gurus in Mario and Mirabal think this is acceptable? The interior play (not just SJ but also Rodriguez and to a certain extent Buchanan) has been absolutely deplorable. The scariest parts? 1. We’ve played no one yet. Imagine if it still looks like this vs ND 2. We’ve wasted 3 games on the SJ experience debacle, while Cantwell and Congdon have gotten very few meaningful reps.

This is a potential season derailing problem that needs to be addressed NOW.

The play was designed for Fletch to continue outside, but he was knocked off track because of RR getting his *** whooped. SJ was in perfect position to seal that LB had Fletch stayed outside like the play was intended. Obviously SJ didn’t know RR had just got put on skates and Fletch was forced inside, but the LB did. He immediately had leverage because of that and was able to undercut it and make the play.

Did SJ miss the block? Yeah, but it was a pretty tough block to make after the play was blown up in the first 2 seconds and he had no idea. Plenty of other worthy examples to rag on SJ. I just don’t think this is one. JMO.
how many of our previous transfer centers actually make the play to seal and turn the Dt lined up inside of the guard there?.... He wasn't being asked to drive him out, it clearly looks like he's trying to get around and seal him... There is no way that had any hope of working just purely by the angles... Well maybe if the DT isn't trying to get upfield...

The puller in the majority of the schemes I’ve ever been associated with are “hit different color” stipulations to at least guarantee yourself a positive gain.

How SJ doesn’t see an opposing player flashing in his face is not even comical…it’s sad.

Hey guys, like I told buddy earlier in this thread - I’m not going back & forth with it. He hasn’t been good enough so it’s whatever, ya’ll got it.

Next best option up. Whoever is second behind him, put them in now and let’s deal with the growing pains. SJ is not playable. And could never be with his size. Put somebody with the right size in there and let them grow throughout the season. Let’s not wait until two losses happen before we make the change.

so you're saying enroll 100 NFL free agent OL as students and give them tickets to the game? i like the way you think boss.

The "Ex-Baller Loophole" Graduate & Law Students

  • The Target: Pull registrar records for enrolled graduate students, MBA candidates, or law students who played offensive line at a D2, D3, NAIA, or Ivy League program.
  • The Loophole: If a student played four years at a Division III school (where there are no athletic scholarships) and graduated early with a redshirt year unused, they may still have an active semester remaining on their NCAA 10-semester/5-year clock.
  • Execution: If their eligibility clock hasn't expired and their degree progress transfers into an active graduate degree program at Miami, they can be rostered immediately as a graduate walk-on.

This guy is gonna get Mensah hurt. They are your 10million dollar qb’s protectors. The most important component of this entire team. ****, it could be why Fletcher is hurt. They certainly haven’t made the job our running backs easy.

SJ did show off a surprisingly effective “reverse zone” blocking technique, which is the first time I have ever seen it. He got pushed backwards and sideways so quickly that the defender took himself out of the play, creating a huge running lane for Fletcher.

Obviously the defender was shocked as well. At how bad SJ really is

Fletcher has been running over the whole team to get his yards. Inexcusable to have 3/5 of the line be in this condition.
