Saban has retired.

It is if coaches keep publicly stating. No Thanks, I'd rather stay at _____.
We’re in a different era of college football. Getting coaches to leave elite/blue blood jobs is difficult. Especially following Saban. These dudes are getting big raises just for being mentioned. Must have different definitions of embarrassing.

Didn’t read the thread so apologies if it’s already been said, but the more Bama strikes out on its top tier the more Mario becomes a real possibility there. He’d be their Ron Zook bridge to another good coach - recruit like crazy and nobody GAF about firing him in 3 years for a better option lol.

All you Mario haters might get your wish!

If you think Alabama being told No repeatedly isn't embarassing then idk if you have an understanding of the word. The narrative will shift from who is next to follow Saban to is Alabama even a good job.

Being told no by 2 coaches who just played in the CFP and another who had an undefeated team at a historically great program. If Mario Cristobal turns them down then yea, that’s embarrassing.

I don't know if it's embarrassing so much as it is that Bama is a victim of its own success. Bama fans expect a title at least every other year. If a new HC tries to change anything and goes into a "title drought" (in other words, not winning a title in the next 3 years), then fans will say he ruined everything Saban built. So the only option is to keep doing things exactly the same way Saban did them, which is nearly impossible. That's why I think they'll do an internal hire first who will follow Saban's blueprint; then when that guy fails, they will be able to land a big name coach who will be viewed as the savior replacing a dud.

As for Cristobal, I don't think he'd leave UM- he'll leverage this into an extension. But in the very unlikely event that he does leave, then it's the opportunity to hire Fisch, who I think will be more innovative. Or UM could do what it did a couple years and buyout Diaz's contract to bring him back before he coaches a game.

Alabama has a top 2 roster in college football. This is not the same as a UF or Miami job opening up. They were expected to have their pick of the litter with a replacement. They told players 72 hours because they did not anticpate being told no. I'm sure their is some correlation with one agent being the key master but public perception will soon turn on them.

It's going to be Mario, I mean it makes sense...Saban taught him the Bama and Saban way of recruitment, he's a pound the rock disciple, recruiting specialist, it helps keep them stock piled for a couple years while he wins 8/9 games then gets canned...it's almost too logical. He's one of the few who's bold enough to think he can follow Saban

I’d bet he’s far down their list. But I know if he was to leave, he should be excommunicated from Miami forever! And IDGAF if he played here.
