Reilly Gibbons commits to Miami!

gatuh insiders also don't seem that confident. I'm starting to think he's ours now. This is an amazing OL haul, but I still think we need another gigantic mauler at guard (Brandon Washington/Darling type) and we are set.

c'mon if you guys believe a hs kid who is 6'4 275 running a 4.65.

99.999999% sure it was a laser timed 40 at the UA combine and yes thats what he clocked.

Regardless, doesn't really matter. Just shows he is a good athlete.

I dont think Florida ever really pushed for him they want the last tackle in the class 6'6 +. Gibbons is a nice prospect and good get for Miami.

If we get Gibbons, this will easily be the best OL haul in the country IMO. I, too would like to see us pick up another interior OL though.

This will be an Alabama type OL in the coming years with the beasts we're bringing in.

Alex Gall hopes you haven't forgotten about him. He should redshirt this year and be an integral part of the line with the rest of the 2014 guys. Knighton and Odogwu should redshirt as well. That would be a solid 7 guys in 2014(if Gibbons committs) with all 4 years of eligibility left. I just don't see them taking 5 lineman this class when you also factor in returning guys for 2014, like Flowers, Briscoe, Isadora and Gadbois to name a few. Although, I don't think they turn away a stud if another one wants in later in the process.

Denver Kirkland says hello... lol but I agree with you completely.

Kirkland wasn't turned away. He chose not to commit to Miami and we moved on. Even after the initial report of his offer being pulled, Barrow sat down with his family, extending the offer again and he still wouldn't commit. Miami wasn't going to let him string them along so we moved on.

I just look at it as we are getting no one always so this way if they do come here I can be super excited to have them and if they decide elsewhere I can just say figures and move on. Its like finding $20 in your pants after washing them.

Gibbons is a prototypical Tackle, I highly, highly doubt they'll be moving him to guard. I mean, just look at his frame. Wide shoulders, tall and lean. That's a tackle frame, not a guard. Add in the fact that he has light feet and used to play TE, I just don't see how anybody sees him being a guard, but ****, I'm no coach.

FWIW, I like Gibbons more than Darling, and would be ecstatic if we got him to go along with Darling and McDermott.
Note: I liked this post but am not signing up for the Gibbons > Darling comment. I think Darling looks like he has a great upside. He committed early and people are someone taking him for granted at this point. I like both these kids as prospects.

I'm not trying to diss Darling at all, I think he's a very good player that I'm glad we got, because you can never have too many offensive lineman. I'm just of the opinion that Gibbons is more of a late bloomer and has a ton of potential.

you would say the same thing about darling if he was still waiting to make a decision, we kill dudes and say how another player is better until they commit

No, actually I wouldn't.

I call it like I see it. I'm not "killing" Darling, and you insinuating that I am shows that you're a pretty massive idiot.

I hope we stick Odogwu at OG and let him murder people while we pound the rock. Put Darling at the other OG and all of a suddenly we have a feared and dominating OL.

The thing I like about the way Golden and Kehoe are handling the offensive line is that, they are making sure guys can play multiple positions. When you have that flexibility to line guys up anywhere, they can just pound the football and rotate guys in to stay fresh. If your playing athletic fronts you can kick your right tackle down to guard and bring in your back up tackle so you have more mobility on the line for pass protection. If you have tackles that can play guard, guards that can play right tackle(not left, no guard should ever have to play left tackle.....BWash), and a strong, athletic center that can pull, it can be a long day for the defensive line. Offensive lines are slowing becoming more like d-lines in that you want to have a rotation of 8-9 guys that allow you to line up several different ways. Gone are the days of playing just 5 guys the whole game. Kehoe and Golden have slowly started stockpiling one of the deepest o-lines in the country. Pulling Gibbons in would be another huge coop.

This is not true. But the narrative seems to fit with what the local community wants to believe.

You don't line up 6'8 lean guys like Sonny at OG. Guys that are 6'7+ need to stay at OT.

Who was the last 6'8 Gaurd you saw? QB has to be able to see over these interior linemen. 6'6 is the tallest I've ever seen a guard at UM

Plus...guards go up against DTs. Very hard to get leverage on a DT, where the tallest guys are 6'5", if you are 6'8" like Odogwu.

IMO out of Darling, Gibbons (if we get him) and McDermott, the best one suited for OG is def Darling.

No doubt, but that's because the other two are basically prototypes. Not because Darling doesn't have the ability to play tackle as well. You know you've got one **** of an offensive line class, when you might have to seriously consider moving Darling off of Tackle.

I think Darling is a guard as well. He reaches a lot out at tackle. Not saying he isn't a great prospect. I think he has huge upside at guard.

Agreed. And, he's a better Guard prospect than Denver Kirkland.

Eh, I was with you on Kirkland, but I really like Darling's feet. I never really thought that Kirkland had the feet OR technique for tackle. I think with a few years, which he will almost certainly have behind the talent we have recruited along the offensive line, I think Darling could be an all-conference performer at RT and a future NFLer

This is why the staff wasn't high on him. I started to understand a bit more after watching him a bit at the Under Armor game. I've seen milk turn faster than Kirkland.
