she quoted a Herald tweet stating that Loria is claiming he didn't make any $$ on the sale of the Marlins. Shalala said "for this they forced us out of the Orange Bowl. Outrageous!"

GTFOH Donna. You were all about the $$ and moving to that stadium. It made financial sense for the school at the time.. Stick to your guns and stop trying to appease us fans now.

You, and the people like you, are ignorant buffoons.

Dade County, and the people of Dade County, had already gone to the polls and APPROVED the bond measure to fund the Orange Bowl renovations.

The City of Miami had a SIGNED CONTRACT with Hammes, which the City of Miami paid over a million dollars to break.

The Latin Builders Association freaked the fvck out when the contract was awarded to an out-of-state company, and they were cut out of lucrative sub-contracts.

It's only a bunch of uninformed nutjobs who continue to push the false narrative that Donna Shalala is to blame for the Orange Bowl. For decades, under multiple UM presidents, the City of Miami broke its promises over and over and over again.

Shalala did not sign a deal with Joe Robbie Stadium until AFTER the City of Miami screwed UM over one final and monstrous time.

Look, if you're going to continue to repeat a lie, why don't you GET SPECIFIC about the specific actions that Shalala took. I will be happy to destroy your flimsy campaign of hatred and disinformation.

None of this makes Shalala the best UM president ever, or the greatest proponent of UM sports ever. But it's honesty. Shalala didn't do anything (or fail to do anything) that led to the destruction of the Orange Bowl. That is SOLELY on the City of Miami and the Latin Builders Association. Those are facts.

At the end of the day you may be correct about the city and the validity of their promises BUT Lil' Donna hardly put up ANY fight let alone the proper campaign that could've been waged by the UM public relations machine. Instead she opted for the path of least resistance and the immediate payday- something she did in many other aspects of her presidency too.

"Shalala called the city's effort "extraordinary," but wondered if remodeling was worthwhile.

"Is it appropriate for the University of Miami, a private university, to ask the people, the taxpayers of the city, to spend $200 million on six games a year?" Shalala asked.

Ultimately, that answer was no."

You're asking people with an IQ that's around 70 on a good day to explain themselves on this topic. It's a lost cause. Facts are true whether people want to believe them or not. The hatred towards her is based on her politics.

Yes, the City of Miami screwed that up. I'm not arguing that. My point is that Shalala had no problem with ultimately moving to JRS because it was the best business decision for the University. I never said it was her fault. My point is that she is expressing this fake outrage now, but she was on board with the move.

Lol at that **** Clown Troll Shalololol opining about Loria. She is just as big a crook as that scum bag.

Look, quite simply, it is NOT THE JOB of the UM "public relations machine" to wage a campaign on behalf of a city-owned building. People want to rip Donna for overpaying for a batch of hospitals, and then act like she was supposed to spend UM's resources on something that we don't even own.

And her comment is accurate, even though it is one of those "after the **** hits the fan, let's put a good face on it" quotes. It is NOT THE JOB of a private university to ask taxpayers to spend that money. It was the CITY OF MIAMI'S JOB to ask that question. And the voters answered "Yes". And the scumbag City of Miami politicians ignored the voters.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks a "public relations campaign" would have changed anything. THE VOTERS VOTED IN FAVOR OF ORANGE BOWL RENOVATIONS. What would have TRULY been needed was the outright purchase of a bunch of Miami politicians and a bullet to the head of Jeffrey Loria.

So, yeah, for not bribing politicians and for not murdering Loria, I blame Donna.

At the end of the day you're saying that the taxpayers approved something, the scumbag local political machine derailed it and Donna just shrugged her shoulders and was like "Oh well. It's not my yob to fight this or ever seek the appropriation of public monies for my private entity as that'd be unseemly."

C'mon, bro. She was a lifelong politician. All SHE KNOWS is securing taxpayer dollars for things. But NOW she was going to die on the hill of fiscal responsibility for the precious Miami-Dade taxpayer?

Again, I'm not disputing anything you say about the scumbag local political hacks but this was also a fight that Donna obviously had ZERO interest in waging and she jumped at the first easy way out and the $2 mil in yearly revenue or whatever Ross was promising.

I got a perfect score on the reading comprehension section of the LSAT. Reading comprehension actually is my strong suit.

But you are whining like a little *****. Donna Shalala, with absolutely no negotiating leverage whatsoever (Orange Bowl being torn down, Coral Gables blocking ALL CONSTRUCTION on UM campus at the time) managed to get us more money in Joe Robbie than we were getting in the Orange Bowl.

You're whining because she didn't publicly shed tears? Because she took the sh!itty hand she was dealt and managed to get us more money?

There are so many people on this board who have no clue about reality, about facts, about what really happened with the Orange Bowl for decades. But, sure, we were supposed to conduct a "public relations campaign". Or Donna was supposed to wear sackcloth and ashes and publicly mourn for a year.

UM got screwed by the City of Miami, the city whose name we proudly bear even though we are in Coral Gables. Some of you curse Donna's name daily because of her political background, yet scream that she didn't do enough (politically) to reverse decades of the City of Miami ignoring UM's needs with the Orange Bowl.

It's never enough. BE SPECIFIC about what you think Donna Shalala "should have done". It's just ridiculous. The voters voted, and the politicians still screwed US ALL over. And Donna made the best deal she could, with zero alternatives.

Just stop the bullsh!te. If you want to hate Donna for 100 other reasons, fine. But the Orange Bowl issue is a joke.

I don't blame her for leaving the OB. I know it was the City's fault. Why the fake outrage now?

Frenk is probably more liberal personally than Shalala so the blanket argument that all Donna vitriol is politically based doesn't hold water. Sure, it's obviously a factor with some (as it is with some of her defenders) but it's certainly not an end-all-be-all.

And to keep poo-poo'ing any validity in the University of Miami having political and public relations sway when it WANTS to exercise it is disingenuous at best.

I'm personally checking out of this one though as it's about the 1000th time this topic has been broached. Shame on Donna for bringing it back up just to serve he current and never-ending political ambitions. Thank God (and Stevie Ross), we finally have a real stadium.

I don't blame her for leaving the OB. I know it was the City's fault. Why the fake outrage now?

It's not fake outrage. Shalala, better than anyone, knows that Loria worked behind the scenes to derail the Orange Bowl renovations because he wanted that site.

And I'm not sure how old you are (not an insult), but I lived in Miami at the time, and it was horrible how much the Marlins Stadium "numbers" were faked, from "omitting" the cost of the parking garages to the fake claims that if the Marlins were given a sweetheart deal and allowed to keep most of the revenue, they would finally be profitable enough to spend money on payroll.

So what Shalala's "outrage" is directed towards is the litany of LIES told by Loria to get the OB site, which was supposed to be HUGELY profitable for him, and for which the City of Miami literally fvcked the voters in the ar$e for, and now Loria claims he is only "breaking even".

You may hate Shalala, but her outrage is actually accurate. Loria is a disgusting snake who worked behind the scenes to defeat the will of the Dade County voters, and now he acts like he never made a dime off the Marlins.

I have no problems with Shalala's comments. She is right, even if you don't like her.
