Several signs he's worried about how is legacy looks in retrospect.

Although very, very brief, the last time he faced a fairly level form of competition was with the Dolphins.

Now, he is charasmatic for sure, he is a good defensive coach, he has a track record of taking great athletes to championships.

But it isn't like he elevated Marshall to the top of the mountain.

We'll never know the truth, but again, head to head in building a program vs constraints on said program, Butch DAW GAWD is in the same conversationas Nicky.

Absolutely. Plenty of politicians say things they don't really mean to get votes, plenty of coaches say things they don't really mean to get a particular response.
But, sure, the #1 coach in the country was trying to convince his boosters of the imminent threat of "big market" Jackson State...

...Come on, now...
