Shalala sounding off on Twitter about the Marlins' sale...

Frenk is probably more liberal personally than Shalala so the blanket argument that all Donna vitriol is politically based doesn't hold water. Sure, it's obviously a factor with some (as it is with some of her defenders) but it's certainly not an end-all-be-all.

And to keep poo-poo'ing any validity in the University of Miami having political and public relations sway when it WANTS to exercise it is disingenuous at best.

I'm personally checking out of this one though as it's about the 1000th time this topic has been broached. Shame on Donna for bringing it back up just to serve he current and never-ending political ambitions. Thank God (and Stevie Ross), we finally have a real stadium.

It's not a question of liberal. Bernie Sanders is liberal, but people don't blame him for everything that goes wrong at UM.

It is Donna's long-time association with the Clintons. And, yes, "hating" the Clintons is very political.

Also, please go back and re-read what I wrote. I am not saying that UM does not have political and PR sway. I am saying two things, and both are valid. First, you don't use your "public relations machine" to jump into issues where you have no ownership. And second, even if I agreed with you, IT JUST DIDN'T MATTER. From a public relations standpoint, the public vote to renovate the Orange Bowl was a smashing success. It passed.

Again, as I have asked of others, BE SPECIFIC about what Shalala could have or should have done to prevent a handful of Miami politicians from spurning a SIGNED CONTRACT WITH HAMMES. The deal was done. The deal was signed. The Latin Builders Association and Jeffrey Loria worked behind the scenes to pressure Miami politicians to incur millions of dollars in legal fees and penalties to repudiate a SIGNED CONTRACT.

Just BE SPECIFIC about how anyone, or any "public relations machine", can change THAT ONE FACT.

LOL Frenk is more liberal. Even if it were true, the fact that Shalala was in Clinton's cabinet and ran the Clinton Foundation supersedes any perceived ideology. People on here have a far more generic way of comparing the two.

I always laugh when conservatives criticize "liberalism" in Miami, as if that will change anything.

Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County are so liberal and populous that they are capable of tilting a statewide Florida election to a Democrat even if a Republican wins every other county.

The University of Miami leadership is liberal and has been for quite some time.

The University of Miami student body is liberal and has been for quite some time.

I realized this when I was a student at UM and was active in College Republicans.

And yet some people are going to come to this board and rip Donna for her politics. Hilarious.

I already said I'm checking out of this one, bro. We've gone down this road (way past the questions you're posing now) a thousand times on here.

I'm not trying to be rude either so I'll answer your question for a specific action she could've done but then I really am out of this debate.

- Donna could've immediately gone public in a very loud and outraged manner (kinda like if she was running for a political office) and said "The ONLY home for University of Miami Football is the Orange Bowl and the taxpayers of Miami-Dade County have agreed. We WILL NOT and CANNOT explore any other options- especially ones that are 25 miles from campus. The renovation of the Orange Bowl is vital to the continued existence of University of Miami Football not only at an elite level but in general too and I look forward to the local elected officials working with me and the university to carry out the wishes of this community."

She then could've used all of the school's might to turn this into a very public battle between UM Football and Jeffrey Loria and general local political corruption while continuing to insist that it'd be ludicrous to ask us to play in a stadium so far away from campus.

Again, this was obviously a battle she didn't see worth waging even against a foe that was already hated like Loria or one easily exposed like the local political machine.

This has nothing to do with Shalala & good for her for turning up the heat on him. His deal if he sold the team was to pay 5% back to city/county on his big profits which he's now claiming (through some funny business accounting firm) that he didn't make a profit....HELLO? This will end up in court if he doesn't man up and do what he agreed to do in the beginning. He'll be more than happy to stick the taxpayers with whatever he can.

Uninformed fans that like to hate disliked Tad Foote and Shalala. I guess Frank will someday be hated by uninformed immature forum fans.

she quoted a Herald tweet stating that Loria is claiming he didn't make any $$ on the sale of the Marlins. Shalala said "for this they forced us out of the Orange Bowl. Outrageous!"

GTFOH Donna. You were all about the $$ and moving to that stadium. It made financial sense for the school at the time.. Stick to your guns and stop trying to appease us fans now.

You, and the people like you, are ignorant buffoons.

Dade County, and the people of Dade County, had already gone to the polls and APPROVED the bond measure to fund the Orange Bowl renovations.

The City of Miami had a SIGNED CONTRACT with Hammes, which the City of Miami paid over a million dollars to break.

The Latin Builders Association freaked the fvck out when the contract was awarded to an out-of-state company, and they were cut out of lucrative sub-contracts.

It's only a bunch of uninformed nutjobs who continue to push the false narrative that Donna Shalala is to blame for the Orange Bowl. For decades, under multiple UM presidents, the City of Miami broke its promises over and over and over again.

Shalala did not sign a deal with Joe Robbie Stadium until AFTER the City of Miami screwed UM over one final and monstrous time.

Look, if you're going to continue to repeat a lie, why don't you GET SPECIFIC about the specific actions that Shalala took. I will be happy to destroy your flimsy campaign of hatred and disinformation.

None of this makes Shalala the best UM president ever, or the greatest proponent of UM sports ever. But it's honesty. Shalala didn't do anything (or fail to do anything) that led to the destruction of the Orange Bowl. That is SOLELY on the City of Miami and the Latin Builders Association. Those are facts.

Thank You. The people who blame DS for the OB fiasco has no idea how the city of Miami works. One of the worst, corrupt city governments on earth. I'm glad loria juiced their greedy corrupt ***.#bannarepublic

Nah, A lot more people than Shalala could/should have made noise..

Alums, BOT(real clout), former president (Tad!), student govt., politicians, and the community at large... Shalala just came to campus and the city, but everyone expects her to lead this charge while longstanding and deep-seeded members of the community never put up a meaningful fight?

What about a former President applying the all the []_[]'s "might" during decades of domination before handing the incoming president a dilapidated stadium in a political quagmire? The []_[] and the city **** the bed long before Donna got there, because it should have never even come to that in the first place...

It's beyond ignorant in the manner that people carry on with this nonsense. Your suggestion is ridiculous!

Come again.

You're asking people with an IQ that's around 70 on a good day to explain themselves on this topic. It's a lost cause. Facts are true whether people want to believe them or not. The hatred towards her is based on her politics.

Are you sure the IQ isn't lower.instead gripping on a board about what elected official screwed who.why don't you go show your disapproval in the next election.votes do sway an elected official on the decisions they make.then again no other college team plays in a venue like ours.

At the end of the day you may be correct about the city and the validity of their promises BUT Lil' Donna hardly put up ANY fight let alone the proper campaign that could've been waged by the UM public relations machine. Instead she opted for the path of least resistance and the immediate payday- something she did in many other aspects of her presidency too.

"Shalala called the city's effort "extraordinary," but wondered if remodeling was worthwhile.

"Is it appropriate for the University of Miami, a private university, to ask the people, the taxpayers of the city, to spend $200 million on six games a year?" Shalala asked.

Ultimately, that answer was no."

Miami Hurricanes Leaving Orange Bowl - washingtonpost.com

Thank you. She was too busy overpaying for hospitals to worry about our home. This doe nothing to remove the blame form the politicians, they are whores, but she needed to put saving the OB at top of her list. The success of the football program is what face The U the brand to become known worldwide. .

She only got tough when they hit her with lack of institutional control. It’s was to defend herself. Prior to that she banned former players, gave up Bowl game that cost us division and acc title game, and restricted recruiting voluntarily. PSU and the NCAA paying the little rat’s attorney saved us not her belated selfdefense letter. Now she is a nobody trying to get some attention.

Dang. I posted a thread about that and completely forgot about it. That is why she tweeted it. Trying to rewrite her history and get her name out for free. If she wins, the Clintons will be selling influence with her, since they don’t have any anyplace else any more. It will be pennies not millions, but crooks be crooks.

Tad put forth reasoned and sane discussion and you reply with insult. And just because Foote was a idiot jacka** does not excuse Donna. He did his best to destroy the football program with an administration centered NCAA scandal. Butch save it. Donna was a more effective executioner but hopefully Mark will again save it.

Our new guy Has the same liberal politics, probably, but I think is more driven by the chance that “his” football team will embarrass the gringos running the other universities. Regardless of his reasons, he has been strong, much stronger than I expected and now is clearly my favorite UM president ever. Bar was as low as it could be but he cleared nicely.

Let me understand this, your defense of the witch is that politicians, who she spent a lifetime being in bed with, are crooked and, or, stupid. Aside from the “American” liberal political reasons why the destruction of our football program was desired, her association with the Clintons raises the question, did our local corrup politicians share the payoff with her? Certainly a clintonita like her knew how that game is played. Granted it is possible she is not a crook and merely a devotee for political faith reasons, but still shouldn’t the money be followed?

So, whemthe new ownership proposes to move the team, does the university then pay up to get out of their lease with hard rock? Then try to take over the new stadium and move back?
