When have I ever said the stadium has to be in the Gables? I never did.

I just think the anti-Gables arguments about building codes are amusing. I do say if UM was hellbent on building a stadium in the Gables, they COULD make it happen. They won't. But I say they could.

IF a stadium is built, it won't be there, though. It's just not the kind of place people typically put stadiums, that's my unscientific take.

Your original argument ions ago - with me - was that UM is essentially full of **** because they can just build a stadium in the Gables (on campus IIRC???), whether the City likes it or not.

That’s a different argument than simply not choosing to build their own stadium in a viable location in the City. That they can do if they can fund it, get the approvals and pay off Steven Ross. That’s a lot of ifs but it’s very different from your original position on the board.

That was your original argument - “UM could just build it there if they wanted to and no one could do a **** thing…”

To be clear, you did not say it had to be in Coral Gables but you did say that UM could build it there if they wanted to and that’s what I took exception to…

New Stadium

More people live in Dade county than Broward. Anything you lose in Broward you make up for in Dade. Maybe it never occurred to you, but a lot of people don't want to travel up to Miami Gardens due to traffic and distance. You would gain those people. Population in 2018: Miami-Dade 2,751,796...

You say it was eons ago... I have a famously bad memory so I'll take you at your word. What I think is Miami ought to have its own stadium. I personally don't care if it's in the Gables or elsewhere - I was always a fan of the OB and that wasn't in the Gables, but it worked fine for us.

I think we need one because Hard Rock is too big for a university our size, we need one for recruiting, and we need one because strategically it's a bad idea to put yourself in a position where you're dependent on Steven Ross for a place to play football, with zero backup options. Seems to me he has all the leverage in that relationship, and I don't like that for Miami.

What I have said in the past, and I still think today, is that IF MIAMI wanted to build in the Gables, they could. That doesn't mean they should or they will, it's more of a comment on the power dynamic in South Florida than anything else. They could if they wanted to, I believe. But I don't think that's the best place to put it today.

the soccer stadium is never getting built in Miami. they'll end up staying in FTL.

also the county will never fund another stadium build after the marlins. Ross couldn't even get the county to fund the stadium renovations this last go around. its why Miami FC got the Reno done in FTL before even breaking ground at the melreese site. it will never happen.

They couldn’t build one in the Gable man but I’ve made my points previously based on my expertise in development and transportation. I don’t have anything else to add from what’s been said.

Then why can't they get approval to install the total number of seats in the design for the basketball arena?

Soccer stadium is not planned for Coral Gables. It’s planned for where the current Golf Course is next to MIA Airport

Miami is NOT investing in new stadium, even with Beckham and his backers, right after going all in on Mario and a new staff.

Put a good product on the field first.

THEN maybe look at a new stadium, AFTER your team has brought home some silverware.

Obvious that it couldn't be in the Gables given the cost of land and the zoning. Lots of people think the OB used to be on campus or even walking distance from UM (I don't recall the fans and media ever saying UM needed a stadium closer to campus, but maybe I'm forgetting). It was actually 7 miles away. If a stadium was near the airport, it would be almost exactly 7 miles away. That's close enough that I think it would be considered near campus (would be a 10-15 min HurryCane shuttle ride). I don't know if the rail ever made it out to the airport, but I think that was in the plans. If that ever happened, you could just take the metro to this hypothetical stadium.

I want to emphasize that I don't believe the rumor, I'm just fact checking the arguments for and against.

UM doesn't give a **** about football, and football actually moves the needle.

You think they're sticking their necks out to fight for basketball? The answer to your question is that they're apathetic and don't give a ****. They only built that arena because the ACC made them do it in the first place.
