Report: ACC to only play Conference games (Not confirmed by conference)

What a **** show. On the bright side, the further back they push the season in the direction of the NFL draft, the greater the chance that top draft prospects will sit out. I look forward to playing Clemson without Trevor Lawrence at QB in the ACC championship game.
And us without Rousseau?

It seems pretty likely that schedules will have to be adjusted. Some of the ACC schools are already scheduled to have conference games the first weekend in September. Others, like Miami, don't start until October. Maybe that can be adjusted by adding two games to everyone's schedule so the total played is 10. Or getting rid of the Thursday and Friday night games.

I just saw this post on another ACC school's 247 board He posted it this morning, before all the news and speculation about Conference only seasons came out. Some interesting points;

Former D1 coach here with a lot of ties on the administration side of things (I preface this with information is always changing and all options remain on the table).

The dead period will extend into March and possibly for the entire year.

Look for Olympic sports to be pushed until spring.

For MBB and WBB look for a much earlier start with a huge break at Christmas (like a split season).

The biggest problem for power 5 vs non P5 is testing. A school like Clemson isn’t going to play a school like Kent because Kent can’t afford to test.
It’s too expensive. Unless Clemson pays for Kent’s testing. It’s just super complicated. That’s why the conf model is a real option.

The P5 want zero part of spring football. None. But they will do spring football over no football.

Look for regional scheduling across the board. Mid majors are already in discussions about eliminating conference regular seasons , just playing teams in your geographical footprint (regardless of conference) and have a conference tournament at the end of the year.

And if there is no CFB this year college athletics is dead. There will be no recovery. (See Stanford).

To add to this, the person who posted the above also said that regional play only is under discussion by many schools. Games could only be played within driving distance, no flights. The ACC is not at this point yet but it is being discussed elsewhere.

There is a big meeting tomorrow to further discuss all of these scenarios. This poster said he would update the board.
Looks like it is going to be a long year - college sports may never be the same.

Been saying it forever, this colllege football arms race has a ton of programs running one step ahead of the bullet.

There’s no way a bunch of these programs make it without football money this year.

They’re leveraged up to their eyes.

  1. Move to Spring
  2. Start ‘Spring practice’ late January as training camp.
  3. All P5 conferences settle on an 8 or 9 conference game schedule. No CCG.
  4. All 5 conference champions make CFP. Add three at-large berths but only 1 per conference. ***** the $EC.
  5. Have a 2 week break at end of season
  6. Enjoy 8 team CFP. No other bowls.
