Romberg Gets It

Nah, not at all. The older Canes talking about not letting opposing players disrespect The U by throwing it down is just blowing hot smoke. Two ways to do that; get in their face/get physical with them (which will result in fights, penalties, and players getting ejected) or keep them out of the end zone. How do you keep them out of the end zone? Better coaching/scheme and better execution. simple as that. All this "playing for pride/for the U" stuff is just outdated nostalgia. You want the players to play with pride? Coaches should give them a reason to play with pride and for the U on the helmet.

Nah, you're REALLY missing the point if you thin COACHES have ever given kids a reason to play with pride at Miami.

That **** comes from within. You're either that dog, or you're not. Coaches have nothing to do with what these kids have in their soul. If anything, it runs so deep coaches can't even temper if if they tried.

You think coaches had anything to do with how Al Blades Sr. or cats like Nate Webster rolled? They just got out of the of dudes like that.

Fans need to stop trying to pin EVERYTHING on coaches. This isn't about playing for pride at "The U"—it's personal pride. What kind of young men are going through this program where they let Duke outscore them 28-0 and then they go back to their dorms and search the Internet for Getty Images of the one play in the game they might've made, so they can post some lame-*** "Humble, hungry and grinding through every day until I get to the other side" nonsensical quote that suck-up fans will like and comment on.

That has nothing to do with Old School U and everything to do with a soft-***, cucked generation of football players that Miami needs to flush out of this program immediately.

Right, it's all speculation. And somehow we're making the claim that a 12 win P5 coach doesn't know how to do any of those things.

Which is more likely: (a) we have talented kids who want to work hard and win, but Mario's strategy that won big somewhere else actually has negative results, or (b) we have a locker room full of guys who don't give a ^%$#.
The proof is in the pudding. These players crushed Duke last year. They got smoked this year. Did the players all just forget how to play? Or does this staff not put them in the best position to win games?

What kind of accountability is Mario putting on his players? Who are they players who aren’t putting in the work and why are they playing? Who’s getting benched? Who’s being punished? I don’t see anyone being held accountable. I see a bunch of bs tough talk from coaches and excuse making while they continue to get crushed by teams that suck. They’re not even getting beat by good teams.

We're halfway through season one. Bet you *** on a mass exodus from this program at season's end and Miami coaches hitting the portal, a la Michigan State in 2021—where they had 33 new roster players (including the recruiting class and 19 from the portal) when the 2021 season kicked off.

Miami hired Andrew Rodgers in January 2022, the Spartans recruiting assistant who helped Mel Tucker with that portal haul, as well. The 2023 Canes won't resemble these 2022 imposters.

No one "forgot" how to do anything, including the 12-win head coach. Like the rest of this board, you think that we're working with robots. Just call the right plays and we will win. It is very possible, even likely, that the older players have said &^%$ all of this. And that is fine. They're a 7-5 roster.

Yet people on this board claim Mario is not a great coach, just a great recruiter. As has already been pointed out, his record is .500, not very impressive. Butch coached at FIU as well, took UM through probation, was said to be a bad game day coach, yet he is about .580 with vacated wins.

The PAC12 is a poor conference and USC was down to top it off. It was the great time to be there, yet he still found ways to lose to inferior opponents. This, and what is happening currently should be extremely concerning. As posted above, we pay for culture guys, bring in a culture guy, yet complain about the culture. Maybe, just maybe, the issue stems beyond the players.

He isn't can't bench the entire team. You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes but based on some tweets we have seen recently coaches are calling out entire units in meetings and during his press conference Mario basically said he doesn't have players willing to work hard. This is a big boy coaching staff who knows what it takes to compete at a very high level and aren't afraid to let their current players know they don't have what it takes. That can be very hard for these guys who have been told their whole life they will make millions in the NFL.

So we haven't been relevant for over 20 years, but the issue is a group of coaches that have been here for 10 months? That's crazy talk.

I love how we go out of our way to dismiss a 12-win Pac12 champion.

Lets say this is true.

Why haven't those players been benched? Or kicked from team? Why not start all young kids?

This season is lost.

Well, we have been, Richt got us to the championship game. A burned out coach go us to the games, imagine that. I did not want Richt, thought he should take time off, but the team caught fire, the ND game was amazing, and for a year, we believed. See my other post under the Romberg post for my feelings.

As said, many have noted Mario is not a good coach, these are not my words, they are the words of the guys people bow to on this board. I did not want Mario, thought he was overrated. I still hope he proves me wrong for the sake of the program, but so far, not good. See the DMoney post, it is not all on the players.

I did not say it is all on the coaches, we have figure heads that are supposed to be culture guys, yet the culture sucks. Mario complains about the effort, well, why are those guys still on the field? Losing with bad character guys is on Mario, losing with guys not read due to changes in culture is rebuilding.

Mario is in his 12th season coaching and you are going to hang your hat on a 12 win season? He has two double digit win seasons. Petersen for you next post has 10 double digit win seasons, and put a lot of guys in the league at Washington. He also has a 147-38 win loss record, so yeah, if I had a choice I would gamble on him.

If Mario wasn't a Miami guy no one would care about him. We would wonder why a 50% bad game day coach was brought in.

Why are guys still on the field? Because it's not Geico. We're stuck with the players we have. We can't just get new personnel.

Of course it never occurred to them. Every college player is working hard and trying to win. No one EVER quits trying.
