Sam Leavitt To Sign With Lane Kiffin & LSU

Agreed. Our room is unsettling. I think they just need to add a 5 star/4 star unproven talent in the room and see how it shakes out - Longstreet already in the portal but if not him, I'd start tampering and going after St. Clair (OSU) or someone who will not be starting and we can convince them to win the job.

This shouldn't be this hard with Cam Ward, Beck resurgence, and playing for a natty but it is.
Yeah it definitely shouldn’t be hard considering our circumstances. But here we are. This is why I said this portal thing for qbs every single year is a very dangerous game. It’s great until it’s not. Then it turns into a nightmare. Especially when you recruit qbs at the high school level so poorly. Bring in Longstreet or Simpson if possible. But we need somebody else

Its just weird to me that after having Ward come in, light it up, go #1, and then the following season Beck comes in, has a good year and has us in the 'ship, that we are struggling to get a QB. It just makes no sense. We have proven 2 years in a row that a transfer QB has come in and had incredible success and paired up with our OL, makes no sense that we don't get one of our top 1-2 targets.

Agreed on the red flags, I said in other threads he’s bleh (looking at you Franchise).

But clock’s ticking and the last thing I want to do is waste a second of Malachi’s time at Miami with a QB like Emory or Bailey.

Would think we’re just going to overpay for someone, but that doesn’t really exist in today’s world. Just make it happen.

USC is maybe paying Maiava that now, but certainly didn't drop top of the line money for him when he transferred.

You are right about Tennessee, but Heupel needs a big season in 2026 very badly, so maybe not quite the same situation.
Ohio State as well. Took Howard in the portal, Sayin in the portal, and St. Clair out of HS.

We finna throw 12 million at Simpson arent we? 😨

This is not excuse-making, because Miami wanted him and thought he was coming as of Saturday.

But my personal opinion is that this kid is a disaster. Injured, inaccurate, and with red flags from here to Arizona. He would have been a bad pick.

The problem is we wanted him, and we don’t have a quarterback on January 12th. Not a good situation at the moment. Let’s see how it ends.

Why is he a bad person?

What proof do you have?

We’ll need examples of what makes him a character risk, sir.

Do they not want to play for Dawson? It’s baffling that qbs wouldn’t be jumping at the opportunity to be here

No one wants to put in the work those guys do. They get in at 5 am.

Leavitt is like Mateer except with worse red flags. Mark this post we dodged one.

I mean the most challenging thing is Simpson is looking to be projected 1st round

Ward and Beck were mid rounds at best so the money made sense.
This is a different argument. QBs with his minimal starting experience are rarely successful in the NFL and he can make more money by staying and gaining experience because (1) he will go higher in the first (larger initial contract/bonus) and (2) he will have a better chance at the lucrative second contract.

Ohio State as well. Took Howard in the portal, Sayin in the portal, and St. Clair out of HS.
Eh. Sayin doesn't really count as a true portal guy IMO. And St. Clair and Sayin are the same year, so not sure it helps them to pay both of them to stay on your roster.

And you wonder if they regret that considering they didn't even take a QB in the 2026 class.

Here is the reality of the situation - we didn't get who we wanted and it's not an indictiment on our program or coaches - he just chose another opportunity albeit a bit strange given the OL situation and team at LSU but who cares. Lots of red flags. I promise we gave everything and more to get him.

There are not a lot of great transfer QBs this year. You are going to win and going to lose.

Sorsby chose TTU - he's from Texas probably partially why, Mestemaker follwed his coach, Becht followed his coach, Hoover was IU all the way. Who else did you really want out of the list of guys? Would you have been happy with Minchey or Brown who followed his coach as well. Raiola I promise is not the answer and I'd rather have someone else. It's not like Mario and team had a lot of options. I do not at all fault this staff one bit. They tried. They will figure it out and have an answer.

Here is what I will say - this will eventually catch up when you just get Portal guys. I know Emory is not everyone's ideal but he is doing a lot of work with Jeff Christensen who is Patrick Maholmes QB coach and the same QB coach for Mestemaker. He recently has been working a lot with him. Who knows about Nickel and Coleman. If we have a strong running team, great OL, we can get a lot of a QB. Might be a little rough at the beginning but we will have a strong team.

The staff prioritized this "disaster." That is an epic fail on there end. Many knew, including yourself this dude and his camp were not a fit. He should have never been the top option. And now there isn't a single proven QB currently in the portal. We will now have to overpay for someone to jump in or flip. If we go into next season after this phenomenal run without a proven QB, we failed this process miserably.

I hope they now go after 1 guy that I know would come here, but the price just went up big time. Play with your food too often and **** like this will happen.

Bailey?

I agree with the first part of the statement. We should have at least gone after Bailey instead of Anderson. Made no sense. I don't think you want to ignore the position out of high school altogether.

But I still don't see any team that is thrilled with any of their quarterbacks recruited out of high school (Texas, Notre Dame and maybe Georgia are the exceptions).
and all three of those teams will be watching us next Monday night.
