Shodell on the morning podcast show

I criticize Mario when he deserves it.

Few things I highly doubt if somebody says is

Mario didn't recruit a kid hard that he wanted

Mario was running country club practices.

Just dont believe it, sorry.

Is Mario a stubborn mule with his ideas?**** yea. Is he the smartest? **** no. But accepting laziness laid back practices? Nope, sorry. Especially coming from Matt. He learned from ferman, they will make **** up for clicks.

Now if he woulda made this claim before the loss happened, then id believe it. But not after the fact.

Wish I would have seen this before I posted my comments. Thanks for summarizing the pod.
It was just that particular portion of the pod.
Ferman and Shodell have been covering the team for a long time. I think Ferman is a goober, but has moments of fair commentary. Shodell can also be a goober, but his takes as related to the football team, I find to be consistently fair and sometimes even really smart. One thing about both of them though is that they still put some merit into journalistic integrity; meaning they put credence into getting a second source beforer reporting something as fact. In todays' race to post crap on X/IG/FB/SnapChat or whatever other social media you use, I find it slightly refreshing to see some folks can still pause before rushing to misreport things.

Ok back to my sad little corner to sit and be sad.

TrumpyCane thinks this a top 3 called offense by Dawson in his 3 years here so far

What happened to the aggressive play calling we saw in the 4th from this game

Wow. That offense was refreshing to watch.

No bunched formations. Running off tackle

Whether or not his source is right or if this is nonsense, how can anyone argue they’ve decided to play a certain conservative, predictable way?
We play at a snail pace . Some by design and some because Beck does a lot of pre snap stuff running the clock down to 1 - 2 seconds every play. Cam was more of a slide the protection and go guy. Tbh I’ve heard some of the same stuff including there was an obvious lack of juice on the field in pregame. As you said some of what he said is pretty obvious if you trust what you’re watching on game days. We’re trying to run the time out rather than going for the kill. I posted in the off season this offense would look night and day different. Far more conservative than last year. The D would be better and the offense had to take a step back.

I believe some of that but doubt the country club rumor.

The offense is obvious. I actually think protecting your depth on D, especially #3 and #4 is wise because we'll need them and it's a long season. It's not a terrible strategy but Mario doesn't know when to turn it off when the team needs to just go out and score points.

I doubt the Beck rumors are fully true because being uncoachable is a sure fire way not to get drafted, regardless of what you show on the field. If Kirby smart and Mario are both telling NFL scouts that Carson is uncoachable, he's not getting a high draft grade. But I definitely know Carson wants to reverse the narrative around him and get back into the early first round conversation so he's taking shots he shouldn't be taking..we can see that on the field.
The strategy is backfiring, the offense is actually going 3 and out. At least last season the O would score. The defense is getting less rest regardless.

I agree with this but there is one thing that just doesn’t correlate with me and Mario:

The Penalties.

I don’t understand it. He never punishes people for them. It hasn’t improved. It kills us in the games.

They haven’t fixed the line jumping every time the defensive line moves/shifts.

Boom!! 5 yards.

"Cam was an alpha QB who wasn’t having non of that bs, and basically did a Peyton Manning and ran his own offense."

To be fair....that's just message board fan fantasy.

Cam was the best QB in the country and we had a plecera of WR's and a first round talent TE. A blind man could see that was the way to go with Cam at QB and the group of receivers. So Mario let it play that way.
If we had a Cam clone and the same number if receivers and TE he would let it play that way again. JMO
Fair criticism is why he hasn't recruited at thise spots well enough that he has to revert back to the more conservative way.
Cam basically changed most of the plays before the snap.. like that was something we always saw last year. Along with the fact he’s a great improviser.

There’s been insiders that have said he was doing it too

1000% believe Mario told Dawson this

It’s clear as day we’re playing a slower, beat up the opponent style that Mario has told us he loves.

Cam was an alpha QB who wasn’t having non of that bs, and basically did a Peyton Manning and ran his own offense.

I know Dawson is praying for any job at this point, at the end of the year to get away from this man
Last year was basically a repeat of what Golden did with Fisch. We ran a lot of tempo and depended on the offense since they knew the defense was an issue. Anyone with eyes can see we’re very conservative this season .

Since I’ve been skimming though the game Beck had guys wide open left and right and missed them. Especially in the flats . Even on one pick Toney was gone and he under throws it by 10 yards. We just got the Beck experience. He’s the John Statks of qb’ing. He’ll shoot you into a game or shoot you out. The ultimate wild card.

Yes he was given the power to call audibles.
Because he was that good.

Consider the source. I’ve said many times, some of ya’ll take these clowns way too seriously.
You do understand Shodell has to attend press conferences and face this staff. You think he's going to create bull**** knowing he has to see this staff face to face.Just because the news is disappointing and bothers us,don't mean it's not true.

theres a step back and theres light years back. this is worse than the tvd 2023 offense. that one was at least top 25 w a INT prone broken QB.

this is barely average at best with a QB who was mostly fine up until Friday

The malpractice was getting in a situation were Beck was the only option left and you were lucky to has him

This.

It’s been the theme all season. You do not play ball control at the expense of points. Trust your defense and put points on the board. Besides, Louisville not only put more points on us but they won the time of possession. SMH.
Well they got 4 extra possessions thanks to Carson Beck
