Duke Johnson is and will always be a Miami legend, I’d put him right up there with the greats that played for the U

This actually was an issue at UM. I’m sure someone with more knowledge of the history of the university knows the details but as I remember it, there was a group of local citizens who wanted UM to drop the “Hurricanes” moniker after a particularly nasty storm hit Florida. I’m pretty sure it was a long *** time ago, way before the UM football program was a big deal.
I remember that one but I think there was similar situation years before that some people actually took seriously. The Roberts story was clickbait before clickbait existed.Yes that was right after hurricane Andrew if I’m not mistaken. And it was a local Miami Herald writer, Linda Roberts, that said we should change the name of the program.
I can’t find the link, because that was an article written right at the infancy of the Internet. One of our super sleuths such as @Tad Footeball can verify. I know he and I have talked about this at one time or another.

Probably should have read the rest of the posts on the discussion before you quoted me1992, Hurricane Andrew.

Don’t get mad at me because you didn’t bother reading. When I said “long *** time ago” and “before the UM program was a big deal” I wasn’t talking about 1992.Go play in Traffic..
You said it brothu. Kill two birds with one stone, get rid of Matt Ryan and upgrade to Deshaun.Duke is a legend but on a side note Atlanta better not fck this up and miss out on Deshaun Watson!! Fck you Arthur Blank!!
Spot on. It definitely was Ol' Linda and she actually wrote that masterpiece in the direct aftermath of Andrew.Yes that was right after hurricane Andrew if I’m not mistaken. And it was a local Miami Herald writer, Linda Roberts, that said we should change the name of the program.

The funny thing is that it looks like the Herald has completely scrubbed it. I've tried finding it and all you can really get is access to the plethora of angry letters to the editor about it.
People still reference it now though when explaining how Canes Football actually helped get them through that time so it'll always live on in infamy no matter what efforts devoid of journalistic integrity appear to have been taken to erase it.
That would be ohhhhh so cold!If Duke resigns with Fins I might try to get a half-half jersey made Canes/Fins
Been saying this since his Oklahoma days...Let’s keep it simple: Baker Mayfield is a little bltch.
They have a bunch already...he can goProgressive's going to need a new gimmick for their commercials asap.
That would be bad ***If Duke resigns with Fins I might try to get a half-half jersey made Canes/Fins
