Rumor: Butch Davis contacted

LOL @ Bring Back Botch. Another retread!

Here is a little snippet of when Botch was at UNC towards the end.

“Davis did recruit well, and Carolina was more competitive than they had been since the tenure of Mack Brown in Chapel Hill. That happens to be a very low bar, but this is the nice things part of the discussion.

That said, the corner never turned at UNC, or even came close to turning. Davis' teams never finished above .500 in the league. They never played in the ACC Championship Game, and in three appearances in mid-tier bowls only won one: last year's controversial victory over a mediocre Tennessee Volunteers squad in the Music City Bowl that prompted a change in the rulebook regarding clock rules. Their signature win is ... well, what exactly? The 20-17 victory over Virginia Tech in 2009? Last year's win over Florida State? The Music City Bowl? I'd argue that beating LSU in the 2010 opener despite missing 13 starters and burning countless redshirts in the process was their most heroic game, but that technically isn't a win, and awarding heroism points for self-inflicted roster losses seems beyond wrong.
UNC got to that point in Atlanta in 2010, the year when Carolina was really and truly supposed to emerge as a power, through gross mismanagement of the Tar Heels' program off the field. If Davis' onfield accomplishments were middling to somewhat improved, the administration of the program grades out at somewhere above atrocity and below bureaucratic horrorshow.”

I dont care what he just did at FIU. No More Retreads!

If Butch really is the GOAT as some here claim, why has he been unable to land a HC job at any major program for almost 15 years?

I want a around of interviews before we just decide we have a guy and just hire him without interviewing a pool and asking the right questions.

The man will build a dynasty and is the same age as Saban. Does it seem like Saban is retiring soon? This is his dream job and he will finish what he started.
We’ve all thought about being able to go back to an important point in time in our lives while retaining our current wisdom and maturity. Butch would almost literally be getting that same kind of chance if hired. Don’t underestimate how powerfully motivated he would be.

University of Miami
Davis was hired as the head football coach at the University of Miami in January 1995.[1] Not long after Davis' arrival, the Hurricanes were found to have committed several violations of NCAA rules during the tenure of his predecessor, Dennis Erickson.[2] As a result, the Hurricanes were barred from postseason play in his first year (despite an 8–3 record) and lost 31 football scholarship spots over several years. Davis earned a 51–20 record during his tenure as head coach. During Davis' final year as head coach, the Hurricanes finished 11–1, their best season since coming up one win short of the 1992 national championship. Despite finishing second in both human polls, a quirk in the Bowl Championship Series formula resulted in the Hurricanes being shut out of that year's national championship game, the 2001 Orange Bowl. The Hurricanes were passed over in favor of the Florida State Seminoles, even though the Seminoles had lost to the Hurricanes that year when a last-second field goal attempt sailed wide right. The Seminoles ultimately lost the Orange Bowl to the Oklahoma Sooners 13–2. The snub ultimately led the BCS to add a "quality win" bonus to its formula, which gave extra credit for beating a top-ten team. The Hurricanes earned recognition from the American Football Coaches Association for outstanding graduation rates in each of his six seasons at Miami.

Numerous professional football players were coached or recruited by Davis in his time at Miami, such as Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Edgerrin James, Reggie Wayne and Jeremy Shockey.

Yes, Dunning-Kruger moronic dumbasses always "forget" that Butch was hit with massive sanctions immediately, his first year. These insolent insect children aren't old enough to remember, so Wikepedia is needed to help them. They then "forget", once sanctions wore off, Butch went 11-1, robbed of title.

Right, the same Kruger conveniently also "forget" that the 2001-2002 team was 100% built by Butch and a carry over from 2000. That the great "national champ" coach Larry Coker, who won with Butchs players, turned out to be a god awful head coach when the Butch effect wore off and was subsequently FIRED for tanking the program. After a short disastrous stint at USTA, the great "2001-2002" coach was completely ejected from coaching.
The same absolute morons think that Barry Switzer is as good or better than JJ, because he too won a superbowl title. Their little insect brains wont admit it was purely with JJs players and when the JJ effect wore off, the coach was exposed for the POS he is.
Great memories, great post..

See? This is absolute BS.

Those 13 starters he lost? UNC Administrations fault - nothing to do with Butch other than ruining what looked to be a really good season.

Pick any team, pull thirteen starters - play LSU - and manage to win. With a lot of freshmen.

Yeah - Butch.

That's my guy. Always does more with less.

Just imagine him doing with a couple top recruiting classes again at UM . . . . yeah -

lol. Funny how people forgot how he got the nickname BOTCH. Or How he bolted to the NFL. He had his chance already. He will never be Nick or Urban second time around here. Time to move into the future.

They didn’t start their current spots at 67 my g.

You gotta keep up.

It was eighteen years ago that he put together the all-time, greatest college football team EVER.

You're just too young to remember what UM football was and could be again.
