Shemar Stewart

Text I received when Stewart was heading out to the stage after being picked:

Cincinnati drafted a pool table

With that getup and after he put on the Bengals cap...*technically* we finally got him in Orange and Green.

I wouldnt be surprised if in some years we hear the story of how shady that moe guy is. He just comes off as a guy who is sheisty and saw a prized recruit as a vulnerable young kid and saw his meal ticket. And now he’s his ā€œfatherā€, he’s definitely gonna feel entitled to a lot of bread.

Unhhhh in some years? Lol

This is how you know there are some NFL teams that don't watch film and draft almost exclusively on measurables and the eye test. This guy had just 4 1/2 sacks in 680 pass-rush snaps over three seasons.
But it’s SEC competition, so you know it’s tough to get through those lines of scrimmage with ultra athletic QBs. Ha! Unreal that the kid has been on a roster that long and managed to be so silent and yet he still gets drafted in the first round.

The scouts don’t take into fact his good run defense, his effort, The scheme he played at ATM which isn’t pass rush friendly or his age. Just sack numbers
If he played DT rather than DE, your comments would have significantly more value. 4.5 sacks over 3 years is bad for an Edge. While it is indeed fair to point out run defense and effort, let's make sure we are also making mention of the plays he takes off and his disappearing acts.

Travon Walker had 9 career sacks at UGA over 3 years. He has 24 in the NFL through 3 seasons including two 10 sack seasons.
Odafe Oweh had 7 career sacks at Penn State, including 0 in his junior year. He has 23 through 4 seasons, including a 10 sack season.
Rashan Gary had 10 sacks at Michigan. He has 39 sacks so far, including beating his previous best at Michigan (6 sacks) 4 times in his 6 year career.

Superfreak athletes at EDGE that have some pre-reqs like athleticism and run defense...the NFL thinks they can get them to be better sack artists with better scheme, better role, etc. It works sometimes.

I think Stewart is pretty good...I think he's got a relatively high floor as a run defender and athlete. The upside is the sack total...the NFL thinks they can get this out of guys like Stewart. Can the Bengals? The Jags, Ravens, and Packers were able to get it out of their R1 picks. Lets see if the Bengals can do it.

That's not his dad? That's kind of weird. But so is this board's fascination with Shemar and this guy. Between Stewart and Shedeur, there's little Canes discussion on here and too much with dudes that have little if any connection to us.
Considering how Moe tried to get all sorts of free stuff from us during Stewart's recruitment, discussing him here is understandable.

Besides, would you rather discuss the inevitable coaching vs talent or how bad will we suck this year discussion that plays out every offseason?

Sacks aint the only way to look at EDGE production either. Stewart created more pressures than Travon Walker in college too. And honestly A&M doesn’t run a very good defense for racking up sacks I feel like. All their EDGEs/DL in general underproduced sack wise…
