Rex Ryan

Just wanted to throw that name in the hat as a possibility. Seemed to have some ex-player support and of course ties with Ed Reed. Allegedly interested in the job after Richt retired. Certainly has a big personality and would fit in with the culture. Of course changes would need to be made with AD as well for this to have any feasibility. Name hasn't really been brought up so was wondering what you guys thought about him?
Fuck Off Jerry Ferrara GIF by Power

Rex has been out of coaching for 5 years.

I bet the only way he gives up that cushy ESPN job is if we hire his sons as assistant coaches. Both are like interns in the NFL right now.

If he was willing to defer offensive playcalling to a baller OC then I'd love it. Big personality, players love playing for him, and defensively one of the better minds of his time. Feels like with his personality he would be great recruiting but who knows. Plus he coached some decent Jets teams in his time and would satisfy the NFL background a lot of people are looking for. No idea if he'd be interested but I wouldn't hate the hire.

Zero track record in college football, including recruiting and coaching tree.
The fact that some of our former players played for him and/or dig him should mean nothing.
In fact, our former players need to be kept as far away as possible during the hiring process.
Just get a qualified AD who has a football background or came from a strong college program and let him do his job.
Where do you get this info from? Lol he spent 11 years in college.

This crap has to stop. A complete blowhard that hasn't been in college in DECADES, that was a disaster as a HC. Yep, let's hire that guy. Brilliant.

A rule of thumb when it comes to making these threads: BEFORE YOU HIT SEND, SAY YOUR CANDIDATE OUT LOUD. IF YOU CAN MANAGE TO NAME HIM WITHOUT LAUGHING, THEN MAYBE HES A LEGIT CANDIDATE. No one can view Rex as a legit candidate, he's the kind of "Win the press conference" candidate that fails to win.

A disaster of a HC? He led the Jets to 2 consecutive AFC championships with Mark Sanchez as QB and was in playoffs 3 years straight...defenses were **** good and just didn't have the QB to take him higher.
Anyone who questions him as a defensive mind might as well get off any forum...Ed Reed himself played for him and knows how great a D whiz that Rex is.

*Almost zero track record, and what little there is, is ancient history.

Under no circumstances should someone with this CV even cross one's mind to coach here.

"Fit in with the culture."

What on earth does that mean?

Are you OK? Rex Ryan? Have you really thought this thru? He’s a DC. That’s it. He’s an awful HC. He’s bizarro world. He’s borderline unpresentable.

Foot Fetish Ryan??? Now there is a guy that needs a coaching job that has no chance of getting one. He has no interest in college coaching and no one in the pros wants him.

Not exactly.

He never actually coached at Kansas State.

Two of his years were as a grad assistant.

At most, he spent 7 years in a position where he would have had recruiting duties, the last of which was 23 years ago. Is that the profile you want as a head coach of a P5 college program?
