Rumph to UM

Santa, don't you love these guys making excuses for why a coach can't land one player from his talent rich local high school? No way Richt hired him if he knew the guy had zero following.

and just because I want to quote myself.

Much props Big Sky Cane, you pretty much nailed it with your response.

Yes he did... And that was 6 months ago.

I should say now in looking at it closely that Big Sky nailed Rumph on the recruiting end but not necessarily on the coaching end. Rumph did a good job in his coaching only duties. Unfortunately, his inability to pull 1 kid from his own high school is an epic fail and to me is a major problem when that's a big part of the job.

Maybe they have no interest in coming to UM and thats all there is to it

They have no interest in Rumph and that's all there is to it.

On one hand Rumph is being called out for his recruiting, on the other hand kids today have no allegiance to anyone. Transferring to certain High Schools, giving percentage commitments, divas and get either bagged or promised and on and on.

One would hope that kids start seeing and understanding what is real. Kids are being swayed away from what should be in their best interests. Based on Rumph's recruiting failures, one an only hope his coaching success (if it continues) will inspire smart kids who get it, to come play at Miami.

Santa's logic is to bring back Paul Williams! Why not right? He landed some 4* dude, maybe even a 5*. Pull the string boys! The backed up blood in your ****** is gonna cause your head to explode!

He coached up the weakest spot on our team to one of the strengths. So who cares about your exaggerated recruiting flaws

Exactly. Its all about that to some of theses guys. Our secondary 2017 is still looking nice to me. Sheldrick, Malik, Trajan, and hopefully dean and we are still looking good.

I've commended the coaching. Are the recruiting flaws I'm pointing out exaggerated, dude? The guy can't pull one player from his old talent rich school. It's unfathomable. If you can't see that you're just another apologist covering up for Rumph like dudes on here did for Folden.

U dont even know what position he was hired as but your not a fan? GTFOH

If it was for DB....which only makes sense then I absolutely am not a fan of the move. How has hiring high school coaches worked for us in the past? It's a gamble, hope it pays off, but I would have felt more comfortable with an experienced college DB coach.

Rumph is a rising star in the profession. I don't know if you can compare him to Beard or Hurley.

With all do respect, Ice was "a rising star" as well.

Gtfoh ice was a rising what? If yall would take a second to do research before running off at the mouth. Only thing ice was ever considered good at was recruiting & relating to players. Rump is considered a rising star because he is VERY TECHNICAL regardless of heritage he worked national camps for soldinger teaching technique to DB's on an elite level. He's considered a natural coach. Ice has never had that going on because he's never been elite himself at anything beyond coaching booker t. He wasn't even coaching his natural position at UM so how can he relate???

Love a good old thread bump.

Noticed this idiotic gem. This must be what is keeping someone like Pete Carroll from being an elite coach. How could he overcome having never been an elite football player himself.

We have some of the most insane fans in the Nation. The complaints would make sense if some of you actually knew how the staff recruits. The product on the field is the most import part of coaching and so far so good! Recruiting is a collective effort by the staff and it's also looking solid and only getting better! Relax you crazy fools!!

Once again would Rumph "be terrible at recruiting" if we won a NC lets say in the past 3-4 years instead of playing second fiddle to UVA, Duke, VT in our own division

its hilarious muther****ers getting mad at Rumph about recruiting!

he was hired to do a job which is to coach the cornerbacks!
recruiting is completely a secondary aspect for a position coach.
He is not hired to be best buddies with teenagers he is not a recruiting coordinator.

if a bond is formed great! but for yall to really think these teenagers are making the biggest decision of their life based on if they "like" a coach
are because they want to be BFF's with a coach you are living in a fantasy world

they want to play for and with the best and that comes with time!
Coach Rumph did an outstanding job! (I.E) see Corn Elder's turnaround this year

great hire

these same people were complaining that Golden hired a staff for recruiting only. (Even though they weren't great at it)

I remember this board full of people begging for coaches that could "coach up" lesser players and our CB's were nothing short of that

And yes, a ton of kids make "the biggest decision of their life" based on whether they like a coach or not. I hear/see it all the time. Whether they like their main recruiter or not (as well as the other coaches) plays a huge part in their decision. Truth is, a lot of kids aren't smart enough yet to understand the business decision that they're making.

I do think that position coaches, however, often times get to much credit when things are going well with their unit and to much blame when going bad. EX....Oline. It's the coordinator job to make each unit click together and play to the strengths of the individuals and mask deficiencies. An example is overall tackling from the defense and DBS in general was improved. Who is responsible? It's Diaz style (Hawk tackling) and how they taught pursuit as a whole that was a success. Does Rump deserve some credit for that? I suppose but I'll continue to give credit to Diaz where most of the praise belongs on the Def.

Yes! Thank you! I was looking for a way to say this without sounding like a hater. You nailed it.

I don't know what's going on with our American Heritage recruiting. I don't wanna point the finger at Rumph though cause he's a cool guy and I like him. It is kinda odd that no kids have followed him here though. I've only had a handful of D1 kids play for me over the years but I can guarantee that they would've followed me if I got a job at a major college, especially if it was local. If you have a really tight bond with kids and they genuinely like you, they'll follow you anywhere. (usually)
