S.fla Coaches on Who Miami Should Hire (It's Long)

Best answer,

Roger Harriott, Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas coach: “I’m confident that the University of Miami administration will make a hire conducive to their objectives, goals and school mission. It’s imperative that their next head coach understands the south Florida culture, in order to navigate through a very competitive recruiting area. Coach (George) Smith and I agree that the Hurricanes possess the potential to acquire national prominence with the right leadership and committed support base. We wish the University of Miami all the best on their search for the next head Hurricane.”

this is what I dont get

why does everyone on this board hate him and 100% of coaches say he should be the guy

Because when he got a chance to be head coach he sucked, Bama fans RIGHT NOW would help him pack his bags despite his recruiting! One thing Mario has done tho is PR, dude mustve put years in for this and it is paying dividends. He has media and local coaches in back pocket, even with terrible record as a head coach. The media influence on the simple minded cannot be understated. The mass public get their thoughts without looking deep into it and just run with it. No mention in any of these articles is the hesitation a school should have hiring a failed coach with the record he put up at FIU. If Mario is such a great coach why hasnt his name been mentioned for ANY other job opening. Dude should be in line at UCF more than UM. He needs to prove what he has learned under the great Nick Saban before he gets a gig like UM.

Either way if we dont voice our mind, the media will win and influence enough people to allow UM to cheap out one more time. See below. The tide is turning. With these pieces weekly, Cristobal will have been head coach leading bama to playoff last couple of years!

I'm starting to fall for Mario if all those guys are saying he's the guy is because of something. Hopefully we get the best guy

Who do the high school coaches think Miami will hire as coach?

It's all about control and Butch Davis would have local players coming to UM with minimal influence from their local coaches, and local coaches are worried.

It's also about the fact that some of these local coaches have their hands out and think that Mario would play the game with them, and Mario would be more comfortable and easier to control than one Butch Davis.

With Butch Davis at the helm, these coaches are scared that they would not have it so easy nor the influence to cash in from outside sharks & recruiters by sending their kids to Auburn, Bama, Miss FSU UF and Clemson.

Because he shouldn't even be considered for the job. He's not just unqualified he's incompetent and the fact he's even being considered tells me this school is still not serious about winning.

Let him get another job and build his resume. I love how he's trying to weasel his way to becoming a head coach at a P5 and using us to do it. No thanks.

Something reeks for real. The part I hate is when they talk about national recruiter of the year. **** that titles goes to someone from the SEC and maybe Ohio State yearly. Miami and the trojans have to be humming to get that. Everyone of them pays the recruiting services and have high end bag men. Quite easy to throw money and yeah you can come play for Nick Saban. I could be national recruiter of the year with those assets.
I will never excuse losing consistently, I don't care who you're coaching for. We are better getting a coach like Dan Mullen if not Butch Davis. No more recruiting coordinators

I'm sure when NASA has a molecular materials problem, they go ask high school science teachers what they think.

Because Mario has good relations with those coaches and they want their kids to get offers. That's all. They don't care if the Hurricanes are great or not, they just want theirs.

This is part of it but I also don't think they have any idea what would make a winning college football program. Look at their teams - lots of raw talent that is rarely coached up well.

I'm not that familiar with Mario, I'm not that familiar with any of the considered coaches for that matter. I've seen what Butch has done before and know it would be a long shot for him to repeat... But if I had to bet my last dollar who will bring back the greatness... I would have to put it on Butch... Mario could be the new blood that Miami needs.. Herman seems to be on point... young hungry.. He could be the one.. But again I've seen Butch's results at Miami... so I guess I have a biased opinion. And I'm sure Mario is a charismatic guy with a good sales pitch... ALABAMA had a lot to do with his recruiting success.

It's not just coaches. Recruits are saying they want cristobal too. Sam bruce said he been doing research on cristobal.

I'd be willing to bet several of those guys are NOT hurricane fans on a personal level either. They're not necessarily looking out for what's best for the program...they might be looking to backdoor their way into a college job down the line.

It simply cannot be Cristobal. He's good friends with James Coley and would likely retain him. That alone means that a Cristobal hiring would be an outright disaster.

Dammit mane....

Earl Little, Miami/Jackson coach: “I think first and foremost Miami has to get a Hurricane guy. Either Mario Cristobal, Rob Chudzinski or bring Butch Davis back. Somebody that knows the culture down here and knows what Miami football is all about. That’s what I think. Just the swagger. The shirts that Miami is making: “The U invented Swag.” Nobody plays college football like Miami did in the 80s. When I watch the other teams play. Let these kids have fun and go out and play. Miami has to be aggressive on both sides of the ball. I like James Coley a lot but I’m not sure how much total control he had over the total offense. Defensively it hasn’t been a University of Miami 4-3 defense. That’s what Miami needs to get back to. I know the game has changed with more spread offense. You have to have a Miami guy that knows these kids from Palm Beach on down. You have to have that 4-3 defense and you just have to be aggressive. Spread it out like you do now a days. When I look at Baylor and Toledo those kids aren’t good like Miami kids. And they are putting up 60 points doing it. Before they hired (Al) Golden I was hoping they would hire Mike Leach at the time because of that up-tempo and that spread offense. He was right here in Key West at the time. Mario Cristobal intrigues me because he’s a Hurricane. He’s from Columbus High School in Miami. He’s a Cuban-American. He was nasty. Him and his twin brother were nasty offensive linemen. They were just going to get after your butt. Mario did a great job at FIU. He turned around a program that was a doormat and went to a bowl game. How can you turn up an opportunity to coach at Alabama? So he’s been learning under Nick Saban the past few years. The stuff he already knew playing under coach (Jimmy) Johnson and coach (Dennis) Erickson. Have that Miami swagger. That whole mentality as an offensive lineman. And just a guy that knows Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. That’s why he’s my first choice. Then you have a guy like (Rob) Chudzinski who is a great offensive mind. He’s a Miami guy. Miami has guys that can do it but Mario can get that recruiting and get that fire back. Mario is the guy.”

At this point it's clear you're trolling because you can't be that dumb.

In 14 years as a football CEO, Leach has 1 10+ win season and no conference titles.

Miami deserves better, Miami can do better.

You sound like an idiot. This dude change the whole style of football in the big 12.

When the two biggest attributes people use to pump you up are "great recruiter" and "turned a bad program around" you're in trouble.

As we saw with the 2014 Canes, talent means absolutely nothing if you can't coach it. We've run the stats, 2014 was one of the most historically disappointing seasons for a team with that much talent in modern college football history. So recruiting needs to take a back seat right now. Also, making matters worse, you're being hailed as a great recruiter while wearing an Alabama polo and asking kids to play for Nick Saban. If you give me that I'll pull a few 5-star kids a year and I have crippling halitosis and offensive body odor.

The second part is even more worrisome. Bringing some energy and a pulse to a dead program like Temple and FIU and getting them 8 wins is not some parade worthy accomplishment. If that's the best on the field accomplishment you can point to on your résumé you have no business even interviewing for this job. A guy like Mullen pulled a dead program out of the gutter. The difference being it was accomplished in the SEC, he made a BCS bowl, and he has an extensive history as a productive OC and QB coach. Mario has none of that.

This is why I'm floored at the support. Just look at the two things people are using to promote him: great recruiter, built up a mid-major into an 8-win team.

People seriously want a repeat of Al Golden? Wake the F up.

It's not just coaches. Recruits are saying they want cristobal too. Sam bruce said he been doing research on cristobal.

Of course they do! His role as a recruiter is to have a great relationship with recruits. Recruits have very little idea of what would make a successful coach in college. In fact, they have no idea.

It seems like we should have opened up the pocket book and paid Mario whatever he wanted before he bounced to Alabama. We would have definitely cleaned house down here with the recruits, but he not worthy of the Head Coaching job at the U.

That's the only intelligent response I read. Good for STA.

South Florida high school coaches are largely talentless hacks with their hands out. Who gives a **** what they think. All this article does is tell us who has been lining the most pockets locally.
