Rumor on CS board

The discounted cash flow for issue 1 is a huge negative number from the University of Miami's perspective. Financing a new coach is chump change when compared to the financial and intangible losses to the University and its fan base for relocating.
I don’t doubt that at all

That won't work with the early signing period. Someone (not me) needs to step up and offer the 2 mil to save the few studs we do have committed. Shiiiitttt. Bama drops that on a high 4*, we should be able to do it for multiple ballers.

he isn't gonna take a job while Oregon is playing for a playoff spot (which short of an inexcusable loss) should be theirs.

The OB was 14 years ago. Traffic's gotten worse and there are a whole lot of new people moved in. The best case scenario for a stadium further south is to maintain the same attendance. I know plenty of people up in Palm Beach County who simply will not tackle Miami traffic.

the stadium is actually in a perfect spot right now bc its accessible to all major highways and as middle as you can realistically get. I don't get the need for a venue. also, the fanbase isn't coming from campus. its coming from all over the area. the students aren't more likely to show up if the team still sucks. it will never be one of those schools where everything revolves around a game day. moving it further south just makes it more difficult for those that live in PBC and Broward to get to games esp in todays world where you can get a better experience at home.

We have fabulous stadium that is just fine for 40K or 70K.... don't put a ****** product on the field and then whine about 30K attendance.

This fanbase and town have supported the program for crappy teams it has put out there, coached by the worst lineup of coaches we could find....

Easier to fix the program than to build a new stadium.... all it takes is hiring comptence!!!
and honestly we will always have attendance issues for the ****** games anyways no matter how good we are. Miami isn't gonna show up for a sht game. it didn't when we were the GOAT and it won't when we suck.

Just remember where you read this….

Blake will be fired.
Manny will be fired.

Total clean slate in athletic department.

New AD hired (Highsmith to assist in some capacity)
Mario Cristobal hired.

In 2022, University of Miami work together with the ownership of Inter Miami and announce to expand plans of new stadium (by the airport) to 40K-45K seats and agree on a deal to share stadium.
I actually like the Rock.

2017 VT and ND showed you the impact a packed Hard Rock can have.

Imagine if we land Mario and are competing for ACC and playoffs annually.

Don't know why you're commenting on this... there's nothing to worry about, remember? There's zero space in Miami for a stadium, what with this mega-tropolis being more crowded than New York City and Tokyo combined easily.

It won't ever happen, you assured me. Inter-Miami obviously won't build a stadium, and neither will we. Don't concern yourself.

Hard rock isn’t the issue, it’s the ****** product. Win games and attendance isn’t an issue. Besides it’s in a good spot for most of the fan base. NO one wants to deal with the traffic in Miami. Logistically it would be a cluster ****.

Lol at the idea of breaking a lease in favor of a 25,000 capacity stadium that will attract fewer fans from the north.

If the was even the slightest hint of truth in the rumor, it would have to be based on the idea that the stadium would involve the two favorite words of billionaires: "taxpayer funded. "

The city actually offered to pony up 200 million to help UM renovate the OB, but Shalala said no because "it wasn't right to ask the taxpayers to fund the stadium for University of Miami football." (yes, there is a certain irony that one of the most politically connected and influential Democrats suddenly became concerned about taxes, but I digress).

In any case, the possibility of having a public works project that could cost a billion dollars or more gives every politician a huge boner. Massive opportunities to steer taxpayer money to friends who then donate the money back to campaigns and essentially guarantees politicians a lifetime appointment. Given who is pushing for the stadium, I can see how something like this would happen.

BTW , agree that a 35-40k stadium is probably too small, but I would guess it would have a ton of luxury boxes that would make up a lot of revenue and there would probably be some kind of flex option for a couple games a year at Hard Rock. For example, if Wake was #2 coming into week 5 and it would be an expected high attendance game with College GameDay, the school could say the game was going to be held at Hard Rock.

For a stadium that still isn't on campus with smaller capacity. Let's hope Frenk has a basic understanding of why it's a bad idea.

Good idea doesn't usually factor in when it comes to billion dollar taxpayer funded projects. That's the way the political world works. Now multiply that grift by 20 given the way S Fl is run like a banana republic. Frenk makes the deal, the Mas bros get hundreds of millions from taxpayers, the political power brokers then put up Frenk for some ego stroking job like Surgeon General or make him the next Dr. Fauci. Maybe it's because I'm over 40 years old that I'm so cynical about politics, but in my experience this is how things play out.

Stay in my lane? Brother, I'm agreeing with you. There's zero chance Jose Mas, David Beckham & partners, and the University of Miami could get a stadium built together. First, because Miami is far and away the most populated corner of the planet, easily bar none.... and secondly, because there's no chance UM, Beckham, and Mas have the political clout to contend with the almighty building codes of Coral Gables.

Even if the stadium wouldn't be built in Coral Gables. That's not the point. Coral Gables building codes > the Bible > Jose Mas > UM.

You are absolutely correct. No way it can ever happen.

I'll always wonder if the University Administration wasn't in on the baseball scam.

There have to be numbered accounts in Grand Cayman or Switzerland. Marlins Stadium was such a complete ripoff of the public that the University had to be involved.

No proof of course. Just an educated guess and the fact that politicians from all sides were feeding at the trough back then.

So miami all a sudden can afford to pay for Mario Buy out. And give him a new contract upwards of 8-10 million a year. Not to mention paying manny his buyout and Blake James buyout. And we haven't even spoke on how much it cost to break the Hard Rock lease. And getting a new stadium built.
Bitcoin is up big now, UM has money to spend

This again? They couldn’t get a new 45,000 seat stadium zoned in the gables with residents in agreement, along with the transportation funding that would be required. The infrastructure issues alone…

Criticize the removal of the OB all you want but there’s nothing to pick at on this road. The Gables is not a viable place.

Melreese is 75 acres. Can you find 75 acres in Coral Gables?

You're right about that, but nobody ever said the stadium had to be in the Gables.

I'm just gloating a bit because I dare to have the opinion for years that UM should build a stadium, and a certain segment of this board consistently rip on it with the same old arguments.... building codes, too crowded, too expensive, yada yada.

My position has always been if the will is there, there's gonna be a way. UM and its board are heavy hitters in South Florida and if they really want one, they can make it happen somewhere. The central message is this: the reason we don't have a stadium today is not because it's impossible, but rather because UM doesn't care enough to make it happen.
