Senior Bowl Week

It’s frustrating we ended 7-6 when you look at the guys headed to the pros. LT, Cohen, Kam, Lee, JW. They aren’t the 2000 Canes but they were certainly good enough to win a lot more games. How many other ACC teams will have 5 guys get drafted.
Typically your Day 3 guys are depth pieces. We don't have enough high end talent.

Was that a good rep???

@Memnon @Brooklyndee @gogeta4 @Coach Macho

I am no DB expert so educate me and I am not trying to be negative on Cam but it was a wheel route in which he let the receiver beat him inside vs forcing the receiver to the boundary/sideline. A better throw (especially in a game where he would have no safety help on the inside) and that’s a long completion.
That's not a Wheel route, it's an Out & Up route. And yes it was a very good rep.

- He's playing to inside leverage
- Didn't get beat on the Out fake
- Shifted his feet & flipped his hips to close the distance on the Up/Fade
- Stayed in stride
- Got chest to chest to make a play on the ball

The QB on the route is supposed to throw to the outside shoulder because it's an Out & Up that's fading to the sideline, so Kam actually played it correctly & almost got the pick.

It's not an inside route so the ball wasn't thrown to the inside. If it was a Post, then yes it would've been a bad play, but Kam actually out-positioned the WR to the sideline & beat him to the ball.

Thanks for clarification/education on the route.

Much appreciate the analysis especially the part on where his job is to out position the receiver to the sideline.

From one of the scouts watching and commenting on what he saw...

  1. S Kamren Kinchens, Miami
Kinchens looked like the best safety on the field in Mobile. It's only one day, but his status as the top-ranked safety in this year's draft class may not come into question.
He showcased his versatility in man coverage, as a deep safety, or filling the alley in the run game. That versatility on the back end should continue to appear throughout the week.

Exactly. Difference makers. Look at the top elite teams year in and year out. They are good up front, but they have different makers. First round draft picks at key positions. Want to know why Clemson has fallen off some? Trevor Lawrence-DJ/Klubnik how about Mike Williams/Tee Higgins or Adam Randall, Beaux Collins? Travis Etienne or Will Shipley? Christian Wilkins or Tyler Davis?

These other players are solid players, maybe drafted rounds 4-7, but not the 1st-2nd round difference makers they used to have.

Look at Alabama's WR when they won NC's..Jeudy, Ruggs, Smith, Waddle...look at this years group with Burton, Brooks, Benson..just no comparison.

4-7 round picks don't move the needle quite enough, but when Miami starts getting elite again you will see more 1st round picks, more top 70 picks.

Man the way he broke on that out and then the ability to quickly adjust and get in the correct position on the up was impressive as ****.

NOW HE WANTS TO PLAY LB!?

WHAT THE ****…

Did he say he wants to? I'm not being argumentative, but maybe enough scouts have suggested it and finally got through to him. Also, our safety depth here sucked, so who is to say our coaches weren't comfortable leaving him there? He wasn't passed on the depth chart, Best option at the position, so why would they want to move him here?

Off head he can play for Baltimore, Dallas who have similar players to him in Kearse and Hamilton.

With the advent of these beastly tight ends him having some ability to cover them and mix it up tackling a bit may keep him a middle round guy.

Need to run 4.7 or better and have solid bench numbers.
I'll take him in Dallas

You make great points.

+ Yes, the safety depth sucked.
+ He was the best SS on the roster.
+ He played well last year enough to make himself a target for the NFL

Now for my counter-points -

+ An NFL-caliber LB (which is what he is) would’ve made the defense better on front 7
+ Him moving to LB when he was initially approached by the new staff would’ve allowed them time to find a replacement in the portal.

Kam is going to have a lot of CIS disappointed when he gets drafted in the 1st round...
