Rumor on CS board

and that will never get built either lol. Becks will stay be in FTL
Never say never in Miami, my friend. Greasing of palms is an every day ritual down here. It’s basically down to county commissioner vote. I believe all they need is the majority 3-2 vote.

It has already been approved by the voters so they don’t need approval from constituents.

Obvious that it couldn't be in the Gables given the cost of land and the zoning. Lots of people think the OB used to be on campus or even walking distance from UM (I don't recall the fans and media ever saying UM needed a stadium closer to campus, but maybe I'm forgetting). It was actually 7 miles away. If a stadium was near the airport, it would be almost exactly 7 miles away. That's close enough that I think it would be considered near campus (would be a 10-15 min HurryCane shuttle ride). I don't know if the rail ever made it out to the airport, but I think that was in the plans. If that ever happened, you could just take the metro to this hypothetical stadium.

I want to emphasize that I don't believe the rumor, I'm just fact checking the arguments for and against.

You could take the MetroFail from Ponce across from campus to the stadium. That's about as good as we're gonna get.

I don't know how the students today get to Hard Rock.

Yes, I think some of the younglings don't quite appreciate how corrupt S Fl politics are. If you want to predict whether or not it could happen, then just ask yourself, "Would this allow for taxpayer money to be funneled to politically connected rich people who will then donate millions back to politicians?" If the answer is yes, then I wouldn't close the door on the possibility.

the stadium is actually in a perfect spot right now bc its accessible to all major highways and as middle as you can realistically get. I don't get the need for a venue. also, the fanbase isn't coming from campus. its coming from all over the area. the students aren't more likely to show up if the team still sucks. it will never be one of those schools where everything revolves around a game day. moving it further south just makes it more difficult for those that live in PBC and Broward to get to games esp in todays world where you can get a better experience at home.
A lot of our fans forget that the bulk of the local alumni live in Broward, and a lot of the major donors live up that way too. Making the stadium accessible to the people WRITING THE CHECKS is important. Never mind the fact that Hard Rock has some of the best premium seating options in collegiate athletics. I completely forgot how bad it is to go to games at traditional college campuses, until I hit Tally last weekend. Sitting on those garbage *** bleachers, getting amped for a **** warm cup of garbage beer doesn't cut it once you experience club level seats, with good concessions and mixed drinks. *

I lived through the OB years as an undergrad student, I got to enjoy Hard Rock as a law student and let's say that the HR experience wasn't nearly as awful. The OB was our dump, but it was still a dump that needed hundreds of millions of dollars to be acceptable in this city, where there is legit competition for entertainment dollars.

I will say this, I did have a good time at Madison Social Friday night. That's a nice setup they have right around the stadium with mixed use development. I'd love to see Ross do the same around Hard Rock.

That may be true, but it doesn't serve the best interests of the University or the program to move into a significantly smaller stadium, that won't offer the amenities nor revenue sources. Unless South Miami is levelled thanks to a natural disaster and the University can build a stadium within walking distance of campus, there's no point in moving away from Hard Rock.

People forget that Joe Robbie put it where it is for a reason. All you heard anyone talk about once it was announced was how nice it would be to be able to go to a game. And that was with 80's traffic.

Truth. The land was also cheap, and it gave you a ton of space to play with. Even when you look at the landscape over there now, Ross can easily expand the footprint if he so chose, the land is still relatively cheap over there. If he wanted, he could easily go full "Jerry World" and have an entertainment complex associated with the facility. I don't understand why he hasn't. Right now, once the game is over, people GTFO because there's nothing to do around the stadium. Give me some nice hotels, some nice dining options and I'll stick around.

Agreed.

To be clear, I am not advocating for the move. Just saying that what OP wrote is not out of the realm of possibility down the road

With South Florida politics, nothing is impossible. That said, we have to be rational about what works. Miami football doesn't have a facilities problem, it has a leadership problem.

from the plans, I think that was Ross's idea to have entertainment options around the stadium. the issue is that its located in Miami Gardens so it will take some redevelopment around the area near that Walmart to make it happen (right now I think there's a sonic right there haha). the more events that are held there the more developers will come in and infuse money in the area (isn't ross a real estate guy by trade?). that's the point of having an F1 race, major concerts and festivals, dolphins practice facility, and tennis there. its more than just a six month a year thing.

Good point. You'd think that Ross would be able to easily buy that Sonic out, same with that Wal Mart. It's Miami Gardens, there's literally crap right across the street from that Wal-Mart. It's all bottom tier stuff, just clear it out, start seeing if you could clear out some of those neighborhoods, maybe cut a deal to build some condos or something for the residents that are upgrades over what they have now. There's a way to have everyone leave a winner in the deal.

This again? They couldn’t get a new 45,000 seat stadium zoned in the gables with residents in agreement, along with the transportation funding that would be required. The infrastructure issues alone…

Criticize the removal of the OB all you want but there’s nothing to pick at on this road. The Gables is not a viable place.
Gables would NEVER let that happen...Lol at anyone who thinks that's a viable option...

When have I ever said the stadium has to be in the Gables? I never did.

I just think the anti-Gables arguments about building codes are amusing. I do say if UM was hellbent on building a stadium in the Gables, they COULD make it happen. They won't. But I say they could.

IF a stadium is built, it won't be there, though. It's just not the kind of place people typically put stadiums, that's my unscientific take.
UM could get Hellbent all they want...A stadium in Coral Gables will NEVER happen...

I heard a rumor that they are building the first floating stadium just off of Key Biscayne. Visitors sideline will be made of sand for a competitive advantage when it gets really hot
