Can the Bengals? The Jags, Ravens, and Packers were able to get it out of their R1 picks. Lets see if the Bengals can do it.

Agreed. Not disagreeing but I think Gary played a lot of DT in college I also remember him getting triple teamed in college lol. Just crazy how Gary reshaped his body into an edge

Let’s see how quick that sh*t sours when Shemar don’t want to break off a piece of every check and realizes he’s just fine on his own. It’s not like he had him since he was a boy. He said seven years. That’s prob right about when it was known this kid had immense talent.

Responsibilities change a lot for these guys going into the NFL. A lot of them played DE in an odd front defense in college and don’t get a many pass rush reps on the edge as they do in the league.

A big part of it is that the NFL is just different football. For one thing, there’s more passing. Esp if you’re coming from the SEC or BIG. Secondly, there’s a lot less deigned QB runs. You can tee off on a guy in the pocket a lot more.

Shamar still needs to develop some pass rush moves to be an effective pass rusher but he wouldn’t be the first guy to be more productive in the NFL than he was in school

Absolutely. Good post.

NFL and College game a very different these days.

A guy like Shemar Stewart is asked to anchor a lot and play a lot of heavy 5, 6, and 4i. In the NFL they will have him play more 6, 7. Yes, less designed runs in the NFL but the bootlegs and pocket movement make it so a guy like Stewart can chase these dudes down with the athleticism when they break the pocket (Travon Walker does this a lot and while he doesn't always finish, he's disrupting plays) and disrupt.

Nope not at all.

All 1st round contracts are slotted based on pick selection. They're all 4 years with a 5th year option & the amount of guaranteed money, signing bonuses & incentives are already predetermined by draft position.

There's nothing to negotiate; its already agreed upon by the CBA.

My guess is he didn't wanna get drafted by Cincinnati in the first place & he's just being difficult because he can.

Yeah The only thing to haggle over is primarily WHEN the signing bonus gets paid. Just cause it's a signing bonus doesn't mean it's literally all paid like right away.... The only other main thing is maybe fighting about Offset language to prevent players from double-dipping if they end up cut before contract is over. (so you keep all your guaranteed payment from 1st team and whatever new contract you sign).

I will say that the ONLY benefit of the doubt whatsoever you can give in this situation is that the Bengals are pretty notorious for penny-pinching and being kinda cash-poor and basically not negotiating all that well.. So I could absolutely see the Bengals not wanting to pay a large Signing Bonus ASAP and instead have a payment plan or something. Also they would certainly not waive any offset language....

But yeah it's just pointless drama to pull that kinda stunt.

I have the feeling this will be just one of many more Stewart holdouts.
