Same game

youre right Rell ..... he is out of position as a LB (VERY undersized) .... he played S in HS

I mean I’m older, but I’m still fairly young. Lol.

I remember watching his Hudl film & a couple gents here saw him play live & we talked him up bout being a really good S here, like the heir to JJ’s spot. Then this season, I see him as a WLB & I was confused, legit. I don’t recall him playing any LB in HS. I do recall him coming down in the box, but he looked more like natural S than anything. The S that looked like a LB was Amari Carter; I didn’t see any hip flexibility or ball skills, just a thumper. Yet, we’ve kept him at S.

I dunno man. Maybe I just missed something last season.

Relly, you are right on, Bro .... the kid is way out of position and has no size as a LB. he is a natural S . more evidence that Canes have a clown
coaching staff from top to bottom that don't know their *** from a box of rice krispies.

the reason he is there is because Mandy and his merry men have done a crap job of recruiting top quality LBs for the last 3 years and Miami
is very thin at that position.

Pretty sure he was a safety , then eventually moved to striker here. Then lb.

Man, I’m just not understanding the move, bro. If anything, have him as a Striker, but playing WLB at his size, and he’s never played that position before, that’s a tough adjustment.

TvD has had snaps twice now, and both times he doesn’t look like he belongs on the field. He throws and looks like an uncalibrated robot. I think the next time King is out, Jake should get an opportunity.

I don't know why Carter plays over Frierson.

At this point I'm about getting your best 11 players on the field. Smith is obviously way too small to play LB in the NFL, but this is College. He can run and that's exactly what we need at LB.

- where our supposed weaknesses are weren’t as bad as I expected. I expected Bama to run it down our throats and they didn’t. Kudos to our front 7 I think they showed up to a certain extent.

- back to coaching…. It’s sick when our players aren’t even lined up in a football stance pre snap because they want to look cool. On the red zone play where Cam Latu shook Keontra he was literally just standing straight up scratching his nuts pre snap. This is pop Warner level ****. BEND YOUR KNEES AND GET IN A FOOTBALL STANCE!!!

- it’s one thing to not have the same jimmy and Joe’s (this is a topic for another day) but it’s another to continue to be unprepared. Game in and game out.
Agreed on the front seven. They were able to at least get pressure on pass plays and had numerous chances to stuff runs for negative yards but the garbage tackling hurt them too much. When the whole defensive game plan is predicated on getting the opponent behind the sticks on early downs, you can’t just allow them to break tackles and turn negative plays into a and 5 yard gains. A lot of people mentioned “finishing plays” as a key for the defense and they failed in that aspect.

Remember the bowl game and how the O looked when Perry came in? Now I am not saying Perry was better than King, a better leader, or anything like that. What I am saying is certain systems need a certain kind of QB. I am not convinced, at all, that King can see the field well enough to be what the O needs. We need someone that can identify what's going on and get the ball out. King seems to either need to wait until a throwing lane opens, or just tosses it out wide for a 3 yard gain. **** near everything downfield is simply a deep ball, and a prayer for a PI. His inability to stretch the field leads to a **** near impossible situation running the ball. Him running for his life to find a throwing lane is also hard to watch. I got a laugh out of them saying he's 5'11".

As for our backups, time will tell. I can't say TVD did or didn't show me anything. A few plays in garbage time mean nothing to me. This leads me to my next point. We need our backup QBs to get serious, serious game time this year. If King can not get us leads to the point the backups can get in, he's not what we need. I know that sounds harsh, but to date he has not been the QB we all thought we were getting. He is nowhere near a Heisman candidate. He was electric at Houston playing Houston's schedule, but this is big boy ball. So far he is just another of Manny Diaz's offseason portal "wins".

That being said, he'll always have my admiration for what he did to FSU last year.
You make a good point about King not being the right QB for this offence - he can't consistently make those RPO reads / throws over the middle due to his height. I wish he'd pull it more on those Read Option plays too - he has legs and teams are starting to ignore him as a threat.

That said I think you're doing him a disservice by calling him a 'Diaz offseason portal win'. He's a very good College QB and he's been a very safe pair of hands for us at QB.

Tackling was the worst. It cost us numerous stops which led to more points. Possibly the worst tackling display I have seen as a fan. We make tackles, we make a few more stops, and while we still don't win, it's a far closer game. And why did we continue to try and run it up the middle???

This was the same game as Clemson and UNC last year. Or LSU in 2018. Nothing felt different. Forget the opponent for a second. We didn't play well. The takeaway for the rest of the country is that Manny can’t compete in these games. There is no evidence otherwise.

On to specifics:

- The physicality gap was expected, but still deflating. The two plays that stick out to me are Navaughn Donaldson getting spun into Cam Harris and Will Mallory getting bullied into Rambo on a bubble screen. Men against boys.

- The area that scares me the most going forward is our pass rush. No length or explosiveness. We relied heavily on blitzing Amari Carter and he was handled by their RBs. Overall, Bama toyed with our blitzes. It’s a cruel joke that the one position where we were top-level (DE) goes barren right before we play Bama.

- Giving back the Turnover Chain down a million was a low point in the history of the program. Either shelve the chain or put on a point limit where we can’t give it away.

- This loss cannot beat us twice. App State and Michigan State are coming down with confidence and momentum. They expect to win and they can. Bama openers can ruin seasons. Ask FSU and Louisville. We need to respond like we did last year after Clemson, or this season can become a nightmare real fast.

- I saw a national 247 guy say this on Twitter and it’s true—the simplicity of Lashlee’s offense is great when Miami has a talent advantage, but gets exposed against equal or superior talent.

- Bama will blow out almost everyone this year. The front seven is NFL, Young can run their offense and their two transfers (Williams and Too’Too) are difference makers. The rest of our schedule is playing a different sport.

- Stevenson and Couch are the two starting corners going forward. They were two of the only guys who competed physically.

- Given the enormous talent disadvantage, the OL competed better than I thought upon rewatch. The major exception is Navaughn Donaldson. He had no balance or bend and was the cause of the majority of our negative plays. He has no chance of going pro this year so he may as well do some Yoga and come back.

- Don Chaney needs to be the starter going forward. He’s gotten even bigger. If he doesn’t get hurt during his dominant spring, he would have been the bellcow already. He’s healthy now.

- Justice Oluwaseun looks like a good pickup. He moved very well in space and he has some pop. He knocked a moving target on a Cam screen and knocked over Will Anderson while looking for work. He needs to start somewhere.

- The talent gap was most profound at LB. Miami can’t be Miami without Miami LBs. Even a guy like Shaq would’ve made a huge difference—when he tackled guys, they stayed tackled. The one guy who did flash true talent was Keontra Smith. He will be even better against smaller teams.

- Jalen Rivers, Xavier Restrepo, James Williams , Andres Borregales and Kam Kinchens all flashed. Kinchens was very physical and actually knocked back #4 on a blitz to force an incompletion. I want to see Leonard Taylor going forward. I get playing older, bigger DL against Bama, but don’t keep a 5* talent sulking on the bench against the rest of the schedule.

- King looked about 90%. The opponent had something to do with it. Interested to see how he looks next week. TVD has had very limited opportunities but has yet to flash. I would love to see some Garcia during this homestand. Obviously, too early to judge either guy.

- The tackling has dropped off considerably since 16-19. I don’t know why. Losing elite tacklers like Shaq and Jaquan Johnson hurt, but it shouldn’t be this drastic.

- Zion Nelson played a good, clean game but I still think he should come back. His strength isn’t all the way there yet if he’s going to be a first round, instant NFL starter. In fact, everyone on our line should come back except Jarrid Williams.

Overall, it sucked. Nothing to get excited about. Best case, this is an exhibition game which showed us the level we need to reach. Worst case, it ruins our season and we kill our home crowd the next two weeks. See you at the Rock on Saturday.
They don’t hit enough in practice. Only way to get better at tackling is actual tackling.

Nobody is reaching Alabama's level period. This is a professional program in the college game. They spend unlimited resources in essentially one sport. Assistants leave and they replace with 2 former NFL head coaches. Bama isn't losing a game this year. Not even sure they are going to be challenged.

I'll reserve comment on our ends when they don't go against 2 future 1st round tackles.

That being said. I expected us to compete in the first half. We did not. Where was all the motion pre-snap? Lashlee is a charlatan. Btw, he leaves SMU and they did not lose a beat offensively.

For me, the next 2 games will determine if we will compete in conference.

James should be fired now. Larranaga should have been canned and son of Mr Tomato should be on the clock. Diaz better be on the clock my friend.

1. Hire Dan Enos away from Bama
2. Land Phillips, Bolden et al from the portal
3. Fire Dan Enos after a poor performance
3. Hire Lashlee
4. Demote Baker (who leaves to be LB coach at LSU) and Rumph for poor performance
5 Hire Travis Williams, Ish and TRob and Shoop.
6. Land a **** good 2021 class and another batch of portal kids

I’d say there are lots of signs he can be a decent HC. And I was in the camp of wanting to fire Blake James for not doing a proper search so I’m no Manny apologist. And if he doesn’t find a Top 5 DC this off-season then Iwill agree he’s not the right guy.
You forgot one

* Had multiple opportunities to garner elite talent at LB and DE, yet refused to do so against what is now to date his biggest game yet.

In 2019, CIS claimed we were going to run the table after the gaytor opener. Those who think that again now is in for a rude awakening.

19/22 returning starters and their so called “experience” is all BS. Experienced in being a JAG gets you nowhere besides getting bullied by real talent.

Lashlee is who we think he is. He’s never put up numbers against real competition. Some of the dumbest playcalling were on full display yesterday.

Everything goes back to the head corch and this current failure has been given more chances than his predecessors.

Maybe Mandy can spend more time gameplanning instead of designing new chains. BTW - let’s not forget the TD rings being brought out down 32. We were a laughing 😆 😂 🤣 💀 😄 😭

this is where UM really felt the loss of Rosseau and Phillips, on those 3rd downs. When you need someone who by their own presence could disrupt things for the offense. That was sorely lacking yesterday and I suspect against any competent passing team this season this problem will crop up again
The dude from Tennessee showed why the Vols get pistol whipped by SEC teams. I don't recall him doing jack chit. Can't wait for him to get 3 sacks vs Duke and be a 2nd rounder though
