RB1

you can never be RB 1 until you can pick up the blitz - I don't know how good Mallory is at that but Fletcher might be the best in the country. not to mention he is a beast who wears defenses down as the game wears on. I think Fletcher will always be RB1 on this team.

I'd actually like to see Mallory start the game and get more first half snaps then use Fletcher to pound the rock OR protect the QB in the second half.

Fletcher is too good at pass prop.
Mallory is good, but with Fletcher you don't know if its pass/run. While Mallory, its more likley a run.
Mallory has a better pass blocking grade than Fletcher (9 less attempts) by the way. It’s not as telling as earlier in the season.

PFF obviously not end all be all, but just throwing it out there.
PFF had people convinced that Charles Brantley and Mekhi Hughes were good. They showed up to the big leagues and looked like walk-ons. Same people used PFF to bash Markel Bell.

PFF is good for snap counts. Its grades are mostly worthless.

Mallory is going to be a good pass blocker, though. I don’t think he’s a liability there and he’s getting better.

I will say that in crunch time last year (and so far this season) Fletcher has proven to be very good at protecting the football and not fumbling.

Mallory has a smaller sample of minutes and no playoff snaps yet but so far so good on that front as well.
In the back of my mind though I am a bit concerned that he might fumble. Most young players do so it is my default mind set.

That may be the main reason Fletcher keeps getting the rock as a priority in the future.

Usually 1-3 of these a game. I’ve already said my praises for Mark, but the vision pales in comparison to what Mallory is showing as a freshman.

Mark wants to bulldoze everyone. A blessing, and a curse. I’m also not saying Mark isn’t worthy of being RB1; just save his legs for the playoffs and incorporate an extra 1-2 drives for Mallory down the stretch of the regular season.

Both of these guys will be weapons come postseason.

Are we getting to a point where Mallory should be RB1? Could we even do that to Mark Fletcher in his final year after all he’s done for the program?
It’s a committee approach as you know. Don’t think there’s ever going to be an official RB1.

Do think he eat more and more as the season goes on though.

We will absolutely need Mark Fletcher’s leadership and talent to make it through the late season and playoff run.

It’s a loonnng season of wear and tear and he knows this - which is why he is not complaining that Mallory is getting good work.

Keep Mark fresh for the playoff run and groom Mallory for RB1 duties next season.

Mallory's vision is what sets him apart from our other RBs. That said, we don't have a RB1 - it's by committee.

Yeah, he's a freshmen.
It's a matter of time before he gets to Fletcher's level and I have confidence he will.

With our struggles in pass pro from an OL persp drive, having a tailback being exceptional at it and the calm experience is nice to have.

Couldn't believe my eyes when ppl were saying he should be relegated to RB3 during the szn last year smh **** is wild
It’s because he doesn’t break off 25 plus yard runs every touch and doesn’t run a 4.22. Not sure why people can’t be happy for both guys. Mallory has filled the void of Marty Brown very nicely. But Fletcher will be the main guy until the final game of the season.

"Man Lyle is that DUDE. At some point, we need to do what is going to eventually happen and replace Fletcher with him" - 2024

"Are you kidding me? Have you seen Pringle and the extra gear he has? Fletcher will never have that. Give Pringle the nod!" - 2025

"Mallory is the future. Its time to make that move and make him the starter." - 2026.

You guys have been trying to bench Fletcher for literally 3 years now. Then the 2025 CFP happened and all of you went silent or jumped back on his bandwagon. RELAX. Its a LONG season we are preparing for. If you dont think Fletcher is on "load management" for the CFP run..then your lost and need to post less.
The Lyle camp was on the right track, or at least the staff thought so, evidenced by starting him in the '25 opener against ND. He subsequently had an awful season, but beat out Fletcher for the opening day nod.

Pringle played due to injury, and was very productive down the stretch (regular season) in '25. Lets acknowledge that he was indeed instrumental in the run to the playoffs. This of course preceded Fletcher's incredible run through the playoffs.

Many reasons to continue to start Fletcher (production in big games, blocking, leadership), but let's not stick our heads in the sand and act like Mallory hasn't been the better pure runner this season. The yards per carry, even against P5, aren't close.

Not sure what’s been going on with Fletcher but he looks like he’s doing the Teaberry Shuffle in the backfield before he hits the hole. Not sure if he hurts but he’s not running anywhere near as hard as he was in the CFP last year.

Mallory on the other hand gets the ball and hits the hole and is also hard to bring down.

We will need both of them plus probably Lyle for the playoff run but it just seems there’s something wrong with Fletcher…really hope not.

Noticed CIS went away from citing PFF grades in the portal signee writeups last year.

No. If blocking weren’t a thing then yes. And I think sometimes blocking as a running back is overrated, however Fletcher is elite at this aspect of the game which changes our whole offense.

Fletch is rb1.
