That would make me happy. I dont believe we have anyone capable in the athletic department that can make that happen. But if by some miracle it did it would make me extremely happy.

I’m sure this name won’t rub everyone the right way but maybe makes the most sense - Chip Long. He’s 36 and was OC for Norvell at Memphis in 2016, but think I read that Norvell called plays that year. Went to Notre Dame and ran the offense exclusively himself, from what I understand. In 2017 had the 24th scoring offense, 2018 was 42nd and 2019 was 13th. He runs a spread offense, I imagine similar to what Norvell runs. He parted ways with ND last month after what sounds like some disagreements with Brian Kelly and is still on the market.

Getting a guy who has put together two top 25 offenses at a school like Notre dame is the kind of proven OC that would make sense to go after. But I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him get the Oregon OC job.

Agree.. From what I've read about Gleeson, I think he's the perfect man for the job.

Particularly liked this quote from an article about Gleeson's hiring at Ok. St., when Gleeson was just hired away from Princeton:

"Don’t take my word for it. Heed the words of college football’s resident analytics nerd, Bill Connelly:

Princeton leverages your assumptions against you. They know how the typical spread offense acts, they operate the basics well, and then they devastate you by going against tendency."


That is exactly what we need at OC. An offense that uses the spread, is not predictable like Richt and Enos were. An OC who, per other articles, is highly personable, loved by his players, and is both a great teacher/trainer and a great tactician.

Because a halfway decent OC could turn around our historically bad offense and Manny wouldn't be fired next season. It's a great opportunity for an up and coming OC.

Coaches have egos. And if you think with a talent advantage you could put up a ton of points with your system, what do you care if the coach is fired? You think the OC at Tulane cares if he’s only at Miami one year putting up 40 on everybody? If Diaz is fired he’d be unemployed for a day after that kind of season on offense.

You hire an OC that is at a stepping stone coordinator position. Those guys would gladly leave their current job.

Exactly. Orgeron was trashed by the fans and the local media, and said to be on the hot seat last year. All it took was one good OC hire and now the drunken, mumbling Cajun is loved by everyone in Louisiana.

These are the two I like...Gleeson really had OSU offense humming (I mean, they are always a good offense, and he was continuing that) up to about early November when they lost their QB and #1 WR (only 1 other WR is within 35 catches of him even now, and he's missed the last 4). I like that they were running the ball, we still need to be physical. Not all this one dimensional air raid bull ****...One dimensional pass is just as bad or even worse than not being able to pass.
