rb rotation with lyle

Small sample size but can't remember one touch he's had this year (or going all the way back to the WF game last year) that justifies him being RB1 for ND, or receiving any carries over Fletcher or Brown. We might need to come to grips with Lyle just not being all that great.
Part of the problem is some of our fans prematurely declared him better than Martinez and Fletcher last year. They are doing the same thing this year.

Clearly, he wasn’t even close last year to being on Martinez or Fletcher’s level. We don’t really know this year if he would have been our best back due to his injury. It’s obviously slowed him down. He’s not better than Fletcher or Brown so far. It’s our own “Lyle for Heisman” fans that are creating these huge expectations for him. He can still be great, but I’m not the one thinking he’s the 2nd coming of Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson.

happy to have him back ... but it sorta messed up the vibe ... anybody else got that feeling? ... would have love to see more fletcher ... feeding three backs is gonna be a challenge

fletcher 12 for 40
brown 6 for 19
lyle 7 for 18
no one really ran well last game anyways. our pass game was cooking

didnt Mario tab him as the starter before he got hurt?

Nothing personal but I’ve been reading this for like 3 years now

Anyone ever consider we run tight splits and keep things between the tackles and give our OL help from the TEs because we actually aren’t a great run blocking OL?

Or do we think Mirabal and Mario are elite coaches that also don’t know the strengths and weaknesses of their OL and have Dawson consistently call plays that go against what we are good at?

Genuinely asking

It’s been explained they run this scheme because it limits negative runs and holding calls.

When you start getting outside the tackles you get more holding calls, actually happened in FSU game.

For me, he'd be RB3. I don't see the hype, didn't see the hype last year. To me, he's not as physical as Fletcher & Brown and he's not as twitchy as Pringle.

The running game has been very efficient but not explosive enough. Lyle is supposed to provide that. There is a role for him.
Right I think the part that makes the most sense is Fletcher/Brown wear them out with body shots and he hits the haymaker

Easier said than done so far with the schedule and Lyle being…. “Injured”

He’s one of our 2 fastest backs yes that’s true. But I think We gotta stop saying he’s our most gifted back. Fletcher has shown that imo
I think Brown is our best back. “Gifted” - i might go w Pringle.

I don’t know. I think he has the skills to be our #1 back when healthy. I just don’t think he’s light years better than Fletcher or Brown. He’s faster and more explosive for sure. He might develop into a better pass receiver out of the backfield. But as of RIGHT NOW, Lyle is not better than Fletcher or Brown.

I’m not writing him off yet, but he’s not an elite back and I haven’t seen enough yet to be convinced he will ever be. Im not saying he stinks. He’s good, but nowhere near elite. I’m rooting for him and I hope he proves me wrong

it would be helpful if we didnt run lyle up the middle of the centers *** though. get him outside and let him use his speed

I agree hes not better than the other 2. he does provide an element the other two dont provide though

And I also agree with those that said they are utilizing him wrong.

They want him to cut back into creases and go. I haven’t seen that kind of vision from him yet.

I just don’t expect him to move piles like fletcher and brown do.

Yeah I’m not putting any stock into the FSU game. He’s just getting back. FSU selling out to stop the run etc

Hopefully in these ACC contests we see him break a few in the third quarter to maybe put a game on ice

didnt Mario tab him as the starter before he got hurt?
yes but the CIS scouting department knows better based on 7 carries in his first game back, against a run D that was containing the run all night

let's also ignore the unanimous opinion that he was the guy out of camp by people who watched practice

this was truly his first game back from injury on the road in a rivalry game against a top 25 opponent…

Let’s see what the season brings and ***** about it if necessary in the offseason… let’s not forget he was the listed starter and took the first reps in the ND game. I don’t think it’s lost on Dawson and Mario how important he is to take this offense up another level

FSU loaded the box unlike last year where they played prevent.

They cannot figure out how to be balanced against us.

I expect all 3 backs to feast soon now that everyone has to worry about Beck (they were naive).

Shannon said it best. Basically we’re good enough to kill you with either the run or pass. FSU chose death by pass. Lesser teams, like what we have coming up will get killed with both. It’s all good, just enjoy the ride.
