Rumph to UM

I guess if you're Rumph you really had 4 opportunties to make a splash between the hire date and now....
1. Burns
2. Byrd
3. Miller
4. Carter

Don't really blame him for Carter, obviously, but the other 3? Just didn't turn out well. Hope he fares better in this next class. You can't get that kind of non-production from a guy you hire to be a recruiting guy.
Is there another player of his at Heritage next year to say no to him?

Heritage has a few studs for the 2017 class, including a blue goose LT (Tedarrell Slaton) and stud corner (Marco Wilson). Campbell and Surtain Jr. from AH will be two of the most coveted corners from South Florida in 2018.

Already preparing for people to make excuses if we don't land Wilson by continuing to blame Golden for burning bridges with the Wilson family during Quincy's recruitment.

Some posters on here have an limited understanding about football, the same ones complaining about Rumph were the same idiots complaining about having Cristobal as the OL coach. Seems like Cristobal would only been a good hire only if Butch was hired as HC. Good hire imo, a coach has to start somewhere, people do not understand how many guys have potential to be a good d1 coach, all they need is an opportunity. This is a new year, as fans we been through a lot of bs and headaches but I am really hyped about the upcoming season, stay positive and give Richt/Rumph and all the other staff a chance.
What a ****ty porst. Way to go full potato Finch.

True that everyone has to start somewhere, but that somewhere should never be Miami.

How? We have not even seen on the field results yet, thats what people should care about more is winning in impressive fashion

Ridiculous statement coming from the biggest Golden supporter in December 2013.

That's a lie but can't fight you retards. Anyway...live in the present and reread this thread for an education.

Should we bump up some old threads? You fiercely defended Al after VT, Duke and the Louisville bowl game.

When he flirted with Penn State, you finally hopped off the bandwagon.

Well I officially lost all faith after Bowl game with Louisville. Check game thread. (Admittedly too late) Never fiercely defended him though. I don't need to get into a ****ing match about Golden. He was a failure and is gone. We're now on to the new staff......wtf is your point? I hated the Coker and Shannon hire from day 1 so I guess I'm 2/3.

I'm talking about the valid points brought up in this thread and you're talking about Golden. Figures.

Fair enough. I just think bashing Rumph before he's coached a game is a bit pre-mature.

Not really. Rumph has to get at least one!

This thread bringing the LULZ. Bang up job so far coach. Keep up the "not taking no for an answer".

The fact that you fought valid points for so long into what was an abundantly clear problem makes one wonder if you even can recognize valid points.

Big Sky is the last dude that needs to be attacked for "defending" Al. The only time I ever saw him making excuses for stuff was midway through a recruiting cycle a few years back. Hardly egregious stuff.

Mike Rumph is still a net loss for Miami recruiting wise. Didnt pick up anyone, and cost us Sony which is worth like 3 recruits.

Guy is a canker sore and I hated that they handed him a job.

I'm starting to question whether or not his players really liked him. Try that on for size.

I'm really glad we hired a high school coach who was supposed to be able to recruit really well and can't even get his own kids to come to Miami!

I mean anyone with 2 brain cells should be able to learn from our past experiences with guys like Ice for example who pulled NOTHING for us.

These HS coaches on staff never work out and usually cause more backlash from other jealous HS coaches.

He either produces next year or fire him! Don't start all of this BS over again, recruit and win on the field that is their job. If they don't do it, fire them.

CaneOil - Over the past 10 plus years we have had the same sales pitch "We're bringing back the U" expecting to get every top recruit that we wanted. When we didn't get them we said it was Randy's fault so we fired him. Then we hired Golden who came in using the same sales pitch "We're bringing back the U." The greatest salesmen ever and he couldn't get all of them to come the U. So we fired him.

As an Institution we're starting to halfway get it that we need to spend some money on good coaches. So we hired Richt. He tried to bring in the best coaches that he could but his first choices turned him down. So we now have the best available coaches at that time who wanted to come and be a part of this U.

By the way, there seems to be a commonality with the "BEST coaches" and "BEST recruits" when it comes to this U. They don't come because we haven't WON anything.

Now if you haven't notice the old sales pitch seems to have gone out the door with Golden and has since been replaced with a blueprint which starts with structure.

We as fans should allow Richt to rebuild this thing the right way first that way his assistants will have a better product to sell to potential recruits like a conference title. Then maybe we will get most of the recruits we want. But right now you can't make them come to the U.

It's the disease of the new coaching hire. Richt could have brought in Pat Nix as OC, and they'd applaud it.

Hiring a HS corch for a position coach at the U of M was universally recognized as a bad idea 2 weeks ago.

Now? "Great hire" "local ties" "he was a great DB here".

Nobody would've applauded a Patrick Nix hire.

Because he didn't play here.

I know this with certainty: If Rumph doesn't deliver all those studs from Heritage then Richt is a sap. Richt should have made it crystal clear that Rumph can have the CB gig if he delivers all the Heritage guys.

I don't want to hear any stupid **** about getting on them "too late". Rumph was their goddam HC and leader. He absolutely must deliver. None of this sissified "well he can't force them to come here" horse **** we've heard the last ten years or as Ice's excuse for failing to deliver local dudes.

This. Right now, the only tangible advantage to hiring Rumph is his recruiting. We have no idea if he can coach DBs but we know he knows the Heritage kids very well. He needs to deliver them now.
Richt is a total sap if he handed a quarter million to Rumph without a guarantee he was going to deliver those dudes. You aren't giving a HS coach that kind of scratch because he's a proven technical wizard.

Just gonna leave this here......

As a graduate assistant at Kent St.? Nope....I think that was a very appropriate launching pad for Saban. Do you not understand the difference here?
No i said when he took his first coaching job..not a GA position...

Saban was a defensive GA/Assistant for 9 YEARS IN COLLEGE before he EVER landed his FIRST position coaching job. See the difference yet?

1972–1974 Kent State (GA)

1975–1976 Kent State (D. Asst.)

1977 Syracuse (D. Asst.)

1978–1979 West Virginia (D. Asst.)

1980–1981 Ohio State (DB)

1982 Navy (D. Asst.)

1983–1987 Michigan State (DB/DC)

1988–1989 Houston Oilers (DB)

1990 Toledo

1991–1994 Cleveland Browns (DC)

1995–1999 Michigan State

2000–2004LSU

2005–2006 Miami Dolphins

2007–present Alabama

If Rumph wants to grind it out in the lower levels for 9 years and then come back I'll be on board in a heart beat.

So every position coach needs to have started as a GA?

At the Div 1 level? I'd say it's a no brainer genius. Do you ******* clowns even know what goes into coaching at the college level? It's a ******* grind to the bone. 100 hour work weeks and ****. I'd prefer my position coaches to understand and flourish in that role before coaching at UM.

Has he ever had to sit in a living room and convince a kid to come to a **** school? Has he ever had to communicate and deliver a game plan to kids at this level? Has he ever had to sit in a meeting room and discuss the merits of a particular recruit and why he should or shouldn't be offered? Has he ever failed, succeeded or honed in his instruction skills that are required for this level. This isn't ******* high school anymore boys. I'd prefer my position coaches have already gone through those growing pains before they reach our level. It's common ******* sense.

It's not just "Hey bro....you need a little more bend in your knees in your back pedal". The nuances of coaching at this level are enormous.

and just because I want to quote myself.

The guy still has not coached a single game here.

Some of this criticism is very warranted, as we should've gotten at least some of the top tier guys he coached. But to call a guy an absolute failure before he even coaches a single game is pretty silly to me.

He may well turn out to be a failure, but let's see how our CBs look in games and then judge him.

Cost you Sony? We never had a chance with him.....we got out recruited
