Rex Ryan

I know that term gets over used. I will go with what Alonzo himself said that a successful coach at Miami has got to have a big personality. In that regards he checks that box.
Did Dennis Erickson have a "big personality?"

Greg Schiano, Jim Harbaugh, and Nick Saban were college head coaches before going to the NFL. All three have spent comparatively little time in the NFL compared to college. Not sure how these names help your argument.

Pete Carroll would be by far the best example to actually lend credence to your argument.

Herm Edwards? I assume you're joking.

We will definitely have to disagree.
Ironically enough, Pete's flaws as an NFL coach actually made him a good college coach. He's cheesy as **** and that plays well with kids. That said, a lot of people were ****ed when he was hired, because he wasn't a top end hire. Just because an exception to a rule exists, doesn't mean the rule isn't applicable.

without doing any research, I’d take Rex in a second. Lots of posters seem to forget who our last 4 HCs were.

Football is in the Ryan family bloodline. Rex would develop players and Miami would likely thrive under Rex.

I want zero player input. idc who it is. I want a competent making a competent hire with zero input from guys who played for x or y
Happy for them to recommend people, would be delighted if they got involved with the programme more (appreciate that's the HC preventing that), but yeah they shouldn't have any say in the hiring process.

We would have an elite defense.

Would be greatly concerned about the O
Honestly I give zero ***** what side of the ball the HC specialises in. I don't want my HC calling plays, I want my HC to be the CEO and set the ******* tone.

If he's locked away in the film room all week studying the next opponent he's missing Knucklehead A not pulling his weight and influencing Knucklehead B to follow suit.

At the end of the day the whole 'player lead lockerroom doesn't work until you've brought in and developed multiple classes of winners. Guess what? We're multiple recruiting classes away from even thinking about that scenario - the HC has to be on top of it instead.

Did I say I wanted him as HC? Read the response. He said 0 track record. Even a GA is a college track record.

Even i did want him… a 2X nfl head coach isn’t good enough to coach at Miami? Find that hard to believe

Well, to be fair, Dennis rode the wave of success following JJ. Even Coker won a championship here and competed for another riding the huge wave built up by Butch.
So in a way you can argue that Howard, JJ and Butch, the 3 HC's who built championship teams had "big" or even intimidating personality.

Maybe you have to be somewhat of a tough "S.O.B" to succeed here as a HC. But when you have "it" in you, you can succeed in a big way because you have the main ingredient available to you...........abundance of raw talents.

Just wanted to throw that name in the hat as a possibility. Seemed to have some ex-player support and of course ties with Ed Reed. Allegedly interested in the job after Richt retired. Certainly has a big personality and would fit in with the culture. Of course changes would need to be made with AD as well for this to have any feasibility. Name hasn't really been brought up so was wondering what you guys thought about him?
I’m gonna take this opportunity to throw it back out..

I think what you're overlooking is that college football is totally different animal than NFL, and in many ways the college game is more complex than NFL for a HC, as he has to deal with many off-field issues including recruiting, player's academics, dealing with boosters and, unlike NFL, you have a finite number of full-time coaches allowed on staff....lots of seemingly "overqualified" NFL coaches have taken a stab at the game only to get humbled, and often unceremoniously fired...look at Al Groh with his Parcells/Bellichik connections, same with Dan Henning, Charlie Weiss, Monte Kiffin, Mike Sherman, John Bunting, Paul Hackett, Jim Mora,etc...of course there are exceptions like Jim Harbaugh and, to be fair, Herm Edwards is approaching his job with respect to the college game, hiring many college coaches...but history has not been kind to NFL coaches in the college game....I don't get the infatuation with a coach just because he coached on Sundays.
Bingo

El oh ******* el lol

Zero track record in college football, including recruiting and coaching tree.
The fact that some of our former players played for him and/or dig him should mean nothing.
In fact, our former players need to be kept as far away as possible during the hiring process.
Just get a qualified AD who has a football background or came from a strong college program and let him do his job.
He coached at Oklahoma. And a lot of Former players fall under the qualified candidate you’re talking about you swamp rat

Rex Ryan would be the best defense coach and defensive coordinator we’ve had in a long long time. He blows every d coordinator we’ve had last 20 years out of the water

Well he failed and was fired from his last HC job so he automatically fills a requirement for our administration.
